Looking forward to seeing the finished product. I've used the bed liners stuff in fenderwells in the past I never though about using it under the hood.

I cant wait to get back to work on my baby. I moved out of my dads house and got a new job and I can only go home on the weekends when my room mates go back to town. I did get some work done before I left though. I picked up my motor from Jeff20b. Sounds like its got excellent compression. I got it temporarily mounted in the car until I get back. Had to modify one of the motor mounts to fit. I did some more work on the bed liner but it hasn't turned out the way I had hoped so far because I was using a brush instead of a roller and it was pretty cold out so it was too thick. Its only the first coat though. I'm going to finish in the spring when it warms up and I'll use my spray gun I got for the liner. I ordered some new clutch master, slave, and throwout bearing but there was a problem so I have to reorder the parts again after they refund me. I think I can have it back on the road by the end of January.

I finally have an update. I was able to get in to town to do some work during the weekend. I had to reorder some parts from Rock Auto because I missed one number in the address and everything had to be returned. But I reordered everything and got the address right this time. lol. I was able to get the new clutch master mounted, the new clutch release bearing installed, new clutch slave mounted, motor and trans bolted together and installed in the car, got all the rust out of the waterpump housing and painted, new waterpump painted and bolted on, new thermostat, and a few other small things. I'll try to get some pictures of her up soon. Unfortunately they are just a few cellphone pics because I forgot to bring my camera. It felt so nice to do some work. I brought my engine harness with me so I can do some more thining. There really isn't much left anymore so when I'm done its going to be pretty slim. I dind't get to do as much as I wanted due to the wonderful washington weather, but it brings me that much closer to hearing my baby purr, I mean HUMMMMMMMM, again.

Here are the pictures I promised. Sorry it took so long. We just got decent internet service. The service we had before was slower than dial-up.

Got a battery tray from the junk yard that wasn't rusted out like my old one. I sand blasted it and painted it. I have to drill out 2 broken bolts but that shouldn't take long.

This is how shes sitting right now. I only have the 1 lowering spring on right now. I also replaced the old sway bar end link bushings with poly bushings.

Here is the wiring mess I have right now. I've removed about 5 pounds of unused wiring.

I also got the driveshaft back in. Feels like I've made progress.

definatly making good progress. removing even 15lbs of unused wiring would not make me justify pulling the dash.. i worry about that spray on bed liner getting kinda goopy and soft under the heat of the engine. the exhaust temps as they're exiting the engine are 1500+ degrees and manifold temps are extremely high as well. i hope it holds up well because you put a lot of time into it.

The dash came out so I could fix some electrical issues with the climate control and the gauges. The dash is cracked pretty bad so I wanted to try some things I saw on tv for fixing the cracks. It makes replacing the clutch master and brake booster easier to. lol.

I just bought some rust oleum undercoating in spray cans to do my engine bay with. I hope it turns out half as nice as yours is looking. The weather here is sucking pretty bad right now too...so I know how progress can be affected. Keep up the nice work. Subscribed!

Hmmmm. Tempting. How much would shipping be? It would be going to 98408. Is it an s1, s2, or s3 dash?

Its been awhile since I posted but some progress has been made. The radiator mounts have been painted and reinstalled. I got the negative battery cable run. I removed some more wiring and dont have much more to go. I drilled a couple holes for tucking the wiring and put in some grommets. I also bought quite a bit of stuff. Its amazing how these things go from budget builds to full on projects. lol. I bought a 1014 piece weatherpack kit and crimpers, an HID kit, LED side marker and reverse bulbs, an adjustable FPR, polyurethane dust boots for the steering system, a carter fuel pump, and a few other things I cant remember. lol. Too bad I wont be home for a couple more weeks. My room mate/drivers mom hasnt been feeling well so we had to skip this weekend and the boss gets next weekend. :/ Only thing I need now is a radiator.

Pulling the dash is eighteen million times worse than putting one in. I wonder if the s3 dash would fit, as i need one for my s2 also. Looking forward to see how that pans out for you. Great looking car though, and its good to see someone else say "Oh this needs some fixing" then gut the entire engine bay lol

lol. Yeah. Thats pretty much what happened. Started out as just a motor swap and cleaning things up Then I decided to paint the engine bay. Then I wanted to paint and clean everything else. Then why not clean up the wiring? Maybe I should strip everything and tuck the wiring. While I'm at it I should change all the connectors to weatherpacks. lol. Hopefully I dont get anymore ideas except for an aluminum radiator. Mine is shot so I figure why not spend a bit more for something that looks nicer than a stock one.

I still have a pile of parts that are going to go in later. I have a GSL-SE rearend thats going to be rebuilt as well as rearranging the clutches to be like a GSL (2-2 instead of 1-3). The calipers are being rebuilt right now. I need to find a set of GSL-SE front struts and spindles as well so I can have the same lug pattern. I also have a FMOC off of a 79 but I need longer lines for it since I'm mounting it in front of the radiator. I found a Racing Beat header at the junk yard that had the flange cut off so I'm going to reflange it to make it a road race header and make a custom 2" dual exhaust. So much to do.

Been a while since I last updated. I finally got the 7 moved to my house. Its so nice to be able to work on her everyday again. I've done some more wiring and got some more parts cleaned and painted. I bought a good brake booster since mine was no good. I also picked up a set of front TII calipers so I can get started on my brake upgrade. I'll get some pictures tomorrow.

Yeah it does. They look nicer and they dont crumble in your hands like the originals do. The original connectors for the windshield wiper motor were being held together with tape.

I ordered an aluminum radiator. Should be here monday or tuesday. I can finally ditch the rusted out original. I also got all new rad hoses and exhaust hangers.

Anyone have any ideas how to clean rust out of all the rubber coolant hoses? I cant seem to find new ones anywhere and the old ones are still in good shape except for the rust inside.

What coolant hoses are you talking about? If you need to reuse get a brass brush. Soft and wont eat the rubber.

A long-handled bottle brush would work.

Thanks for the link. I dont know how I missed those. I ended up using a combination of brass brushes and a nice brush kit I found at Harbor Freight today. It had a handle, an extension, and various sizes of replaceable brushes of steel, brass, and nylon. The best part is that it chucks right up in my drill. I then used a Scotchbrite pad and some Mothers Back to Black to clean them up and make then look new. I will replace them eventually but they will get me back on the road for now.

Any body know where to get replacement hose clamp like the originals? Some of mine are too rusted to reuse and some are missing. I also cant find any place that sells the slotted nuts for the steering assembly. The only place I found that sold them only had standard.

No pictures again. I cant find the cord for my camera.
