Bobby's 87 FC build.
i got my fc about a month ago and since then ive been kind of lazy with it. not to mention i really have no idea what im doing being that this is my first rx7 build.
Got the engine out, time to rebuild.
So empty!
so now i have a few questions. after removing the 13 b, i found some things that i have no idea what they are..
are these even needed?
this looks like it could be important, but idk.
this one too.
i also found a bit of a setback upon removing the motor..
this is right where the frame rail meets the rad support on the drivers side, and she goes all the way through. any suggestions? i was thinking of either cutting it out and throwing some box tubing in there or just welding sheet metal over it after some wire wheeling and POR-15.
this is just surface. nice trail from the brake booster though.
the free wires go to the DTSS i believe, is it safe to say i can remove the wires completely?
so over the past weekend, i decided to go ahead and convert my s4 tail to s5
end result.
any input and criticism is welcome, any information helps.

The first photo is your charcoal canister. One hose goes to the spider web and the other should go to the fuel tank i think
The latest photo is the hose to the Air pump. It winds around under the right headlight. You can pull that crap out if you remove the airpump.

thanks man! wtf is a charcoal canister for? is it needed? just trying to get rid of all the useless stuff, or as much of it as possible.

It captures fuel fumes, oily residue from the crankcase and other nasty stuff you don't want sticking to your engine bay or smelling.
At this point don't bother removing anything until you fix that rust. That will be a whole project on its own. Id also check for floor rot because if you have rust where you see it, there is definitely floor rot to go with it.

Also ive been doing a lot of reading and ive come to the conclusion the NA rear is pretty much garbage, anyone know the limitations on it? i plan on staying NA for now with a street port on 3rd gen rotors and seals. would i need to use the 3rd gen e shaft?

The rear driveline on the NA is fine. You can put a Miata LSD in the pumkin if you so desire. (this is what I will be doing)
Another option is to find a NA LSD from an S4 GXL or whatever. You have to consult the stocky FAQS as to which model came with one and then you'll likely have to rebuilt it.
Don't bother changing rotors and Eshaft. Unless you plan on doing extensive engine tuning and or forced induction, your S4 compression ration is fine. Power will be made elsewhere, such as exhaust tuning, exhaust sleeve diffuser removal and a custom intake setup.
