Wow that gold looks really good, is that the correct factory shade?

 

It looks cool even without the gloss...matte gold and black...imagine!

 

Thanks, wish I could say I sprayed it myself! Sadly my airbrush is only good for 1/24th scale And yep, the color is factory matched, looks better than new! If only you could see the pearl


Haha, think that's a bit too much matte for my taste.



By the way, I'm missing that little 4-inch part of the driver's side rubber door protector that is really thin and goes behind the fender when you open the door. If you've got one extra, PM me! I've got the rest of the big door strip, just need that little part. If it's not in perfect shape, that's okay, I'm still interested.

Well, she's out of the shop! Only a few things left to do: Need a pair of RX7 emblems, door window seals, and the little section of side strip that fits under the fender when you open the door. Every other part we were able to refurbish and save.

I'll get some detail pics soon, but for now here she is







I have to say I'm really pleased with how it's turned out.

I know a lot of people are thinking, "He went to the trouble of completely repainting the car, why did he keep it gold???" Well, it means I didn't have to paint the door jams, engine bay, etc. It's also more original, which I like. Then there's the fact that I went to Purdue. And, finally, over the years the color simply grew on me. I think the black and gold looks good.

Only thing I'm not sure about is whether I'll keep the spoiler. I've never *really* been a fan of the way the 1st gen slopes off in the back, and the spoiler definitely helps with that. On the other hand, it's not exactly the most classy addition, and it's pretty clear the car wasn't really designed with it in mind. I dunno. What do you guys think?

Normally I'm not a fan of the spoiler either, but as you've said the black and gold do go well together and I like the black spoiler in this case.it helps break up the gold some

Thanks guys! Here are some before and after shots to round it out.

 

 

The car will be hanging out in the garage for the next 90 days while the paint hardens. So, moving on, here's the jobs yet to be done:

-Overhaul the interior. Gonna take some work, that.
-Rebuild the carb with more appropriate jets
-Rebuild/replace rear end (ring and pinion are fubar)
-Do something about those wheels
-Sort the numerous electrical gremlins
-Replace suspension components
-General engine bay overhaul (braided lines and hoses, get accessories working, paint and rust protect parts, remove wasp nests, etc.)

So, basically, the only things that are 100% on this car are the engine, brakes, exhaust and paint. Got a long, long way to go.
