I did something a little extra on John's exhaust ports. Its what has become our new Stage 4 porting. I'm just now offering it to regular customers.

What on earth are you going to do with 30lbs? As if 530 isn't enough... I say swap to a higher gate spring pressure which'll actually give you even better response... and get rid of the dips in your graph and refine your set up. Raising boost =Broke things. If you track that car your going to break driveline components, but i'm sure you know that. Either way, Very nice car sounds great! Good work!!

Because its never enough power and we built the motor to take it.

Dont know. I may add another solenoid and use one solenoid for each wastegate. But first I have to disassemble the wastegates and see if there are any internal issues.

I am going to go faster with 30 lbs. I really want to max out my setup and see what I build can do. I plan to track the car at only 10-12 lbs as I need much more experience driving to even take advantage of the power the car makes at that power level.

Exactly, the motor was built to handle the power so I am going to take advantage of that.

Car is about dead even with my friends FD running a s475 at 20 lbs on e-85 with a street port.

bigbro, you should post a video of the bridge just idling and cruising around at low load to show they are very drivable.

Yes, I would reccomend having goopy do the bridgeport cut as they use a CNC machine to cut the slot so it is almost dimensionally perfect everytime. The only drivability issues I am having are when I hit a weird spot in the map that I have not tuned yet.

I will probably do a vid of me driving the car through manhattan that should help show the drivability. But that probably wont be this year. I will work on a vid though.

Just looked through all 31 pages. Very impressive level of work put into this car. Love how much time you put into making everything so aesthetically pleasing and it also makes great hp!

Yea it does. It is crazy to spin the tires at 60MPH. Once it is warmer that should not happen as much.

So, time for an update.

I went to the carlisi meet on nov. 15th. Had a great time tracking the FD. Remember that boost issue on the dyno that caused my power curve to be all weird. Well, while on track on my second to last session the car started over boosting to 23PSI when I was running only 10lbs on track. Since I was running E-85 it was no big deal to the motor but since my boost controler was off and I was running off the wastegate springs I knew there was something wrong.

Other than the boost issue all of the engine temps and pressures were good so I stayed out and finished the session. Once I pulled into the pits I could hear there was something wrong as the car was much louder than normal. Sounded like a huge exhaust leak. After a min of diagnosing I noticed the exhaust leak was coming from the wastegate dump tubes. The valves were not seating.... BOTH of them.

At this point there is nothing I can do and I trailered the car to the track so I was not worried about not making it home so I left it alone and finished the last session using my right foot to control boost. It sucked not being able to go more than 1/4 throttle but the car was still fast.

Unfortunately I am an IDIOT and forgot my go pro so no vids . All in all it was a great day, a bit cold but a lot of fun to meet up with a bunch of RX7 owners to close out the season.

I was able to get some pics though so I will post them in my next post when I get a chance to upload them.

So after coming home from Carlisi meet the car sat for 3 weeks before I got a chance to pull the wastegates. They are obviously broken.

Here is a vid of what they sounded like when I removed them

The diaphragm is good,

Both of them are broken in the exact same way. I guess the valve was moving inside the diaphragm and that is what was causing my boost issues.

Hey RENESISFD, are you receiving PMs?

I have attempted to contact you twice, during the last week and a half without any response.

I have a simple question for you.

So what do you think caused this to happen? Is this common for MVR wastegates?

^ IMO it is not a very good design. The valve stem uses 4 set screws to hold it in place over time vibration causes it to loosen up and allows the valve stem to slide back and forth. Eventually it moves so much that it breaks a hole in the top of the diaphragm like you see in the pics. I have an EMAIL out to TiAL to see what they say about it. To me one is a fluke but both of them at relatively the same time shows me a manufacturing flaw or a design flaw. I have maybe 10k miles on them and 3 track days but they are used a lot, there is a reason why people call me wastegate John.

On one hand it is frustrating but I am sure the wastegates were going bad while on the dyno so I am sure once I replace the parts I will have proper, consistent boost control. Which means more boost and of course more power.

So I sent the gates in and they ended up replacing the diaphragms for free but charged me for the valve and seat. It is better than nothing but IMO they should have covered all of it. Not exactly happy with that and if it was easy to do I would switch gate brands. Unfortunately due to the tight constraints of my manifold and the hardlines I am just gonna use them. Supposibly they changed the material of the valve and I should not have this problem anymore...... But if you changed the mater then you must have realized there was a problem! But still charge me for it. The turn around time was really fast (less than 48 hours)I will probably install them tonight.
