So finally got to start working on the new project. First order of business was to say bye-bye to the tan interior. Picked up a lightly used, oem black carpet to help make the transition.
In addition to the carpet, I ran all of the wiring for the stereo system, removed the stock headunit, installed and pre-ran the wiring for the triple gauge setup and changed out the factory cluster with the Mazdaspeed setup.
replacing the Tan for black carpet is what im dong in the next few weeks. , Did you remove the Dash to install the black carpet? or did you cut it behind the radio?
Im removing the dash to avoid any cuts in the carpet.

I have the same cluster as you ! It's a beautiful piece. I'm just afraid of breaking the gaugehood
Was it a pain to remove it ?
To avoid breaking the gauge hood you can take a long flat head screw driver and flatten the clips by pushing them up from under the dash.
If you need to pull the dash (for example if removing the carpet) you can easily do it with the dash out. I'd recommend flatting a little more with a pair of pliers once you have it out which will make it super easy the next time around.

Before removing the dash you can try tug of war. Or loosen up the carpet as much as possible then then you or you and someone else together may be able to pull it out without removing the dash.
I'm small and work alone so this only worked once for me LOL

This. Take your time. If you break a 94+ gauge hood you'll be looking for a new one for years.
