Yeah photo came out of my Nikon F5. It was raining pretty hard that day and I trusted the weather proofing on my 25 year old Nikon more than my A7III

S4 13b gets pulled august 2019

its now august 2019,
I finally get all my money in order and get the donor motor torn down to inspect. this motor was given to me for my bday 2017- or 18 (i cant remember) from josh that had literally just been sitting for years
he got it for 100 bucks, turns out to near immaculate!

took the motor down to Cesar Motorsports (big rotary guy in az) to get built.
he says itll be ready in a few days so time to bust *** and get the engine bay prepped and painted

old s4 13b and grimmey bay

s5 donor that had been living in my shed for years

josh acting like he was there helping

bay all cleaned up

bay all primed up

and on wednesdays we wear pink

bay is ready now just to get everything else ready to go in

13b bridge port

got the engine back from Cesar
s5 13b bridgeport
went with an ACT 6 puck sprung HD clutch (mainly cause it was yellow) (also would highly recommend ACT clutches still going strong with lots of abuse)
still stock 12a 5spd trans
RACINGBEAT Holley intake
topped with the same Holley 650 dp
same racing beat exhaust mani

would you have expected any other color?

dont mind the overspray on the top hats, i put the new coilovers in later that week

went on a nice break in cruise on the freeway loops for a few hours

so yea, now the car makes cool noises

if i can figure out how to upload videos ill post the start up vid

Stance coilovers and rear arms

shortly after the new engine was put in I got my stance coilovers installed
loads better than the previous setup

rear coilover comparison

installed with t3 drop brackets, and THE DRIFTINGDADS custom rear arms

dont mind my shotty paint job

heres a pic of the fronts and how I have them mounted(this pic was taken a couple days ago to show the top hats)

punched out the studs on the top hats and used bolts and lock nuts to mount them on top of the strut tower for extra suspension travel

2nd event after bp and coilovers

so now were in October 2019 at import face off phoenix
ended up having to raise the car a bunch not sure what it was but even with the stiffer springs on the stance coilovers, the front tire kept grabbing the fenders causing initiations to be VERY scary while tandeming.
other wise the car was great even though I drove like *** all day

loos like the same pic as before but its not I swear. this was while waiting to be teched

this is doms car after I spun in front of him... hehe oopsies

and my front after dom hit me. (ended up realigning by pulling the bumper off and hitting the mounting brackets straight with a BFH)

drove like *** all day but we pulled it together to win team tandem for the 2nd year in a row!

this is just me and my awkwardness.... moving on

Desert meihan 3

FINALLY caught up enough for some videos!
december 2019 at desert meihan 3, probably the best driving ive ever done to this point
CAR WAS FANTASTIC ALL WEEKEND! only issue being loosing a caliper bolt and luckily my friends were nice enough to run to the local hardware store to grab a matching bolt

for those that dont know the goal for this track is go as fast as possible down the straight, and initiate as close to the wall as possible
LOTS of but puckering moments that weekend

also just before this event i had donnie cut my knuckle to get a little more angle and have less turns of the steering wheel lock to lock

heres some videos

this one has a mix from the next event

whoda thunk you'd actually see 2 fbs drifting together (donnie in his v8 powered fb)

riding the wall with forrest **** on my ***

Showdown ii

next up was showdown 2!
this was February of 2020
another very solid event only had to up my fuel pressure a bit
only real issue was this tires i was using were all 7+ years old. the companys shipping werent watching for DOT codes.
unfortunately this led to them only lasting a few laps before they would debead and get destroyed meaning i didnt get a lot of seat time, but it did make me push alot harder

more of me and dom!

YELLOW CAR TANDEMS!!!!

switching things up and doin a little grip racing while no one else was on track

good old film photos courtesy of mr @_analog_culture

moarrrrr film

Mr banana hands and I

skip about halfway thru for driving from this event

Nocoast drift party 10!!!!!!!!

first road trip with the truck out to new mexico for ncdp10 at sandia speedway in sept 2020
probably one of my favorite tracks because you can carry so much speed throughout the course BUT holy sheet does it kill tires fast!
the surface is literally like rocks stuck to the ground, with cracks wider than my tires
overall.... 100% worth the trek

car was pretty solid minus some intermittent fueling issues that I never figured out ( probably just needed to play with the carb but I think I forgot my jetkit

nikki all loaded up

we made it!

more gold from @dutch_touch2

no power gang

actually made some smoke

sparky nights

nice little cruise after to get tacos... or maybe it was burgers? ended up getting pulled over driving thru downtown with no mufflers... good timess

little mashup from the event

More driving, and finally breaking stuff

did some more driving in october 2020 i believe, car was feeling very weird but i pushed thru it.

me and juan

you can see how sunk in the rear wheel is

turns out i sheered the rear lower arm mount right off

good thing I had a spare junk rear end we stole the bracket off of

LOL

went ahead and reinforced both sides

this was the broken side

all fixed and havent broken a mount since

what's the point of those extended brackets?
Seems like the extra length exerts a lot of leverage on the stock brackets

The rear coilovers need that room for the spring to fit behind the axle tube.
Also it gives you a choice of mounting points for the lower trailing arm. If your rear is lowered then moving the lower trailing arm is supposed to help restore the original geometry.
Also good for high hp cars.... think of traction bars on a muscle car, to help prevent wheel hop (axle wrap).

the extended brackets give more shock travel( needed on these when theyre lowered. and also as stated they allow different mounting positions for the lower arms.
and honestly youre right these probably played a huge factor in sheering that mount do to the leverage.
took a while but they finally gave out

4.77 gears

i had been wanting to do this swap for a long time and finally bought a set of 4.77 ring and pinion gears.
if i remember correctly they come out of a kia sportage? from the front diff and swap right in

I don’t think the drop mount brackets were the issue. I’ve been using the same ones for a few years now. I’ve been autocrossing and done several lapping events with them without issue. I think the side force from the panhard bar was problem..

I agree. I like about 1/2 the products I've got from T3 over the years. I wouldn't want their panhard though. A proper panhard sits about parallel with the ground when the car is at rest, and needs strong bracing on both ends.

The T3 bar is a simple bolt in, but the geometry is terrible and the bracing is born to fail, as our hard-driving friend found out. That bar is trying really hard to push the axle towards the drivers side, and fighting against the other links' swing of travel. Bind-bend-break.

But I'm still Team Watts, so.

Definitely right about the panhard bar being a big factor

Life gets in the way

after that last event i was pretty much in major savings mode trying to buy a house
so not much happened. until i got settled in financially after the house stuff

getting settled in

i did have one issue, and i think it was from the car sitting so long with oil that hadnt been changed in while ( very gassy smelling) the front cover o ring started to fail
typically after the new motor was put in i was at around 70-80 psi at idle
it started seeing numbers in the 40s and decided it should take a look

engine pulled

whoopsies good thing i checked (definetly mustve torn when pulled off)

yuckkk time to freshen up

all better

secret to making a Holley drive amazing THOMPSON PERFORMANCE POWER BLAST PLATES
these help the fuel atomize better. typically the accelerator pump squirters shoot out like a stream ( as if you had a garden hose running) with these, its as if you had your thumb on said hose and now its more of a spray/ mist.
they make a night and day difference when it comes to off the line throttle response/smoothness and get rid of the hesitation when the secondaries crack open

OH and the car got a racing beat muffler so my new neighbors didnt hate me

got the front cover on with new gaskets and its been good as new since!
