Rebuilt the 48 IDA and it's looking better.
Picked up a McDaniel Control 1.5" 1/8"npt 0-15psi gauge.
Even though it isn't glycerin filled, I figured this would be better than a cheap-o Chinese one.
I've got a 2" McDaniel all steal gauge with glass face 0-10psi but it's too bulky to keep attached to the lines. It sticks out way too much with the snubber and 1/8" adapter.

Added these 2" spacers to the carbie setup:
So it bumped the carb up and should stand to improve the low end response a little bit.
Here's what it looks like:
Also, removed the oil metering system and blocked it off:
I'll be running pre-mix.

Waiting to finish up the exhaust here soon. 4" resonator just arrived. Going to pick up some 2.25" piping.
I "welded" up a "Y" collector for my headers that go from 2" OD to 2.25" OD using a couple of pie cuts. I'd show a pic but my welds are embarrassingly ugly.
Just waiting on the megaphone to arrive now.

It's no RB pre-silencer but it is a 4" OD resonator that's about $200 more affordable for me and another step closer to finishing up the exhaust and being street "legal".

Past due update:
Installed the NST steering rack adapter/spacer last Friday on my off day (4/27/2012)
Here's a side by side comparison of the steering angle difference.
Passenger Side Before
Passenger Side After
Driver Side Before
Driver Side After
(*note: this is a power steering rack w/o the lines and pump, etc...)

OMP adapter kit installed. Yay!
Lines to the intake manifold via 90 degree 1/8" barb to 1/8" npt fittings.
The clear lines are a 4mm ID/6mm OD, crack-resistant Teflon hose. The hose is a very snug fit on the 12A OMP nipples and 1/8 barbs fittings. They'll hold up well against the pre-mix solution. The pre-mix reservoir bracket is next on the list and then a longer linkage to hook the OMP up to the throttle lever of the IDA.

I run 4 oz of Amsoil Dominator 2-stroke per 5 gallons of fuel if that helps. I get it at Napa for $28 / gallon. I've been turning my 12a upwards of 10,800 rpms's for the past 7 years without issues.

Got the replacement 12A (stock port) in, hooked up, fueled and ignited. Took her for a spin around the neighborhood at 9PM last night. I know my entire subdivision is making plans to get the HOA and local law enforcement to get it taken away now. It's LOUD!
Escaped from the neighborhood "watch" and made a bee-line for the gas & sip down the feeder, then U-d around once then twice to head back into the subdivision. Looking forward to jetting around town in it for the next trust-worthy test.
Could stand to step down a couple of inches in the rear and an inch in front.
There's a Fabricated Motorsports drift event up at GGP this coming weekend...hmmmmm....

The guys who drive AE86s at my local autocross club constantly kick my *** in my FB's class, and they're all running original engines from what I can tell.
A 12a with an IDA carb would own some serious face. I'm loving this project already, and it isn't even an rx7!
Best of luck in the project,
Jon

Went to meet up with a friend who offered to help me paint the car.
Here it is when I first arrived at LaPorte to meet up with my buddy Corey:
Wet sanded some spots and cleaned it up then brought it into the bay:
...and taped her up:
My phone was dead and Corey's was at the cusp of blackout but was able to snap a few of the car done. Here's one:
Corey grabbed some quick footage of me while we were driving back from LaPorte last night after we roller painted the Levin. The most relaxed time I've ever had painting a car and with extremely little clean up.
Some fire "works"
Corey, thanks for providing the facilities, the paint, the expertise (well, you have more experience than I did to begin with) and valuable time man. YOU DUH MAN!

After testing out the Sakura Fab prototype 12A intake gasket on the dyno (see thread here) Engine Logics boss man and engine guru Chris suggested pulling the silencer from my exhaust. So "Mad" Brad Burnett obliged and in 60 seconds the Levin went from...
...to picking up 13.3WHP!
Okay, so I just have to always keep a pair of ear plugs handy when I drive around in this thing.
Already went from F11 e-tubes to F3s and also upped the air correctors a half step to 145 since the dyno run.

It's ridiculous how much hp rotaries pick up from opening up the exhaust. My stock 12a has about 250,000 on the clock, it shows 6.9kg/cm2 on the compression test (right on the "you should rebuild below this line" line on the back of the tester), and yet it's putting 114hp to the rear wheels. That's what a Racing Beat Street Port exhaust system and a Sterling carb will do on a stock 12a. And I haven't even been playing with the timing yet.
I don't know how much room you have underneath, but if you want to keep it quiet enough to be street legal while opening up a bit more of that power, see if you can build yourself something with one pipe for each rotor, with an appropriately sized silencer in each, like the RB system for the FBs.

Funny you should mention running dedicated runners for each rotor. I was actually thinking about doing that after what I saw from the dyno but instead of collecting they'd stay separate all the way to their own megaphones side by side. Similar to a Greddy DD. It's still on the drawing board.
