2 FC'S within a week project extravaganza

Hows it going every one?

So this was completely random on my part but as the title says i did purchase 2 fc's within pretty much a week of each other and heres the story as to why.

fc #1
friend of mine has an arctic silver t2 that overboosted and grenaded and has been sitting in his driveway for awhile, in around march of this year some guy swings by his house and leaves a note in his mailbox saying hes got an rx7 for sale, leaves his number. so we contact him, and he sends some pics

88 n/a, s5 tails, new shocks all around, non oem silver paints not bad as you can see, few door dings, blue interior, wheels and tires put on recently, said it ran but won't idle , fuel pump is new, new plugs, new wires, been sitting awhile at this shop,

wants 900 bucks, i figured that was a fair price, had most of that money leftover in cash from a previous car sale that i was sitting on, not much out of my own pocket so i figured what the hell?

so we spend a good few hours getting the truck/trailer combo together and go pick it up locally and check it out, was only a few miles away.

so i get there, car looks a lil more beat than expected but its livable, interiors complete except for the stereo surround, driver door handle surround, and the ecu? (which the owner said its under the carpet like im a tard(whatever i can get one cheap)...i don't think he knew much about these cars lol, had a "badass" skull shift **** and some barbed wire vinyl pinstripe down the sides (wtf?) , batterys dead so i can't test anything, it was pretty much about to storm when we got there too, won't ever forget this quote from the po "not gonna lie, this things been sideways a few times) lol oh god, so i said hell it looks better than my car , worst comes to worst i can just swap my motor in there if this things blown up (v8, fc front subframe..dont hate me)

so we tow it to my garage and shove it in there and stare at it for awhile looking at things under the hood etc what you always do with a new car you get. little did i know i was about to get into some **** lol

i actually had gxl rims i put on my fb and put the t2 rims on this and s5 aero mirrors i picked up from a friend

so i put a spare battery i had laying around in it and see what happens, lights worked, passenger motor was not going down, wipers doing the typical fc only works on low bs, blower motor relay or something clicks like hell when you turn it on or off. sunroof kinda works but it needed help. didn't have an ecu but i still tried to see if the starter at least turned the motor for a second and it did.

so during this time the interior definitely needed a cleaning so i took the time to do that, and my friend with an fc warned me of electrical ground issues, especially the ecu ground so i had extra 8 gauge wire laying around so i added a ground from the negative battery cable to the body and i cleaned and upgraded the engine to chassis ground on the firewall, wasn't sure where the ecu ground was on this thing yet.

took the time to actually confirm the po's claims on new shocks/fuel pump etc, which sure enough it was true, also discovered a racing beat presilencer and racing beat oil cooler lines, stainless clutch line/ front brake lines, no name strut tower bar i didn't notice before and an aftermarket cone filter with what looked like a brand new afm.

also i noticed the cars oem color is actually arctic silver like my friends lol, i plan on getting it back to that color as well.

so anyways after contacting a few members i scored the few items i needed (headlight motor, wiper switch, and ecu)

plugged up the ecu and tried to see if anything happened and nope, did hear a strange grinding noise sometimes during the cranking, so i learned how to deflood the engine, sprayed some atf in the spark plug holes etc and after a few hours of messing with it it fired up! sure enough it wouldn't idle without me holding the gas but it seemed to be ok. sure enough after a few sessions of letting it run awhile it seemed to be able to run fine on its own. while it was running i made it a point to check to see if itd move under its own power back and forth in the garage and sure enough it seemed to be working ok.

fast forward a few days later after some more tinkering i was letting it run again and all of a sudden i heard a CRUNCH and the motor died instantly, try as i might it wouldn't even attempt to start again, i was like well ****** a...

fc#2
so around that same time is when i picked up those s5 mirrors from a guy who said he had an ecu too but said he just towed his 87 rx7 to the junkyard like right next to my house, said it ran but when it warmed up it died and he was tired of messing with it at this point. i was like no **** lol so i went and checked it out and it was definitely rough looking but the interior was complete

they wanted 800 for the car but i told em no way unless i heard it run cuz thats all i needed the car for. sure enough they couldnt get it to start but the guy swore up and down it ran before it was taken there, so i took a gamble and offered em 600, they towed to my garage for me since it was so close, and i went to work.

this time i was a little more careful at checking everything first, i changed the oil that smelled like gas lol, i made sure it had fresh gas, drained the old nasty coolant, it came with a new fuel filter, more new plugs/ wires, a racing beat header!, so i went ahead and swapped the pump from the 88 that i knew was good, cleaned up all the grounds which the PO sprayed the engine bay and covered some key grounds, and tried to start it, sure enough it wanted to run almost right away but it didn't stay running. after a few tries it fired up and with a little help it held its own idle,

but it didn't want to rev above like 2.5k. i noticed that the ecu wiring had been hacked into on this car and a few wires weren't connected, i said **** it and swapped the entire harness/ intake manifold with fresh gaskets, new fuel lines, sensors from the 88 and did an emissions delete with the egr/and the acv on the lower intake. also i made one good intake with the 6 port actuators, some were stuck/ bent rods, swapped thermostats cuz i never felt the 87 upper hose get hot.

i learned a LOT about these engines with that whole process. so after some finger crossing i tried to fire it up and it runs good so far! revs good, haven't actually driven it anywhere yet but since then i've swapped fenders/doors that ive picked up randomly, wheels that came with 88, spray bombed some things trying to get rid of the damn red primer( its oem sunrise red which i plan on making it when its all said and done.), swapped the exhaust which i had to repair when i did swap everything, what a bitch lol, still leaks at this point but i don't care. might take it on its maiden voyage this week sometime. also since i pretty much stripped the 88's motor im gonna take it out and put my v8 from my fb in there cuz my fb's sketchy at best to drive the way it is, too much custom hacking going on there lol, heres some more random pics where you can see both the 7's in the garage lol and the wheels and exhaust on the red car now (it didn't come with any from the header lol)

Alrighty been awhile since I updated, V8 fb spun a bearing so the shell will be for sale here shortly, pm me if interested, 87 was a tooth off on timing so I fixed that and I'm dailying that now, gonna take it to work and change the trans fluid and rear diff fluid. This is my first rotary car and I really enjoy it! Haven't been beating on it. And I lied I ended up spray bombing it black lol doesn't look bad

Thanks guys. This cars a lot of fun, needs a few leaks fixed but that shouldn't be bad. I do have a question though, fixed my wipers with the relay, but sometimes they dont even work at all and my radio 12v ign wire isn't getting any voltage so I've wired that wire to the rear wiper fuse, so I know when my wipers are gonna work or not cuz the radio works if they do. Sounds sketchy but I'm just not sure where to trace maybe a loose wire or something I dunno
