I purchased my dream car. 80 widebody 13b with real targa!

As the title says, I put a down payment on my dream car the other day. I go back to get it in two weeks or so.

Its a 1980 RX7 that underwent a ground up 'restoration' per say that took about 7 or so years.

It has a Rotary Engineering widebody, from what I can tell. It looks to have a Mariah fiberglass hood. The coolest thing of it all, it has a real targa conversion that I believe was done by Petty Enterprise! It also has jongbloed wheels.

The engine is a rebuilt 13b, non turbo. I believe it came out of an -SE. I am unsure about this though. It has a Weber carb, complete exhaust which I believe is RB, electric fans, Mallory hyfire ignition for leading and trailing and a few more goodies, too.

On to the pics!

So there she is! Ill grab a lot more pictures when I get her home. I need to do some minor work to the interior and clean it all up. The first show is June 7th!

Wow, congradulations! That car is beyond awesome. Is there any removable roof? What has been done to re-enforce the frame?

Looks good, that body kit is the same as my kit and Trochoids. Which was previously available from CPracing in Canada, but now it's sold through black dragon. The hood does appear to be from mariah. The wheels look awesome from the side view but almost look like they could use a small spacer to bring them out slightly more.

I really like the targa top, I'm interested in what they did underneath the car to help support it together without the roof?

Very nice car, can't wait to see more pictures!

That is beyond well done. Beautiful. What's been done to the suspension? It looks like it would be happier another inch or two lower.

Overall it looks very clean. Interesting front bumper. I wonder if there is a way to blend it any better.

I love the wheels!

I've never been a huge widebody fan, but it looks to be high-quality work done by someone who wanted things right.

Congrats on getting your dream-car! If it floats your boat, then that's all that matters.

Definitely a stand-out, one of a kind car. The red highlighting of the original 80 interior decor is quite striking.

Awesome! I'd definitely boot mount the battery to clean up that corner of the engine bay though. As others have said, it would be interesting to know what has been done to strengthen the chassis.

Yeah, after the interior gets re-worked I'll find some spacers. Does anyone have a good website for that? This whole widebody thing is new to me, haha.

The interior is a little over the top for me. The red really stands out and Ill have to change that. I may keep the red trim line red and thats it.

I have always felt that the first gens deserved a targa top. They just look like they belong on there. Good looking ride, that's for sure!

Whoa! Very nice find man! I'm also interested in the reinforcement of the chassis to accommodate the targa. I'd also like to know what you've got for suspension under there.

hahahahahahahaha. Niceeeeeee! ^

Ill grab some shots of the reinforcements. The frame was beefed up all the way back with heavy steel and bolts. I have some shots Ill upload from my phone.

The windshield, if it really is a petty (which I am almost positive it is), is reinforced by aluminum along the sides of the window.

The roll cage that petty put in was another step they took to reinforce everything.

Sorry I have been lacking on the pictures. Ill upload some of the ones I took tonight. I already had to rewire most of the aftermarket things the previous owner installed. All the wires were twisted together then taped over. To his credit, they all worked!

RotaryDude; I'll keep you on top of the list if I get rid of her. Hopefully I wont have to for a while, but sometimes life brings changes, or so I'm told!
