Finally went at it and finished off my self built 8.8 rear end, also made my own links, and had to get my custom driveshaft modified... so far the $125 rear end (before cost of making it work) runs smooth... also made custom brackets to run stock gslse rear brakes
put it on the dyno at street machine nationals but also had a bunch of issues with tacho misreading and car overheating.... numbers were down from last time but its a different dyno, they never attached a lead to ignition etc etc... car is a different beast from when it put down 412whp and 385tq... so while the new numbers were a heart break I did hit 150mph in 4th on the dyno hahahahha
so end of last season I started having some hot start issues and lost compression... so rebuild time and some updates... I had a bunch written out and somehow I clicked a different thread and well lost it all....so I will cliff note it this time...
First time rebuilding/stacking a rotary myself... ever.. actually first motor Ive ever rebuilt...
upgrades:
cdi ignition MWpro12
Atkins pulley setup with serp belt... got rid of the gilmer...
New corner seals
new RA apex seals
Custom turbo manifold (all done by me, designed and milled my own flanges) sch40 SS pipe so she wont fall apart haha
New Turbosmart Hypergate45 wastegate
Full SS 3.5in exhaust coming with 4 mufflers if I can fit them... trying a new muffler that apparently is similar to magnaflow for half the price or less... we will see
Bigger turbo - same center cartridge but going from what I think was like a 56mm inlet to a 69mm - new one is a Borg Warner S369 SX-E 9180 69/73 with a 1.10 AR divided
probably missing a few things but this was a budget rebuild that the wife was kind enough to let happen... she said its gotta be done or youll have a pile of junk sitting in teh shop and be all pissed off... so $2500 budget (I spent an additional $1000 out of side stash as I added the wastegate and pulley setup)
Amazing project brother, you have some "serious" skills, my "hats-off" to you!
thanks Seniorchief.. wish I knew how to tune tho.. 700 miles on motor and still having starting issues.. thought maybe compression issues due to corner seals I used (Michael Vargas messaged me about using them but id already closed the motor)
found out yesterday it could be simple tune/fuel issue as I removed fuel on startup and she fired off a couple times but then wouldnt today…
such is the rotor life.. I have a big event this weekend I can attend for a short time the. thats my season unless I can get it to start correctly.. hard to go to events and it not starting right
but Ive let it sing a few times on the old best map and she moves hahah Id live to get it sorted right
similar setup with this new turbo put down 721hp on 32psi boost.. so its got the goods to hit 500whp easy enough..
it does run.. havent got many vids driving.. have some.. need more from other cars to capture the sound good
spring is here.. had to move it from wifes garage back to mine to get it on lift and recheck timing in prep fro Ryan Heinrich to help go over some tune issues.. the 15ft move somehow took a 14mile detour
