OH 1987 Sport.....Resurrection

Hey everyone. I've been wanting to make my own build thread for a while now, so now that I've moved to a place w a garage that i can work with i figured why not.

Well I've got an 87 sport that is in ok condition that i purchased back this past summer, according to the guy i purchased it off of he said it has been sitting since 98 and i kinda believe it. So far since i bought it this summer i have already dropped the gas tank and got the old nasty 14 yr old gas and gunk out of the tank, put a new fuel pump and fuel filter, all new belts, and pulled the airbox lid to find a mouse nest that i cleaned out, then i put some good gas in it and got it running and thats about it so far.....soo now ive got some issues ive gotta handle.

1.Fix the brakes that are dragging bad(i had to winch the car into my garage)
2.Fix the clutch system(both master and slave are rusted solid)
3.Fix the low coolant warning buzzer that goes off non-stop even tho its full of coolant

thats all of my issues that i know of mechanically as of now.

My main goal with this car as of now is getting it road worthy but at the same time im putting all poly bushings and some new struts and lowering springs, because i cant afford the good stuff yet lol.

well here are a few pics of what im working with

Ya its pretty clean I've got some rust on the rockers to deal with where the aero pieces bolt to in front of the rear wheel well but other than that it's fairly solid....MaczPayne I've got another sport w a sunroof as well it's not nearly as nice as this one and it is also an 86

2 thumbs up for a sport!!!

2 of my 3 have sun roofs, I think the GTUs was the only "sport" that they ALL had no sun roofs. Have fun!

I thought there was a clearance issue with the Tien springs?

Either way... good luck on the build.

Those dodge oem wheels should look good if you can fit them

^^^^^yep you've got it, they're off of a 2008 Charger SE, 17"x 7", and ill be running a 205/40-17...for now ill see how it looks and i'll go from there...im not sure of the back spacing but they are offset more than the factory wheels so ill see how they look, worse comes to worse ill get some extended lugs and some spacers, these wheels will also be painted black.

Sports for the win man, build looks to be going in the right direction, what're your long-term plans for it?

Thanks for the compliments, i know its not a big flashy build just subtle refreshing and upgrading for now...but for the most part my main plans for it are to fix the rust and repaint it, you cant tell in pictures but its like three different colors of silver. It just sat for a long time and did a toll to the underside and rockers of this thing. But for now I just plan to get it roadworthy and just enjoy it for the summer and then maybe next winter ill pull it all apart and fix the rust and do the build the way I really want to with all new suspension and coilovers and all the goods, possibly even a 6 port turbo or a turbo swap...thats the plans lol but well see if it pans out that way.

Well here are a few more updates, i painted the wheels today, and mocked one up for a little preview. And for whoever asked if there were going to be clearance issues with the teins, i dont think so with this wheel and tire combo, but if there were less back spacing and a wider wheel i do believe there would be, i havent tried it with the tires, but im pretty sure im in the clear. I cant believe that these wheels poke out the way they do, so hopefully they will sit good once the car is on the ground, im thinking im going to have a little bit more wheel gap than i would like with this spring combo and profile of tire, worse comes to worse ill run a little taller profile tire on here, but ive gotta work with what i have for now.

Alright i have a couple updates, not that anyone cares, but i do lol.
i got the tires mounted and blanced on the wheels today. They dont look too bad for a guess on what they would look like, and i also got my exhaust welded up and ready to go now all i have to do is make a hanger system for it.

and the exhaust its got a nice little slant to it, i would have liked it to stick out about 3/4 of an inch more, but this will work i guess.

I don't think you'll have too bad of wheel gap once you set it down. I lowered mine on Tanabe springs with the stock wheels/tires. The photo is a little misleading due to shadows, but the tops of the tires are definitely tucked in the fender. You may even need to pull your fenders a little.

(decided to link the photo, not post it... don't want to slather pics of my car all up in your build thread )
