1991 Base Coupe Build

We purchased this vehicle in October 2022.

Year: 1991
Style: Coupe
Trim: Base
Country Assembled: Japan

The car was driven in the northern US at some point, and has the rust to prove it, but the nothing that can't be repaired. Someone replaced the doors, so I assume they were rusted out pretty bad. I purchased it from an auction and it was missing the hood and had Nissan wheels on it. I suspect that it may have had an aluminum hood and nice wheels that someone snatched while at the wrecker storage lot before it went to auction.

The vehicle doesn't have any collision damaged reported, but I guarantee the front passenger side was repaired. The repair was mediocre at best, and I think the drivers frame rail is lifted about a half inch. The shop did replace the subframe panels with new parts. The drivers quarter panel is compressed a little, so it was either rear-ended or someone backed into something.

Here is the run down on day zero...

Issues:
  • 13B NA (cranked but wouldn't idle)
  • Extensive rust in drivers floor pan
  • Spare tire well rusted through at bottom
  • Missing hood
  • Various wiring splices and frayed wires
  • Missing trunk trim pieces
  • Front windshield cracked
  • Dash and associated trim very brittle, broken, or missing
  • Drivers seat belt retractor not working
  • Air / Smog pump broken
  • Air conditioning compressor locked (expected)
  • Carpet is trashed
  • Missing or mangled front bumper mounting brackets
Extras:
  • Poorly installed KBD body kit, but in good condition
  • New adjustable rear struts
  • A pair of good used replacement lower control arms
  • Dash is crack free
  • Seats have one small crack in the vinyl
Here is a list of the work we have done or intend to do
Engine:
  • Complete overhaul to include apex seals, and bearings (complete)
  • Oversized tension bolts (complete)
  • Street ported (mild) (complete)
  • Replace all hoses (complete)
  • Replace air / smog pump (complete)
Transmission:
  • New clutch and pressure plate (complete)
  • New pilot bearing (complete)
  • Replace inner and outer shifter boot
Body:
  • Straighten all panels (filler & 2K primer)
  • Remove and reinstall rear glass
  • Remove and replace front glass
  • Install aftermarket body front / rear bumper covers, and side skirts
Interior:
  • Remove all interior components (complete)
  • Replace carpet
  • Replace headliner
I will update this as I determine what else needs to be done
