And so it begins.

About 16 years ago I fell in love with the FD right after falling in love with my first girlfriend. She taught me about the great Japanese cars from the 90's. She was 5 years older than me and drove a red '93 Toyota MR2 (non-turbo). I was 16 years old. Over time I learned more about the car and just like my first GF, the RX7 would break my heart. I yearned and dreamed, schemed and planned, but the FD was always be just beyond my reach. I grew into an avid RX7 and rotary fan. Eventually, I decided to settle for the FC. I bought an non-turbo '86 and gained working knowledge through the accelerated learning that comes with a car that constantly won't start. Later I spent student loan money on a turbo motor and convinced some friends to put it in with(for) me. I sold that car about year later after my divorce. I went through short affair with a turbo Miata just to keep it in the family.

Now, finally, at 32 years old with an accidental
career in airline management, making $60k a year (as of this writing) and a supportive future wife, I bought a 1994 RX7!

I decided to go with a nearly complete rolling shell with a clean title. I'm going back to white, with the black/tan interior I've always wanted.

Here are a few pics at the sellers home. I'm a Floridian in Austin Texas. Picked him up for $5k.

Stay tuned.

Looks like you've got a nice starting point.

What are your goals for performance, looks, amd color?

I'm assuming the Reamemiya kit from Season 4/5 only because of your thread name and because I wish I could build one myself :)

Good luck!

Thank you! Plans are still developing. But I'm going to go back to all white, complete the interior with black/tan, stay rotary (obviously). Haven't started looking at rebuild shops yet. I'm not sure about body kits. Keeping he pop-up headlights. I'm a fan of front lips. Dark tint, and deep-dish wheels. Perhaps some kind of oversized Tesla-like touchscreen display. Rear seats maybe for the dog, haven't decided about air-conditioning. Upgraded engine cooling.

A turbo motor is the best use of a student loan (besides beer that is).

Looks like you have your hands full on the build BTW.

Well this will be interesting , best luck :icon_tup:

Thank you sir :) Missing door panels and the cluster arch. I can live without those. Engine and transmission I need. I've got to select a shop.

I'm in San Antonio. I have not ran either on of them, they came with the two motors that I bought. I was thinking about dropping one (the "99 spec") of the in when I put in my new motor. So if you are interested in the one that is currently installed and running I might be inclined to sell that one.

I traded away my Shine Auto Burnout fenders for stock white ones. I bought headlight covers for $100 for the pair, and I'm still trying to find the right motor. Im picking up a transmission and mount for $175 today as well. Piece by piece...

Dear diary, today I bought a shit load of pieces that I'm told make up a motor with accessories! I drove 5 hours to almost Mexico and back with my GF and dog. We only got stopped once by boarder patrol at a check point, lol. I'm excited to get to work. One of the housings looks like it might not be salvageable but we'll see. I've have to find a shop to resurface them or mail them to Goopy. The eBay churbo feels like it might run a little while.

In addition to a full motor, I also now have extra of trans, hood, front fenders, and front bumper. I hope to recoup some cost. I also got an Apexi Power FC, and what I'm told is an old Innovate wideband.

All in all $1,500 plus gas, food, and time. At this time in 2017 that's a good price.

The current plan is to have it driving around town by my birthday, October 1st.

Nice pile!

Make sure when you put it back together it looks like this...

and not this....

MastrChase 04-30-17 12:15 AM

If my engine looked like that.....I'm pretty sure Id be at all the car shows! Though I might have to push it there. Lol.

So digging into my "pile" a bit more it looks like I have Rotary Aviation "Super Seals". I've decided to go with E&J apex seals, and have Goopy resurface my housings. I think I may have to replace one of the housings though. I'm waiting to here back. I think I'm gong to sell the Power FC with commander and old Innovate wideband, the set of stock front fenders, the hood, front bumper, and one of the transmissions. That should finance the resurfacing and seals.

MastrChase 05-09-17 08:12 AM

Update: I've packed up my housings and have mailed them off to Goopy for resurfacing. Hopefully they're both good. I'm expecting one of them to be trash. Maybe I'll make art out of it. After I get the housings back I'll buy the Apex seals.

kensin 05-14-17 08:07 PM

has the front bumper been cut to fit a front mount ?just curious

Got my housings back from Goopy! They were able to SAVE BOTH HOUSINGS! Saved ~$400! They look great! They say they'll make at least 100 compression, though they aren't perfect. There are still a few shallow gauges and some chips on one of the exhaust ports which is in the pic with the single housing. They even sanded off the hideous orange paint! Bonus: they sent promo stickers, flyers, and few small 8x11 posters.

Next I need to sell my body.....panels for cash to buy the E&J apex seals. I'm trying to keep the money I've spend on the FD turning around to make more money to at least finish the engine.

So far I've spent $5,000 shell + $1,500 for storage unit of parts, -$365 Goopy housings refurb and rotor repair kit, + $575 sold Apexi PowerFC and commander = $6,710 total spent.
