FL 91 fc engine bay rebuild

So my car is slowly dieing and I want to do a rebuild but I never done something as big as this before. I can use some help in looking up options and references. My trade set is more in the electrical field (all I can to is maybe a tack weld, but I can make my own wiring harness) Im currently deployed and will be coming back in three months and want to start as soon as I get back. The budget is 15k for now with a +2k for hiccups. The Intent is to have a somewhat powerful engine with only what it needs (no vacuum lines unless absolutely needed, emissions, ETC)

So here is the list ill just keep editing this as parts are found and decided on. This will be basically my shopping list

-13B engine (new)
---mounts $125 ( FC3s Polyurethane Motor Mounts http://www.banzai-racing.com/store/1..._brackets.html )
---extended port
---seals
-Single turbo
---boost gauge
---mounting kit
---oil lines for turbo
-Oil pressure sensor
-Oil metering pump
-Fuel
---Injectors
---Pump
---Rail
---lines from pump to engine
-Eccentric shaft position sensor
-Ignition
---spark plugs
---wires
---(coil overs or ?)
-Air intake
---Air flow meter
---tubing
---filter
---Location of air intake /filter from exterior

If you see something that is missing from my list please let me know for this is all i can think of at the moment. And initial pictures will be taken when I get it out of storage

Well im in the army and deployed, i got 3 months left to go and im stationed in Oklahoma. ill be living back in Florida in almost a year from now. The radiator does seem iffy on the price, but im trying to look for part that require no body modification. I want to start and complete the project in two weeks and not perform a jury rig

Oil metering pump im gonna use off the old engine ( newly replaced when i bought the car)

soo all thats left is intake and the rest of the fuel.

Air filter $200 HKS Super Mega Flow Intake For RX7 '89-'91

Clutch $450 ACT Xtreme Rx7 Clutch Kit, 6 Puck Solid Hub

flywheel $250 ACT 'XACT' Streetlite Flywheel -RX7 Turbo

whats left to focus on is
-engine fuel (injectors and rail)
-ignition,
-oil cooler,
-ECU ( I know nothing about what to use so I will take what you guys suggest for the build)
-and a possible transmission oil cooler (do you guys think its necessary?)

Concerning fuel injectors ive seen on other build threads people using 500,750,1000cc injectors or even having a set for primary and another set for secondary does anyone have suggestions?

So in the end it looks like ill be hitting a rough 10k for all the engine parts listed which is great. Unfortunately i forgot that ill need to do a transmission (trans on my car is a non-turbo), drive shaft and diff so the threads title isnt what it is now, but im still excited to finish this list and even more to start this build when i get back to the states:/

Nicee man and yea Im in Tampa, gunna start my project soon as well (87 s4 FC) but as far as ECU, look into Megasquirt or Microtech lt10s as they seem to be great and user friendly (with a little knowledge on Standalones) also you can source for good prices online. How far are you from Tampa?

A lot of these choices really depend on what power you are looking to make and what you are trying to do with the car. I added my $0.02, tried to keep it vague and add some personal experience into my suggestions.

-13B engine (new)
*$6k seems a little high. If your car is a TII see if you can get it rebuilt. Other wise see if you can get a core from a local importer, there are tons in Orlando, and have it rebuilt by Kilo Racing (Orlando), Lowe Performance (Sarasota), Pettit (West Palm Beach), Carlos Lopez Racing (Miami), RotaryWerks (Miami). If it is not a TII you will need the Transmission, driveshaft, and rear end.

---mounts $125 ( FC3s Polyurethane Motor Mounts 13B-RE & 20B Engine Brackets )
Are you going with a 13B-RE? These are just the brackets so that a 13B-RE/20B (Cosmo 2 and 3 rotor motors) will fit in your car.

---extended port
---seals
This will be during the rebuild process

-Single turbo
You'll need supporting mods for this: manifold, wastegate, BOV, down pipe, exhaust, upgraded intercooler. V, Top, or Front Mount is your choice.

---boost gauge
You should probably get more gauges to monitor the vitals: Water Temp, Oil Temp, Oil Pressure, and a wideband 02 sensor/gauge

---oil lines for turbo
easily made or sourced online. Himni is in Sebring I believe and they sell oil lines for different turbo set ups

-Oil metering pump
You can technically delete this. Banzai sells a block off kit and you can then run premix. This is what I will be doing.

-Fuel
---Injectors
I suggest Injector Dynamics. Size depends on power or fuel you will be using.

---Pump
$400+ for a fuel pump? damn I would go with a Walbro 255 or similar, but depends on how much power and what fuel you will be using

---Rail
You don't need to buy a new rail. I would customize it to remove the pulsation dampener and the FPR and run AN fittings on the end. This is what I'm doing.

--FPR
You forgot to list this. I suggest Aeromotive A1000

---lines from pump to engine
stock hard lines, custom hard lines, or straight SS braided all the way. I suggest larger diameter custom hard lines

-Ignition
---spark plugs
I suggest NGK, if you want to get baller go for the NGK Race plugs 10.5 ($40ish per plug) or HKS (also $40ish per plug)
---wires
I've ran Racing Beat wires and they work very well. I bought RE-Amemiya wires for the 91 but have yet to run them.

---(coil overs or ?)
I have BCs on my 87 and D2s for my 91. I have not installed the D2s but they were very affordable....which is not always a great thing lol. If you have the budget for it go with a good brand. Cusco, JIC, etc. I'm sure you can search for some reviews on them here

-Air intake
---Air flow meter
With all these modifications you wont be using a stock computer so you might not even need an AFM. I have a Haltech PS1000 and it uses an internal MAP sensor.

---tubing
Intercooler piping discussed above

---filter
The HKS unit is a little pricey. If you're going to go custom piping for the intercooler you can have custom intake piping from the upgraded turbo and buy the HKS filter by itself online (ebay?) or any type of filter. I have a HKS I haven't used yet for my 91 and a K&N on my 87

---Location of air intake /filter from exterior
eh?

Oil Cooler
stock one should be fine, get SS braided lines from CorkSport, Mazdatrix, etc.

ECU
I have a Haltech Platinum Sport 1000, I've always been a fan of Haltech. Lots of local tuners for me. I would research this
for the right option for you.

Clutch and Flywheel
Good choice. Some things to think about are streetability.

Hopefully this helps. Good luck with everything.

You could buy 3 running FC's for $6k. WTF is with that engine price. I don't care that it's "new".

You could get a good running Turbo 2 drivetrain, s4 or s5, from JDM of Miami for like $1200 with tranny and ecu. Complete with turbo, harness, everything.

At least from my experience I would rather spend the money on a rebuild. Kilo in Orlando quoted me about $3500. You can find the rest of the parts you need on here.

Yeah, just giving an option. The guy that runs the place is very professional. No BS, small manageable company. It's right next to Tamiami airport. And everything literally comes right off the boat from a crate out of Japan. He usually has some oem engine parts brand new in the box like water pumps, oil pumps, stuff like that.

I know JDM of Miami very well. I actually shot a drift event for them years ago when they first started (under different management) and a few friends have bought motors from them.

JDM motors are always a gamble, doesn't matter where they come from.

my original engine is stock non turbo. The one im getting is with all the seals required to sustain a turbo. And it being from mazda trix is one of the better reputable places to get a engine from. Also I know kilo he helped me a few times with some car issues when i first bought it, BUT i live in oklahoma for the time being, and so what the engine is 6k i "can" buy 3 new fc's but those will be what i want. they will still have mileage on them, they will have their own set of issues, and they will need a rebuild sooner then me doing this project. My engine is sitting at 130k miles, im not gonna chance a rebuild on a bad core. Im going to start fresh on this.

so anyways

Aeromotive A1000 is this a fuel pump regulator, if it is i already listed one.
ecu im leaning more towars a microtech. Ill be tuning and adjusting it myself.

There are plenty of other affordable options. Someone on here is selling a turbo set up including a pretty complete fuel system for $1,500. I think that would be money well spent. Maybe you don't want a used turbo so at the very least find a decent used manifold and get a new decent turbo in the $700-$1000 price range depending on how big, brand, etc.

I only want a turbo to get a little more kick out of the engine. once i figure out how much room i can play with and run the lines ill decide to get a bigger one

Why not do it right the first time?

Buy a JDM Motor core to be rebuilt. That way you will have the motor with stock turbo and manifold already, tranny, ecu, and harness. Source the driveshaft and rear end if the same place doesn't have it.

I'm sure there is a local builder, check your regional forum. And for some reason there is not, it costs about $250-$300 to ship a motor. Yes it is a little bit of a head ache, but worth it in the end. Still cheaper than your build estimate.

So you're going stand alone? perfect, sell the ecu included with your purchase mentioned above and now you also have a harness to chop up. Tuning yourself? I don't know your knowledge on the matter, but tuning is not something I would do myself personally. Wiring I could potentially do myself, but tuning is soo crucial to reliability I would leave it to a professional.

Don't take shortcuts.
