Rich, have you lost your mind? Baby on the way?

Did you catch 3 rotor fever at DGRR????
Quite the opposite, I caught the old 'Build a 13B-bigT that'll hang with the 20Bs' Fever

Yeah, pretty nuts what may be hiding in a garage. This car was basically stored under a car cover in a heated garage for the last ten years of it's life

Last Saturday my Wife and I drove up to North Jersey and met Rich for breakfast. My wife drove this car and I went for a ride with Rich in it.
I have owned a stock FD before but this car is so tight and so fresh that it feels like its modded but it is bone stock.
I have also owned a GT35R street ported single turbo car so I know what "fast" feels like.

This car is as strong a car, as clean a car as I have seen in the RX-7 community.
I'm going to be honest... I've never experienced what a NEW FD would be like to own as I started driving them in the late 90's.
I think I have finally experienced what it must have been like to drive a new FD. Can you imagine getting into an RX-7 and not only have everything work...but look and smell like a brand new car with the window sticker still on it?

The new car smell on the FD was so intoxicating. My wife absolutely loved the car.
I had some bad luck with rotory engines in the past so I have been reluctant to buy a car with one again. I almost ate my words and bought it anyway. Its so alluring that if you show up to see this car and you have money in your pocket you will be begging Rich to take your money and get away with car and title before he changes his mind.

I have decided to go with an LS swapped car but this car is so clean, so nice... It feels like a new car buying experience. Seriously.
If I had enough money to buy 2 FD's I would buy it and put it in my garage and drive it to Starbucks on Sundays.

Rich and I both know that the only reason I didn't buy the car is it would be shameful to beat that near perfect low mile Specimen on a race track or to let my wife commute to work 80 miles
Round trip. It would be the equivalent of paying for your meal at McDonalds with a rare coin collection or mailing out the sewer bill with a rare stamp.

I almost don't want him to ever sell it. I just want him to keep it in that garage till I buy a bigger house so I have a place to hide it from the world.

Does it have any flaws? Yeah it has maybe a rock chip or little ding here or there and some light surface scratches on the paint on the fender from a tech servicing the car.
I think the 93 model had a paint recall. Its hard to say if that is the reason for the paint anomalies as I wasn't around the cars back in 93.

Overall I give this car a 9.7 on a 10 scale. And in my opinion a 10 would have to be a zero mile car.
Another plus is that Rich is easy to deal with and is a strong presence in the RX-7 community so I know he would always be available if I had questions after the sale.

If you are on the west coast and concerned with buying this car sight unseen.. Don't be. It is everything I say it is.

I took a quick video of the car on my phone of Rich taking my wife for a test drive. I will upload it to YouTube tonight and post a link. Hopefully it gives you an idea of how clean this car is.

Anyone would love the condition of this car.
Here is a quick clip I took of Rich backing it out of the driveway Saturday and taking my wife down the road with it.

Thumbs up

Had the car detailed today by my personal 'Professional Paint Guru' Bobby Rahim and it came out freaking amazing. Waaaaaay better than I expected. I knew it was a good day when I walked up to watch him work, and I was wearing my old beat-up Mazdaspeed hat..... and he was wearing a brand new mint identical Mazdaspeed hat. Comparo pics to follow soon

P.S. I'm not gonna lie...... I may just keep this car.

Man. That thing looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor. Like one of those Barrett Jackson cars.

Evidently the car was completely repainted with clearcoat, most likely back in the early 90's. Many of the first FD R-models had issues with their 'high reflex paint' being 'mucho chipping paint' and Mazda had cars repainted under warranty. No evidence of any accidents, which is pretty awesome for a 20 year old car

You should see the engine bay.... I'll snap some shots (Bobby took the ones above). He was able to get off the nasty dealer-applied anti rust coating around the front strut towers, which had been bugging me since I bought the car. The dude is a wizard

I would park that bad boy and leave it preserved for another 20 years if it were mine. Something about a 100% untouched car really makes me happy.

Thanks guys

Notice that the only 'mod' other than Chris Carlisi's '99 spec wheels is the Malloy Mazda rear license plate bracket. Gotta rep Big Bad Ray Crowe everywhere I go

Well, I took a deposit on the Mighty Stealth Bomber this past weekend..... she is going to a good home, a local gentleman who previously owned an R2 and plans to stick to reliability mods and enjoy the car on the street. She shall be missed, but hopefully I'll see her at local meets and maybe even at the shop

/end this build thread, now I can concentrate on the REAL build thread
