1986 Tornado Silver Build

Hey everyone.

A brief history

I used to frequent this forum a lot back in the day and sometimes when I search I find myself in a lot of threads, which I do apologize my immaturity at the time.

Most of the time, I owned a 1988 SE:

I kept it mostly to bolt ons and a few little things, but never went big.

I then did the unthinkable:

LS1-T56 with a large cam made 402HP on stock heads. I loved each minute of it, until of all things, I spun a bearing.

New Beginnings

I ended selling the car in 2008 and then had a void left. Bought myself a Trans Am, Vortech charged Mustang, two first generation RX7s, then my father found this for me:

55,000 original miles. Original owner. Old lady owned (verified). And 100% stock.

I wanted something was not beat to death before I got it, wired like ****, or messed with so I could keep the parts of the car I loved, before doing the racecarish build that I did with my SE (which was in the same condition when I started).

Goals

My goal for this car is to work with what made the RX-7 a great car.

* Great driving car
* Great handling
* Rotary Motor (I've had both, so no need to get picky.)
* Outside asthetics
* Creature comforts

There are many more, but to me, it's a big part of why the RX-7 was such a great car and made me fall in love with it to begin with.

Since a great starting point in the fact that everything works and is a great running car, I feel like I can concentrate on simple upgrades.

Other goals are do not make the car too loud, smelly, mess up handling, or do any (in opinion) tasteless modifications, or really anything I'd regret in the upcoming months.

I will try to document the simple upgrades, and everything that I do in this build.

Thanks!

New wheels/tires

Update!

Since my build is to keep with the "idea" of the RX7, I went ahead and purchased BBS vert wheels, and at 11#'s each, they are nice and light. I also thought they where the wheel that all NA's should of came with.

I purchased the wheels, center caps, and tool from Kevin Landers at Rotary Resurrection for a great price. He provided me with multiple photos of different sets and let me take my pick. Very good guy all around with great prices on parts and rebuilds.

I purchased: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....tnum=05HR5H457

I was looking for a good inexpensive tire. I used to run the K104's on my old SE and for the power levels and the kind of handling I do, I knew they;d be just fine. Being very affordable also helps.

Also! Due to advice in a thread by: j9fd3s, I went with 205/50/15 tires. I did see an improvement in acceleration, I haven't checked the gearing yet, but j9fd3s made a comment that it was similar to going to 4.44 or so gears. Easy upgrade for anyone looks to see a little more quickness out of their N/A.

Purchased and installed KYB and Racing Beat springs, I'd take photos but it ended up raining then snowing today.

Por que!

Hopefully having a 4.88 rear with a torsen sent to my place within the next week or so.

Next: Racing Beat Header and Presilencer to go with my Racing Beat catback. Then it should be good for this summer.
