Ho-kay. I piddled around with the dash last night and today. Have one of those dash caps to replace the very attractive original.

Expect no quarter from the Arizona heat. Only the strongest, hardiest, tough as nails, and virile men can handle it.

So anyway, the goal is to get this thing glued on over the old dash.

I got a couple of Mitsubishi eyeball vents to replace the crumbling to dust old ones. After sanding down the old dash, taking out the high spots and digging out the old rotten foam, I filled the gaps with hot glue.

I used the rotary tool with sanding disk to trim out the rotten areas and clean up extra glue. Then I used my first generation Star Trek Phaser to heat up the glue and smooth it out.

The next step was to fit the dash cap. It was a little warped so I put some heat on it while holding it in position. Fit perfect after that. Squeezed out glue on the old dash. I only covered the edges leaving the main areas free to expand and contract.

Viola! The result.

Oh, here's a lucky find on eBay for $15.00 bucks. I felt like I found the Holy Grail.

I'll give the glue time to cure before I cover it with a high dollar genuine leather. I believe it's referred to as vinyl in the very best social circles.

The thought came to mind. I tried hot gluing something interior once and it came apart in one day of parking the car in the sun. Whats the melting point on those sticks? If I was to do mine I would probably use some sort of silicon caulking in a tube.

I read 350 to 390, but that sounds pretty high. I'll find it one way or another.

The glue I used to secure the dash cap was IPS Weld-On #16 Plastic Glue Cement for Acrylic - Plexiglass. I forgot to include that in the post.
