Series 5 13B-T swap in 84 RX-7
So I'm finally starting my own build thread after I found a complete S5 Swap for $1500 in my city, after a month I he offered it to me for $800 and is holding it for me.
It has a hybrid T04b turbo. I am on a super tight budged so I will have to be ingenious in my methods, all quality parts will be used for a rebuild. Though the swap is claimed to have been running I want no surprises.

I will get some pictures once I get the engine in my drive way and fix my computer. First thing will be disassembly and ispection of course. The either a rebuild kit.
If needed Mazda has the last 4 (from Mazda in the US) 3dr gen rotors and some new housings.
Nevertheless I hope the engine is in good shape
Here are some pictures.

It could be an S4, I really couldn't tell the difference to be honest. I'm not use to the turbo 13b's
Never the less a good price for a full swap, considering it's local.
@BoriquaGuerrero I was planing on going with a blow through 12a, but I didn't know where to begin.
I might consider selling the 12a in my car but might keep it as a backup. since i just rebuilt the carb and runs great.

I will be doing a TII swap hopefully as well, and will be keeping my complete 12a with the 12a from my parts car for safety.

Are you planning on running the stock TII TMIC or going with a FMIC in front of the radiator? Just curious, been thinking about it for my swap lately.

Exactly. I'll be using the housings on the parts car, as well as the rotors, for some artsy-fartsy decoration projects as I'm sure the housings and rotors are no good (236k mi on the odometer, could be original engine too).

At this point all I know is that my 12a front cover on the 13b for it to drop in. The 12a tranny will mate with the 13bt. I will probably do that at first to see how things run before building a custom cross member for the second gen transmission.
To be honest I don't think it will be hard to drop in the engine and transmission and if needed there is a guy close by selling a nice GSL-SE whole or for parts. If i only had the money though I would take the whole dam thing.

The 12a trans will bolt up to the 13bt, make sure to use the 13bt flywheel and counterweight (obviously) and it isn't too bad of an idea to see how she works before dropping in the TII trans. I'd just make sure to do it sooner rather than later as the 13bt will rip through the 12a trans in no time.
What is the trim level of your car, S, GS, GSL, or GSL-SE? If it is an SE it will be a much easier swap, the other 3 will be more difficult. You'd want a LSD rear end only found in GSL and -SE cars, as well as a baffled tank for fuel slosh, among many other options.
I'm doing my swap in my GS and it will be a pain to do some of the many things I want to do but she was my first car and I want her to give my future FD a run for its money

Yeah I'm using the FC ECU. I've heard it's plug n play on the right side harness then you just add to about ten wires to power everything else. In a perfect world I would run a stand alone. Lol

The standalone system is truly ideal, it can be tuned specifically for your vehicle and would be the best if you do upgrades in the future (bigger turbo, injector mods, etc.) but they do cost a pretty penny - within $1,000 and up is pretty much base. I'm looking into a Haltech E6k for about $1,000 with a wiring harness and methanol pump but unsure if I want to drop another grand or not for something I'll have to learn to use..

When I get home I'll post a link for you guys on another swap with the wiring diagram. It's pretty easy, only a few wires need to be rerun or added. I'm going to do an entire 13bt wiring harness swap as well though, so mine will be plug and play entirely

Now in a related topic. I can't decide which parts to use for my rebuild. Should I go with atkins, Mazda, pineapple racing or rotary aviation? I will start tear down and cleaning soon and order a kit once my tax refund comes in.

Due to budgeting I will keep the stock ECU for now, but will upgrade to a standalone

The name on the package of rebuild parts is completely up to the buyer and builder (owner/operator if you will do the work yourself) and its up to you to research the brands and their options and followings to determine what you want to accomplish. Just do some research on each, compare prices for what you need, and go from there.

I will be going this route I believe as well. I'll be putting the $1,000+ somewhere else in my build instead - it runs on the stock ECU just fine, right?

Here is a quote from the deleted post. "S4 Rotary 13b with a hybrid T04b turbo. The engine was running when it was pulled and rotates just fine. But I would of course recommend a go over and replace any old seals while the engine is out. The turbo is the stock turbine side, with a T04b compressor wheel (not sure on the exact inducer/exducer) and has a Garrett .70 compressor housing. This setup will make an easy 280-310hp with the right tune and very quick spool."
Does any of this sound within reason?
Well before I start spending mu juicy tax refund before I have it, I will start with a tear down, close inspection and spec everything. As I said I am on a strict budget because I pay for my mother and sisters expenses but nothing will be added that's not reliable. If I have to wait for money, so be it.

Quick update: I just purchased a 85 GSL-SE for a bitching deal $500. It looks good in the pictures and the PO (previous owner) claims in only needs coolant seal which I can care less since I can either use the GSL-SE for the swap or my GS, it all depends and which is in better shape. Never the less if any one is interested in parts you feel free to PM me.

I have hopes that the stock ECU will work sufficiently.

The post sounds within reason, and it makes sense. A tear down and inspection is probably recommended and Atkins has a kit for a tear down with all the gaskets and seals and such for $500. Probably something to consider to make sure you are safe.

The stock ECU will work just fine, it's been done a few times and worked well for the guys who accomplished it.

Atkins it is. I can't wait for the swap to be done I don't plan on having every thing done quick but the tax refund is going to help a ton.
That is a really sick deal! If the -SE has a title and little to no rust it is a much easier swap. There are many things that can swap over easier and make it a little bit cheaper. But if there are holes in the gas tank, rust through the rails, and other such problems it's probably better to stay with the GS. I'll be doing the swap in my GS soon hopefully.
