I just picked up my first Japanese car. I own/owned a number of Japanese motorcycles, all of which go way faster than any rational person would ever want to go. It's about time I got something with 4 wheels that was made overseas. An 82' RX7 FB. Aside from some Racing Beat headers and a different leading plug ignition setup, this thing seems to be bone stock. I saw it one time (in the dark without flashlight) and decided I had to own it no matter what the cost. The previous owner was cool but didn't seem like a mechanic and from what I gathered, he gave the car a savage beating before it quit running and was left to sit in his parent's driveway for over a year. I negotiated the price from 900 to 500 and walked away with keys and a clean title.

I've eaten up every little bit of information I could possibly find on this forum and everywhere else, only scarfing down the very surface of everything there is to learn about these things. I knew before I even owned one that rotary engines are effing awesome and I couldn't wait to get one of my own. And that's just it. All I'm really interested in is that sweet *** 12A rotary engine under the hood. The car is DEFINITELY growing on me though. I've caught myself just sitting there, staring at it with a blank mind. All but drooling. I love the internal combustion engine, no matter how it works. I also love cheap sports cars. That's why I own a Fiero....

Anyways, In this Youtube video, you'll see the very first steps in my build. Alot of wrenching has been done since I recorded this 2 days ago, I haven't posted the new videos though. All I can say is future videos will be more professional with less swearing and more technical information as I understand it. At this point, I found a crack in the external oil cooler under the radiator. It's in the threaded boss where oil was returning to the front of the engine. All the vacuum lines are hard as a rock. Currently, the "Rats Nest" has been removed. The hood is off, the radiator and oil cooler are out, the carburetor is removed. Up next are the Nikki 4bbl mods (removing After Burn/EPA components) and finding some switched 12v sources to trigger relays for things like Ignition and cooling fans. I don't intend to gut this car. I just want to make it a simple and clean daily driver. My current DD is a 1979 Cadillac Coupe Deville that I pulled out of some dudes back yard after it sat for 14 years. The fuel consumption is KILLING me and I think just about anything would be better than what I have now.

The catch is... I got DUIs and other charges that basically make me a traffic menace. Because of this, all my cars MUST have SR22 and an ignition interlock device. I need to be sure this car is ready to go before I commit to swapping these expensive MFing obligations into it instead. I deserve the full wrath of the DOT, not trying to sound like a cry baby. It just gets pretty irritating sometimes.

I once owned a 79 DeVille. Got about 17 freeway. My old 78 Eldorado with the same 425 engine faired worse. I would expect the 7 to get low 20s. The Fiero has always been in my top five reasonable sporty cars to get. The SA/FB, XR4Ti, Fiero, C4 Vette and MK2 Celica/Supra.

That's an awesome car! It's really loud for just having a Racing Beat header as the only exhaust modification. I think once you get it running well you will thoroughly enjoy the car! These cars are an absolute blast to drive!
