89 GXL build from the NW
Hey everybody!
I want to post my car up in the build thread so I can keep my motivation with it. I always seem to lose focus and drift away from my builds ><
Anyways...
I just bought this sweet thang. $3995 at a local dealer with a 32k mile S5 13b swapped in. It's in AWESOME shape since it's a one owner car and that owner let the motor freeze up in HER garage lol
It's got all the options, most of which I could care less/don't want. IE AAS, but it's still cool nonetheless.
So while I was looking at it hoping to buy it I was coming up with a build in my head... which would include a 1jz. However since I have started actually connecting (yes connecting, I love my vehicles) with this car I'm LOVING the rotary. This particular car has a Racing Beat header, presilencer and dual exhaust, and the sound is incredible. The sound, the powerband and the unique-ness of the car is awesome and I couldn't be happier.
The only downsides are the lack of aftermarket support (since I come from the s13 crowd) and the AAS. I'm sure this forum will help me find my way around these problems though
My plans are a S5 TII, stockish body, and I wanna build the hell out of the suspension.
On to the pics...

A few cars I've had over the years...

Same exact exhaust as mine, just like you said it's awesome. [IMHO, RB makes all the best stuff for RX-7s, especially exhaust!]
The AAS can be removed fairly easily. I think you can just unbolt the actuators, and install new springs/shocks [RB/Tokico blues on my car] using the original strut top mount.
It looks awesome! Keep the body cherry stock like that!

Couple random notes for you: NA Rotaries should only be run on 87 octane [no benefit at all to premium], change your coolant religiously, and since it's an S5 NA - after the car's warmed up - wind that bad boy up to 8500RPM! B) [seriously, my S5 vert was shifted at 8500 whenever I was at WOT and that was a 188K engine and it's to this day running beautifully! If you don't regularly [at least once ever drive or two] hit redline, the engine will have lots of carbon build up..]
Also, since your in the Portland area, you should totally come down to our monthly Rotary POWER NorthWest meet! https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...highlight=rpnw We just ran a 1st generation RX-7 in the Chump Car race at PIR, so look forward to video and pictures from the event. We've also got lots of knowledge in the club and friends with parts for when you need them. It's this Wednesday, Nov. 2nd.
hehe.. You seem to understand. It really can not have any power plant other than a rotary. ^_-

And the interior is very nice. Shows some wear (cracks in the leather, little cracks here and there in the plastics)
No one can have my mudflaps
lol
Well folks...
believe it or not I still have this car! And now it's finally getting some parts and love thrown at it. She's been a faithful daily driver for the past 1 1/2 years through my ups and downs in life. Now I'm finally in a position where this build thread can actually be updated.
So beyond the MASSIVE pile of regular maintenance I've had to do in the last 9k miles (it's at 41-something now) I've started buying a few tidbits here and there...
PBM comp coilovers
PBM pivoting sub frame risers (not sure how I feel about these yet, I'm still gonna try em)
PBM solid diff mounts
NRG hub/wheel/quick release (I'm short but the RX7 is SMALL inside so I needed more space)
Exedy clutch
Rebuilt injectors
Polished FD3S alternator
Mazdatrix Pulley
And to feed my ricer tendencies... a bubble **** lol
In the next few weeks I'll be installing all this crap as well as a new test pipe since my car destroyed my aftermarket cat
Here's a few pics after I spent the day cleaning her

And... DAAAAAANG haha
