Thanks guys. I too wonder why Mazda would have ever looked over a black interior for the blue or bloodstone or whatever its called.

I decided instead of hydro printing my stereo bexel and shifter bezel, I painted it somewhat the stock silver. its a little more metallic with more metal flake. I was afraid the hydro print might be pretty tacky looking.

SO, this is what I came up with. For the most part the interior is done. Minus the column surround ( which I need badly lol ) ,headliner, and quarter window trim i havent put on yet.

Redline Goods Shift Boot and Center Console Lid Cover

Like the title says, my Redline Goods stuff came in. Out of the box I was very impressed. Great quality material and looked flawless. I wrapped stapled the console lid cover on first which was pretty straight forward. I ordered the extra padding as well. It turned out perfectly. i can set my forearm on the padded lid and my hand is at the right height and distance to my Rotary Shack short shifter and RX7.com ****.

The shift boot however..... I assume they make these boots with the mindset the stock plastic pegs and what not is broken on the back of the shifter surround. the bottom on all four sides of the cover are velcro. SO you have to take a razor, shave the ribs and what not to make it smooth on the back of the surround THEN glue the velcro strips on the backside of the surround. Check. went to put it in, the velcro extends too far out and wont let the surround click down. Shaved it down some , no go. The velcro can only stick out about 3/8" from the center hole or the surround wont sit correctly. I had to cut the damn velcro off completely and super glue the boot itself to the surround. Looks great and is sturdy but it wasnt pleasant.

Before I trimmed it down.

After

The lid !

Pretty busy day. Im laid off from work for a few weeks so nows the time to knock out a lot of work on the car. Today I sandblasted and powdercoated my rad bracketing and Rotary Shack top piece. Then bolted the ProTuning Lab 3 core aluminum radiator on as well.

After that I began cleaning up and creating a nice work station to rebuild my engine myself. The turbo II irons are cleaned and powder coated "chrome" as well as the housings and front cover.

Im using a standard Atkins rebuild kit. I was going to have a shop build it but its just not fitting in my budget right now and I really feel compelled to literally do all the work myself.

So far I have everything cleaned. Checked tolerances which all are well within, including stationary and rotor bearings. I also clearanced all the side seals and got the springs, corner seals, corner seal springs, oil control rings and springs installed one one rotor. tomorrow I will be finishing assembly.

Oh, and Ive settled on the placement for my brothers Legacy emblem. Once I delete the rear hatch key hole the emblem will be lowered some.

Thats all until tomorrow.

Thanks !

Davey

Engine complete !

Rebuild went very smooth. Rotated it with a ratchet a couple turns and it sounds promising. Now I need an s5 auto counterweight so I can strap on the lightweight flywheel and a 4 port lower manifold for the Dellorto.

A little eye candy in the meantime.

Thats all for now,

Dave

How did you get your interior black paint? Can you share tips please ?
Also where did you get your re amemiya carpeting? And did you just polish your rotor housings and side housings?

For the plastics on the interior i used the semi gloss duplicolor vinyl and fabric spray.. Use very thin coats at a time and do it in direct sunlight.

JasonS on the club made my RE Amemiya mats and did an extraordinary job.

As for the engine I powder coated literally the entire outside of the engine "reflective chrome" at a lower temperature than normal, for 30 minutes.

Exhaust finished !

The exhaust is finished. I'm using an Aeroturbine muffler with a high flow cat from Summit. 2.5" from the collector back. My friend did the majority of the welding because he works at a shop with a bender to fab it up. But some parts where he was unable to finish, I tig welded and spruced up some. Then I sprayed it with 2000 degree flame proof paint.

Tomorrow after I bolt the oil pan on and block the turbo coolant ports, the engine will be going in.

Also decided to use the stock s5 flywheel paired with a new exedy stage 1 clutch.

I hope the exhaust lasts for a while and isn't disgustingly loud. You still have diffusers so... it should be ok. Maybe. Video or audio clip soon?

Yeah me too. 2.5" has me wondering how loud it will be. As for lasting, its 1/8" pipe so hopefully it will.

I still need a turbo2 lower manifold to complete the key parts list but hopefully soon on the video !

I hate to say it , but that exhauat will be quite loud! Hope it turns out ok. You can always weld an RB presilencer in if it is to take away the rasp.

You guys know my opinion on rotary exhausts; if it's NA, it's gotta be a long primary. I'm curious how this short collected one will sound though, and how long the 3 bolt flange will last without warping/leaking. Also curious how the exhaust paint will look after engine break in.

Please keep in mind I dont particularly want it too quiet. Hence why I went with a high flow cat and a Aeroturbine muffler.

Fingers crossed on the tone though, haha.

Good News Btw !

Update time !

Engine is in !!

As usual it wanted to be difficult sliding on but all went well. Hopefully soon I will acquire a TII lower manifold. After that it should be start up time !

Unfortunately I have ran into an issue... My E fan hits the damn water pump pulley. This is due to the ginormous Pro Tuning Lab radiator. It was listed for an 84-85 and i just didnt take in consideration the longer block and the thicker radiator being that close. Sucks. That shroud and e fan look amazing..

At the moment im searching for a lower profile fan but would have to be pretty damn thin. I dont think I will have much luck considering the diameter of the fan isnt exactly small.

However my dad who was a long time fabricator seems to think he can modify the shroud OR build a polished shroud for the use of a clutch fan.

I will be gone this week for the holidays but hopefully next friday I will have the exhaust bolted on.

Until then... Happy Thanksgiving and Enjoy !

Or... fabricate a new radiator mount. Cut the stock radiator mount back about 2 inches. Youd need longer hoses though.

You can mix and match clutch fan components to make a really short one. I had to do that in the GLC. The result is quite a bit of space between the fan and the core (like a half inch which is huge). Now I just need to fab a shroud to take advantage of the distance, or leave it.

I think I used the short stamped steel bracket and an 81-82 clutch installed on an 84-85 blade.

The engine looks good in there. lots of contrast. A bright spot in a dark engine bay.

Edit: Oh wait, is that an FC waterpump? I see a coolant cap on the thermostat housing. Your fan options may be limited.

Welp turns out the fan will fit. I have about a 3/8" gap between the back of the efan and the pulley. My dad discovered i didnt have the shroud in quite right( i was pretty tired) andd it fits ! So all is well. While im waiting to find/ acquire a stock turbo2 lower manifold, im going to finish the wiring. That includes the stereo setup, and extra fuse block as well.

Ran into this fitment issue in the 84 SE. I have the same radiator, and I have run the **** out of it for about 50k miles. It doesnt leak, cools very well and still looks pretty good.

The aluminum on mine is getting dull, and doesnt seem to respond to polish at all. My welds have also turned a white color for some reason as well. Only thing I can warn you about, is that the hose clamps and hoses must be PERFECT. These radiators like to leak around the hoses when cold, because they shrink a good bit.

Thanks for the feedback on the radiator. I will be sure to use the Oetiker stepless hose clamps on it.

Will have more updates tomorrow.

Dell 48 rebuilt !

Well today I wasnt feeling too well, so I decided to take it easy and rebuild the carb in the house where its warm lol. Turned out extremely well. No issues that I am aware of anyway. I still need to get an idea of where to start with the jetting. I think I should try to base it off the recommendations for a s5 streetported n/a since i have T2 irons.

Tomorrow I will be powder coating my air filter housing, bolting it on as well as the throttle linkages and upper manifold. Lower manifold should be here this weekend, and already has the emissions blocked off.

Thats all for now ! Enjoy !

More Dell lovin

Well today I was powder coating my throttle lever or whatever the hell you wanna call it, and my air filter housing... and got to thinking about the jetting for my particular engine. So I did some research and found a thread titled Dell Carbs. With all the jetting and modification info i could possibly need.

I got to reading it and thought, oh ****... I really need to to all these modifications like Racing Beat does. So I took off the accel pump housing and the top only to find out it is already a RB Dellorto. Wooooooo ! Seems like the jetting is in good order to start from for my engine as well according to Rob at the Shack.

Anyway I bolted on the powder coated parts and the upper manifold today. Looks phenomenal.

Probably wont have a whole lot of updates again till Sunday. However the LIM should be here this weekend. So I would say next weekend I should be close to firing it up for the first time !!!!

Enjoy !

Great to see your engine build especially since you're also going to run a Dellorto carb. Interestingly I am doing a similar 13B build with Racing Beat template street ported 12A irons, exhaust ported SE rotor housing from Atkins and 90 S5 NA rotating mass with high compression rotors.

I recently purchase a Dellorto 48 carb that has a R5010 metal tag so I am assuming it's a Racing Beat Dellorto like yours. Though the Dellorto appears to be in excellent condition I want to rebuild the carb.

Would you mind sharing your Dellorto gasket set, parts source?
