88 vert into s5 turbo swap

I'm looking to get some info as to how much exactly needs to be swapped and what I'm looking at price wise once its all done. I've read a few threads on this but haven't seen price figures. the more info I can get the better. Looking to learn.

You'll want (in a perfect world) a complete turbo drivetrain- engine, trans, driveshaft, diff and axles.
You'd also want the EM harness and ECU.
Need to upgrade the fuel pump.

Way too many variables to give any cost estimates.
Unless you find a known good engine ("known good"= seen/tested it yourself) figure in the cost of a full rebuild with the engine price.

Obviously, much also depends on the state of your current chassis.
The exhaust will need work (at the very least, a downpipe) and your cooling system should be in good shape.

When I had the '91 coupe, I figured the swap would run @$5000 if I was lucky, maybe $7k if not.

There are a multitude of swap threads here, some have spent far less, others far more.
The problem is, what Mr. X may have paid for a perfect used engine really has no bearing on what you'll pay...he got lucky, it was a one-off deal, he knows people.

All the above assumes you'll be doing at least some of the work yourself.

Let's say hypotheticly, I found a 91 turbo good engine but the body is rotted out so I get if for about 1k. After rebuild, will everything just bolt up or will there be fabrication needed?

If your vert is a n/a you would need the complete drivetrain from a turbo to swap (engine tranny driveshaft diff rear axels etc)

Here are some links I think will help you:
http://www.rotaryresurrection.com/2n...to_turbo2.html

http://www.rotaryresurrection.com/2n...in_differ.html

I found them helpful for gaining knowledge on this type of question.

Good luck!

With a J-SPec engine and some hard shopping... you can pull it off for under $3k... if you do all the work...

That includes the Engine, Tranny, Driveshaft, Diff, Axels, ECU, Sensors, and other misc things...

Come on... I've seen this done too many times... you have to shop the market...

The engine rebuild is what will set you back... and the major gamble is on that J-SPEC engine...
