Let's see if the sliding plates don't warp under heat.
It's simply amazing how you make it look so "easy" but i know there's so much work and brainstorming behind it!

Love how you're creating all these parts yourself, that e-shaft is a work of art. Must be nice to step back, look at the engine and think "Yeah...I built that", not just assembled...built .

Look forward to more updates .

Well, yeah when I step back and look at the engine it's like you said, but it's also kind of mixed with 'holy crap, I really hope it's actually going to work out'. I've been working on this engine for exactly 2 years now, so for me it's a pretty big deal if this thing will actually work or not. I'll find out though

Na-ah no way. The bracket is 3mm thick stainless steel, and stiff as hell. Not a hall sensor by the way, VR sensor.


Speaking of engine managment things, The ignitech ecu that's currently in the car will probably be removed in the near future. I'll ditch it and go with a megasquirt. Reason for this is that I'm currently running an MS2 in my road FD, and I'm really super happy with that ecu and in particular the tunerstudio software, so I want the same for my FC. Not sure about what type of Megasquirt I'm going to use. Maybe I'll go fancy with one of those MS3 Pro's that can do fully sequential injection and split leading / trailing timing, but I'm also kind of tempted to keep things simple and use something with 4 ignition channels and just run zero split. Already found a nice home for the ignitech that's currently in the FC, that ecu is originally designed and made to run a 4-cil engine with fully sequential staged injection and sequential ignition so it's perfect for that e30 I've been messing with ( Off topic e30 picture of awesome cheap-*** staged fuel injection setup )

IMO you will want the sequential injection and ignition split. the split is actually easy to setup, as you can just set everything to zero (or whatever) and then come back and tune it later.

lmao, i kind of wanted to do a 318 turbo, it seems like the perfect high boost, cheap street car setup. except those things are expensive here

20psi and you might break the 100rwhp barrier too!

yeah, well a good E30 chassis isn't cheap here either, most of them have been rotten away because the rainy weather and salty roads. Parts are cheap, I actually payed $50 for the entire engine!
I think I'm going to try and make it to 20psi boost, and see if everything stays together. I think it might actually make some power, those M10 engine like boost a lot! I wonder how fast the boosted E30 will be compared to the FD. I think it will be depressingly close

probably but the FD is far from a fast car by today's standards.

what does that say about a stock FC? it's the prius of today without the gas mileage.

but if you know what you are doing it's not like you have to take the skin off your hands everyday.

the car extremely cheaply built, not comfortable to drive long term, tin canny and mostly plastic which is very fragile and loosely fitted. i'm sure most FD owners can relate but they suffer through it to drive/own it.

the engine though is the best combination of parts that mazda ever put into an engine. the chassis was also the most streamlined design to date and seems timeless. but i have no problem staying right in my FC. it may be cheaper, have a slightly more dated look but it also has been the most well built 7 i have ever worked on. defeat the deficiencies in the engine and update the suspension and there is very minor difference in the way the 2 drive.

my car with 213k on it makes less noise than a 60k mile FD would and i could drive it across the country without leaving my ***/arms in the state i left from.

that sound from closing an FD door always makes me cringe a little, it just doesn't sound right.. and having to use your whole arm to shut it also doesn't feel right.

compared to the FC or Rx8 the FD is cramped, hot, rattles, it rides like a pickup truck, its scary to drive fast, AND kind of clunky*, so really it looks good, and its neat when you push the gas pedal...




*the FC feels great, but its a little numb, you can be spinning backwards into the bushes and it still feels fine. the Rx8 is really fluid and forgiving, put an average driver in the FD and then the Rx8 and time them and they will be faster in the 8.

Yes...that's why there are so many RX8's and FC's killing time attack right now....
If your FD rattles....it's user error. Replace your clips and bushings.
