Sh00bs 85 budget rat

hey guys. so i bought this car about 3 years ago and made a profile on here. this will be my first "build" thread though and we're starting a little late lol
when i got it, she was 100% stock GS trim with 104k miles! $1200, couldnt beat that.

after enjoying the car for a little i put some ground control front coilovers on it, tokico blues all around, rear cut springs, a header, emissions delete and threw a 44mikuni on it.
swapped the mikuni for a 45weber and was enjoying life

fast forward a year, the gf wanted to get into old rx's so i found a sweet '79 LE on CL with a 13b in it for $450 !!! SCORE
so i got it, got it running, however the front stat was cracked so it was only running off the rear rotor. being the nice bf i gave her my '85 engine and took her 13b (it was a gslse engine with 12a irons and a 48 weber sidedraft

so i pulled it apart, put s5 na rotors in it, got it bridgeported by mike vargas, new 12a irons (well, new used), the se housings were usable and rebuilt it with adkins rebuild kit and RA super seals
picked up a new 48ida weber and full dual rb exhaust
gave the gf my kamei air dam and i picked up another one and some skirts. then some rear louvers too

finially got my engine rebuilt and together and in. fired up for the first time yesterday going off 5* after TDC and 1 tooth retarded sounds great and LOUD lol
next is gonna be some exhuast work and rear mustang coilovers

oh also got a tri core alum radiator off ebay that caught my jack when it slipped off the center beam... suprisingly it didnt puncture! idk how... dent in the bottom and a curve to the top side lol

here are a few pics (and the gf's '79 LE)

i hope to keep adding more as it progresses

That's a lot of work, good job! I like the workspace you have too. And that custom exhaust looks like it's crawling out from under the car to attack something. I've not seen anything like that before. I admire people's creativity.

did an exhuast thing... thoughts? let the hate flow lol

went up into the hatch where it would go over the rear, just kinda made it kept going up...
why? causeee i wanted to be different and i like the look of the tips between the lights
hot? heat wrapped, not really.
loud? obviously a little bit. not terrible though.
exhuast leak? actually no and it's removable with 4 bolts

Wait have you rebuilt this since the recent issues you were having before DGRR? I thought i heard the unfortunate news this engine went kaput?

Either way I hope shes doing well now!

been a while since ive posted

long story short..... no oil pressure gauge plus a slit oil line = no bueno engine

put the pport in it. full louvers, flares, custom rear diffuser

below is a pic before the flares and 1 terrible pic since they've been mounted
pport runs great, just a small oil leak from the fmoc...
used hockey pucks for engine mounts lol we'll see how long they hold

getting her ready for ECRC on the 22nd, gonna trailer it there and hopefully not break it that day haha

Also my '79 LE is for sale! looking for 3k

Lol sounds like a good story, are you running flares or not? and I would love to see how you routed the exhuast through the rear. Do you have the stock gas tank?

after a few months with the pport in my street car... im tired of it. pretty sure i found a buyer
picked up a totaled s2k with a good engine in it from a friend. call me the names you wish, but im putting that in my 7, get it running and on the road this year and then aim to turbo next winter. did some research and believe it or not i couldnt find anyone else whose put an f20 in a sa/fb... so might as well go pic heavy and list issue's i run into. should be fun, and by fun i mean lots of beer to drink to keep me from getting angry through the swap

Looks great. I don't personally like the exposed oil cooler, because it looks too vulnerable, but the engine swap, flares and stance are all checking my boxes. Keep going - the only thing these little beasts lack from the factory is power. F20 is a nice choice. Did you adapt it to the original 5 speed?

no sir, F20 6speed ! the trans lines up oddly super well... not complaining. going single piece drive shaft, custom. should be around $300 ish, im dreading buying the ecu
Cool things with these engines are the power steering pumps are electronic! so like myself (and most fb's) without a ps rack, there's nothing to bypass!

i was going to do a fuel cell, but then i remembered gslse's came with efi 13b's! if our tanks are the same - which i think they are, i "should" be able to get an upgraded pump, like a walboro 255... which should be plenty for the f20! woo
will be confirming the tank similarity this week and if i can get a much stronger pump for mine. especially if it's just an inline rather then in tank
