Here is the temporary plumbing. Too many junctions to be final, but it will work great for now.

Taking shape... Sheet metal work without tools is a bit of a slow process. This is still showing the white plastic film on the sheet. Lots of planish hammering (hand, not pnumatic) going on, so it won't look pristine when I'm done, but the fit should be very very good, and nearly airtight for proper pressure change and turbulence.

Just curious, why did you choose to mount the IC/RAD at an angle instead of straight?

PROS:

1. Hood post-cooling airflow exit (not possible with my hood and straight rad/IC mounting. This is for under hood temp management.

2. Easier access to stuff in the engine bay (once rear duct is removed, it will be very easy/fast).

3. Lower CG (EXTREMELY minimal, I know).

4. Downforce generation (minimal I know. I am sure I will have to explain this one too).

NEUTRAL:

Same flow area cross sections are easy to achieve with angled or straight mounting. This is essential to pressure management for flow charicteristics.

CONS:

Mounts with the center of mass of the coolers farther forward, which isnot good for handling (VERY MINIMAL). My shine bodywork and light hood more than compensate for this, but it all adds up.

Much more difficult IC and radiator plumbing.

Doesn't look as good as straight?

More difficult to mount?

Ducting more challenging?

You definitely took the road less traveled. Looks good.
Are you ducting the back side to mate with the radiator?

The IC and radiator are mounted together and sealed with weatherstripping. So no ducting needed.

Still have more adjustments to do on the sheetmetal. Without a core in the bumper, this duct sets where the front of the bumper sits, which is why it isn't centered and is a little saggy at the moment.

Once I got this far, it was too tempting to do a couple little things and go for a short drive. I filled and bled the cooling system and installed a greedy profec B boost controller. Old school and super adjustable/reliable. New spark plugs too. Idled great, pulled well even at 7 psi, and no overheating! I will kick it up to 10 psi later.

Great Build I love White FD's. you seem pretty detail oriented. do you have any plans on cleaning up the engine bay, like arbitrary wiring and paint? (not being a critic, just wondering)

Great question! I may do some touch up paint. I am not going to pull the engine or mess much with the engine harness. Rywire is the long term plan. I am cleaning up the rest of the wiring.

I still haven't done any more work on the duct/bumper. But adjusted the boost controller and got it to hold 10 very nicely. Drives great. Holds right at 83C. Here is a shot from a drive today to go pick up some bearings for Rogue Fabrication:

Well I finally decided I won't have time to enjoy this car often enough to justify it

Between my business and my 10 month old son, I have decided to sell my RX-7. Before I listed it for sale I finished up the front bumper lining up and wired up the starter amp circuit, and a few other odds and ends to make the car nice for the next owner. And then took some photos. Asking price is 14K with all the parts I have, less without. It will be posted here in the FS section as soon as the mods approve it.

PM me for e-mail, phone, etc if you want more info.

Well that didn't take long. I guess you weren't quite ready for a new toy.

I know all too well how that goes. I am self employed as well. I sold my last fd right after my daughter was born in 2010. It's a lot to juggle all things at once. You'll be back.

I guess the mods don't want me to sell it . I see plenty of new FS ads, and no response to why they won't approve mine.

As an update for the build thread, I adjusted the air ducting and front bumper so it is all lined up. And the car has finally ran with boost and warm weather (mid 70s, Oregon). Stuck to 180 degrees like a magnet

I also finally wired up a starter amp circuit. Should have done it a year ago! So nice without the click click start. Common issue if your FD doesn't do it... Always annoying too.

There are a few paries who have Pmed me about the car now. I will be sad to see it go, but happy to see it stay in the RX-7 enthusiast community.
