It's not an atrocious out-loud thought. I can't personally see any harm in the attempt.
On the ignition cables- if #1 leading (IIRC) is the broken one, yeah, it might be the problem.

the one that was broken was #2 leading so maybe it wasnt that.
just got off the phone to my buddy and getting a hold of some ignition cables might be easier than i thought. hope so anyway.
we also talked about some other small mods i might do under the winter months ill wait until im sure till i reveal them.
all of the symptoms point to ignition. if the timing was super-off, would it still ignite the start-spray?

I'm not sure how off it would have to be. I know one odd thing about my car was that before I had set the timing, the car started up every single time (cold, hot, etc.). After I set the timing to spec, it started having flooding issues.
Couldn't hurt to have the CAS loose and while someone's cranking, you turn it to either advance/retard it just to test.
Not too helpful but just thought I'd share my experience with it.
[Edit] Keep your hoodie strings away from the pulleys if you do this. Seriously.

any advice is helpful i appreciate any input. most of the people that have build threads on here seem to have at least a bit of previous experience. this is my first build so im thankful for any help/ideas i can get!
i had already tried the thing with the cas, several times. didnt get any response..
thats whats making me think that theres something skewiff with the timing.
i got quite a vivid picture of what could happen with the hoodie strings. ill be tucking em in from now on
i ended up driving to the other side of town again to a place i thought might have ignition cables but they only stock them for american cars. i think its easier to get parts for american cars from the seventies here than it is to get parts for japanese cars from the 80s/90s..
found them last nightnon a website and ordered them. accels in yellow. "RACE CABLES" apparently..
theyre in the south of sweden so should take a couple days to get here than i can continue in my investigations. i have a buddy whos nifty with car electronics and hes gna come by toward the end of the week to see if he can see anything that seems wierd.
it would be really nice to get the engine started now. most of the other stuff i want to do the car involve me taking the wheels off and i dont want to do that until i have her running.
been looking at some other bits and bobs and noticed that the coilovers i wanted have gone down in price since i started this project and with the discount i get from them it should bee considerably cheaper. im also going to be changing the bushings but i couldnt find powerflex for the fc. superflex was attainable and from the looks of my bushings, even if they were made out of toilet paper i would get a better feel. they are proper tatty no wonder the car felt like a boat when i went round corners

You can test the sensors without the wires. Just put the ignition to 3 (on) and work your way through the pins for each sensor. Some will require the engine to be warmed up but for now, it'll be a good indicator for if you might have pinched/pulled some wires on connectors when you put the engine back in.

Not before i installed it but when it was in i cranked it for hand loads before i attempted to start it with the start motor. I only have experience of doing this with my rb26 but it felt like i received some Good resistance but i havent actually checked the compression with a meter.

Now its happened again. There seems to be a habit among online carparts sellers here that like to parts on their websites that they dont even have. Half of them have at least the decency to write on their website that the parts are "in stock at the manufacturer" but Most of them seem to just write that they have it, then once you have paid and have been waiting for two Days without any Sign of an order confirmation, they then reply saying that theyre ordering it from japan/usa. I coulda done that myself ffs. I cant prove that theyre doing it on purpose but it does seem, in the Words of gollum, "tricksy".
I remembered that i have the email of a Guy here thats one of the moderators on the Swedish forum. Im hoping that he has them or can at least Hook Me up with someone that has them here in Sweden. There just has to be...

Make your own damn cables, it's easy.
Surely some more "hot rod" oriented shops carry DIY cable kits for V-8s (you'd want the V-8 kit to make sure the cables were long enough).
The plug ends are already installed, you cut to length and install the coil ends yourself, a (crude) crimping jig is included.
There's nothing special about the RX cables, should be easy to do.

one of the guys at one of the first shops said that it depends what kind of tension the cables have. if i got a reading of 12v from the coils when i tried to start the engine, am i right in assuming that that is the tension i want on my cables then? i dont have a radio and dont intend on getting one anytime soon and even if i did i would be listening to my own music, not the radio.
i actually had bought these "diy" cables from my local autoparts store, but they didnt fit over my spark plugs and they didnt have any bigger ones. i went according to what i have read here on rx7club (thank god for rx7club by the way the swedish forums are as dead as a doornail) and bought the ngk´s. 2 bur9eq trailing and 2 bur7eq leading. it cant just be 13bs that use these kinds of spark plugs right?

thats what i did hence my previous post. i dont see why they dont write on theyre websites that they dont have it in stock. a delivery from the south of sweden should take max 3 days but after 3 days i get a mail saying that theyre ordering them from overseas. i just think its a bit dodgy..

i sorted out the cables i previously mentioned from msd and they worked just fine.
i have a pretty heavy cold right now so i felt like **** but i thought i'd go and put the cables on anyway. while me and joel were there he suggested we try to pull start it again.
and geuss what?
SHE ACTUALLY STARTED!!
a short discription of my reaction involved me spreadeagled on top of my 7 kissing it while enwreathed in white smoke. got a few funny looks but it was worth it
we had problems keeping the revs up and she died a couple times and then she started overheating (this is most likely cos its been weeping from the freezeplug so i have to bleed her again tmrw) the oil pressure gauge dropped a little too so we turned her off straight away. i didnt see any leaks and so we decided to put her in for the night and do a proper start tmrw with a new battery and topped up fluids with the added advantage of daylight. its already started getting dark roundabout 5pm here so daylights becoming a precious commodity.
feels great to get over that hurdle and i have gathered more energy and patience to confront whatever it is that decides to muck about with me this time
all in all im pleased as punch!
