Rebuild thread × breaks × clutch × and other fun stuff.

Ok well it looks luke the first really cold day took its toll on somethings and i now need to rebuild the motor. When i finally got my rex all thawed out and under some cover i fired her up and she lit up real nice idled really well.

Turns out after i had fired up the engine and let it get to operating tempeture i noticed alot of blue smoke and steam coming from my oil spout i shut the car down and began looking at things pulled my dipstick out and my oil was a nice light mocha color (You know like you get when your at starbucks).

So it seems my plans for a turbo set up is held off till I rebuild and know its running right. The first cold day was -7 with 20mph wind chills and froze my system before i had prepped it for below freezing conditions. Im hoping the the keg is not cracked in anyway. Even when she was idling she ran nice and smooth no issues until normal running temps.

I will post oil picturs later on when i get off work. Boy will i be working alot more hours this winter.

Things on my List to do during the cold season.

1. Pull Motor and tear down for Rebuild.

2. Replace Brake Booster, Master, and Slave Cylinders

3. Adjust Clutch and Replace Clutch with a Fresh kit possibly Change Flywheel.

4. Paint car Flat Black Fix up the Engine bay and Get it looking Fresh.

5. Work tons of hours at work to fund this project and possibly add some more goodies later on (Play less Video games and don't eat out so much).

Since my old thread had a pictures of my car and some of the engine bay I will repost them here on this thread.

I've only done a few Cosmetic Details on the outside like the Louvers being Repainted Flat black and Coated with Glossy Black that combo worked out pretty well. Painted my hood Flat black to get rid of the faded clear coat sanded down by hand and repainted with a rattle can fully dried turned out really great and nice and even. I plan on hand sanding the entire car myself and fixing the one dent in the rear driver side that has started to rust and was covered up by a weird dragon sticker some year ago before I owned it.

I did fix alot of the Interior lights and I even got the Ringers working for the door and when im low on coolant or oil. need to work on getting the dash light working I think it has burnt out lights but it might just be in need of some rework to get the speedometer working right again as well.

gonna try to fix the Seats myself (gotta put those Home Economics skills into practice haha). and try to Restore my dash it only has one crack in it and I think I can fix it it didn't start peeling off to the side or anything but it looks in nice enough shape I can probably patch it up and repaint to look original and not half *** worked in.

I really hope I can do this I won't give this car up like I did my first Mazda I have grown very attached to this first gen and its characteristics not that I didn't love my 2nd gen but at that time I didn't know enough and feared I would just break it so I sold it and waited far to long for another one this time I'am ready and I will take this on for a nice decent looking and awesome running car.

So this is what my motor oil is lookin like right now makes me sad. Sitting in my shop with hopes for a good warm firing and that the problem would magicly go away by the Rotary Angels.

But dont worry if i work a good 144 hours in the next 2 weeks i can get the rebuild kit purchased and get the motor prepped for removal. I hope i can last that long for the next 12 days because thats gonna be the most hours ive worked in quite sometime.

Only thing i do not own is an engine stand yet and a buddy is gonna let me use his cherry picker for the motor.

its probably something else, as the water has to leak outside the engine and then back into the engine, which is hard.

it is more likely to be a bad freeze plug, or cracked iron

I hear what your saying when i get the time and equipment to get it pulled out and torn apart that will be one of the first things i will looks for any other things i should look for? I would like to figure everything out before i get to far ahead of myself and get screwed up.

I can get another motor but its houseing and irons are questionable since its sat for quite sometime but still looks in decent shape.

So just a quick text Update.

I think the guy is flaking out on me for the motor cause he is not answering my call or text message so I'm just gonna assume he is just not interested in selling it to me.

so my removal process is going but very slowly as I can get time to do it. I have most of the front portion of the motor taken care of i'm taking the Nikki off one piece at a time so I can see the process and what not.

I will post up pictures later on tomorrow or something because my phone died before I could get any. so I will see what I can do i'm gonna try to work late this sunday so I can make sure my next paycheck is kinda big so I can get my carb rebuild kit and a few other things.

That sucks that the lead on the new motor is fading away and the seller is ignoring you. Maybe it'll be easier if you tear down the motor you have and figure out what parts you need to replace and source them individually.

Its alright but I was looking forward to just getting her road worthy in a way so I wouldnt have to walk in the cold.

I also still would have rebuilt the stock motor and gotten it streetported and be ready to re swap again by spring time but I guess now i can just focus on this one and keep learning new things.

I will be working late today but I will update again with some pictures of my progress yesterday that I had gotten done at a moderate pace.

Just a couple of pictures I did remove all the hoses and vaccum lines sometime after the engine picture.

But that crack is from the water pump housing good thing I bought another one off of a parts car so I at least I know where one problem lies and that i can at least replace it sooner then later with a new water pump.

When I finish working off the Carb I will only be one step from taking the motor out and cleaning up the engine bay all nice and shiny.

I was at that point and it was like pulling a loose thread on a sweater, unravelling the whole thing!

I had the exact same plan, but one thing lead to another, and another, and another, and another ..... Next thing I knew, it was all disassembled.

So the lesson here is to not use straight water? I wouldn't use straight water even in warmer climates because it leads to corrosion and pitting of the rotor housings. Then when it leaks into the tension bolt holes, it leads to rusty tension bolts. It will eventually eat its way into the combustion chamber usually through the spark plug holes. No thanks.

Yeah its my fault it was all I could do after I fixed it I had used the last of my coolant on the wifes car and was only gonna run water for a few days till payday and qouldnt you know my luck in Idaho stuff froze fast and I knew I was screwed on that. But Im also happy for it because now I have a reason to wanna tear stuff down and learn more.

And next time if I run out of coolant because of leaking issues Im just going to let the car sit with no water in it till I can afford to replace right.

Yeah, now you can get an S4 T2 waterpump if you go with an S4 or S5 turbo. They're water cooled and need to be hooked up to the nipples on the S4 T2 waterpump.

haha I'm glad lol but its gonna get harder here soon my wife's brother is coming back to the states and is complaining about wanting his house back and fussing about not wanting to give me back my money so progress is gonna still be taking its course for as long as possible.

I hate when people wanna flip flop on deal like property so i'm in a fairly terrible mood and not to happy with my wife or her family at all it's not her fault but she is the only one to talk to about it right now.

me and her brothers have never seen eye to eye and would always love to screw me on this but I will keep posting up any and all process I can get.

and congratz to me I made 200 post woot!~

Brother in-law is gonna be back by monday have to move my stuff out of the shop by then cause he doesn't even wanna let me finish paying him off.

Guess I'm gonna have to do what I can outside which i'm gonna hate I will have to just take my engine over to a buddies garage and try to work on it but other then that I have to move my whole car to my fathers house and let the chassis sit until me and my buddies get our business up and running hopefully sometime next year.

So basically i'm homeless but my wife isn't because her brothers don't care if she is around but hate me enough to tell their mom to keep me from living in the same place and I would rather have my wife not deal with that drama so I guess I will
figure this crap out.

On a side note anyone have spare iron that don't have to bad of wear on them for a decent price? keep me posted I mostly need a middle Iron with an oil spout and then motor will pretty much be ready for rebuild.

I have but no choice but to accept the inevitable just get this thing done ASAP and start breaking her in but that's life I guess?
