Ohhhhhkay, so I had a few minor setbacks when I gathered everything to start putting the motor together. I found out that my rotors were a 2mm and a 3mm, so I found a local guy and bought another 2mm for $225. After finding out that everyone under the sun has an opinion on Apex seals, I stuck with E&J, got those in. Then I realized my solid corner seals and Apex seal springs were all 3mm, so I bought them in 2mm. I bought a Dremmel and Goopy's rotor repair kit and sanded the carbon off the rotors. I bought a carbide Dremmel bit and a Mazdatrix streetport template but haven't done that yet. I traded away my 2nd trans for a motor mount and downpipe.
More things I need: stock primary injectors and id2000 cc secondaries, Adaptronics ecu, custom downpipe to fit my eBay churbo, pick up cat back from buudy in Houston, and no doubt there will be more surprises!

Ok almost done with the porting. Even with the tape I've a few fly away scrapes. They're not deep but you can see them. I know that if this doesn't run well/for long, then I'll know the engine inside and out and I'll just build it again. I've waited so long for an FD, it would literally just be money lost to do it again. I can make money over and over, but I'm achieving a dream and am/have done it on my own Wish me luck!

So first major **** up on my part. I decided to have a more aggressive streetport, and I've gone into the coolant wall. Time for a new front iron! Oh well. I'm going to know so much by the time I'm done!

Alright, so back on track! Got a replacement front iron in the mail that needed a lot of clean up, but I've got it ported. I've got it on the engine stand. I've got one rotor with all the side seals shaved down .003 clearance and finally figured out which oring goes to the damn dowels/housings. Tomorrow I'll work on actually putting more together. I'm having to look everything up as I go, but I'm really enjoying the bonding time.

Ok, so my gf and I broke up, though it was at the end of our lease so, good timing! I've moved my FD out of storage and into a garage here at my new place! I started trimming the seals on my second rotor and realized that I'm short one solid corner seal spring and sort two side seals! Lol. Im certain I've spent more on shipping from Atkins than I have in parts from them. Thankfully they sell most parts in singles. I want my motor together and in!

Finally got ahold of some Hylomar via Amazon and have begun actual assembly of the motor.
To be honest, I super scared. I think i have been through this whole build. Im scared cause I'm having to figure it all out as I go, and the possibility of it not keeping compression is probably fairly high, lol. But! If I fail I'll either try again or pay someone to build it.

Sounds like you had a hard time getting the apex seals to sit all the way down flush, it was prob hitting the corner seal spring or corner seal. I know the pain. Prob the part of the build where we say the most cuss words.

That and everything fell out or apart when I'd try and put the rotor in the housing. Even with a metric ton of petroleum jelly!

The biggest thing with building good compression on a rotary is good flat irons, good rotor housings, good apex seals (new ones) and side seals that move freely and are properly clearanced.
Once you get the stack together and torque down all the tension bolts, you should be able to turn the motor over by hand and have it spin and hear the compression whooshes in a regular pattern. If that is happening, the motor is happy.
Next big trick is assembling the front stack properly. It's not hard but you need to be sure the needle bearings are where they should be and it's worth checking end play on the stack. I would also use the newer metal front cover gasket, just toss it in, no sealant or O-ring, and you will be in good shape.
Next is all the crap that needs to be bolted to the motor, that's usually the place where people have problems when getting the car to start and run right. Take your time, ask questions when you need, and if something isn't going in right or doesn't look right, stop and see what's going on, don't just hack it in place.

Got the keg torqued down per the FSM to 25-28 ft/lbs and in the pattern per the FSM, not what I've seen elsewhere. I'm shooting for friends to come over and drop it in with me at the end of this month, January.

In other news I bought a front bummer Cause ya know, cars that don't run need fun parts! Lol.
Pics forthcoming. Error uploading.
