My RX-7 Adventure.

I have been wanting to start a build thread for a while but have been distracted lately and have forgotten to take pictures of what I have already done so I have been a little discouraged but I figure I might as well do one because hey, it will give me something to look back on in the future when its finally done.

I want to start by saying that my first car was a 83 RX-7 and I loved that car. The only problem was that someone had already made it there own and that made me want to move on to a stock FD. The FD had been my dream car since I was a kid, always what I chose to race in video games and in the arcade when they were there. So I checked every once and a while for a stock FD to show up and then I found a decent one for 6000. And thats where it all started.

The guy who sold it to me couldn't get it air cared and had no idea why. It turns out he was getting ripped off at a shop but since I didn't need to worry about air care where I live it was an easy deal. The reason was a broken cat converter that he must have bottomed out because the dent isn't small lol.

Sadly right when I was on the hunt to replace the exhaust the clutch died on me, and a hood light cover flew off all in the same trip. Due to lack of funds the car sat for 8 months and I just got it back on the road a few months ago. Since then both turbos have died, the power steering pump has gone, another headlight cover flew off and I still need to replace the mid pipe.

Today was my first DIY oil and oil filter change and I replaced the hood latch cord since the last one broke and I had to chip my paint and but some dents in my bumper to get the thing open once again.

Oh and someone decided to break into my car to steal a 2nd generation iPod nano that only worked while plugged into the charger so now I have to replace my window ughhh (Thank goodness for underground parking lol)

I already have a pair of stock twins to replace the broken ones I'm just looking for some gaskets for them. Its good timing to because my gf will be out of country for a month so I can use her car while I begin the adventure of installing my new turbos.

I will go threw my pictures and see what I have to post from the past.
Would love to hear what people have to say and any advice that you have to give

I don't know how many times I have thought about selling my car....
The problem is that every time I get in it and drive it tho I realize that nothing compares to the fun that I have while I drive my FD

This is what she looked like when I got her home for the first time (Still haven't found a good name for my car)

She was good to me until my trip up island where my headlight cover flew off on the way up and then my clutch died on the way back down at 3 am in the morning with 2 passengers so we had to wait till the morning for a tow truck that could carry that many people. When we got back she sat in a driveway and on the road insured for 8 months with this sad face.

When I finally got some extra cash together I got someone to install the clutch for me since I didn't have the tools nor the time. The fun part was getting the car there tho because I didn't want to pay for a tow truck so instead I rented a truck and a car trailer and got the neighbours to come out and help push her up onto the trailer. (that was interesting)

Oh I totally forgot that the power steering pump had killed itself before the trip where my clutch died, that was an interesting time driving into a drive threw when all of a sudden steering became a lot harder lol.

Once I got the clutch fixed I ordered a new headlight cover and the car was running and happy once again!

Thats when I forgot to put the E-Brake on I guess and my car rolled into a wall breaking the old headlight cover off and tearing a piece of my front lip off.

Soon after that the brakes went on me and it turned out to be a broken Vacuum line

That was when I noticed that my turbos were dead and leaking oil making a lovely smell and beautiful smoke that turns heads when your at a red light on the road. I stopped driving the car for a while because I could use my girlfriends car with the schedule i had at work. In this time someone decided to break into my car and steal an old iPod thats not even worth the window nor time.

Thats been my adventure so far!
Finally took some time out of the day for my car and realized how much I want to fix it so heres some photos of the exhaust that I need to replace and my oh so dirty engine bay.

Main Cat Converter (Been like that since i bought it)

Down Pipe I bent coming out of a underground parking lot

and last but not least my engine bay (13b twin turbo not ported)

First off congrats on your purchase!

It's sounds like you don't have an abundance of cash to throw at the car when something goes wrong. The sad truth is these cars are a money pits. So do only reliability mods and try to stay away from the mod bug. If you stay relatively stock the reliability isn't bad. But keep in mind that your biggest killer is age of components so when you fix something, fix it right and don't cheap out (as many owner's sometimes do).

Not much is cheap with these cars.... These cars are a pain in the *** but also extremely rewarding.

Edit-
Plug that big hole going in your IC duct and get Adam’s C cheap bastard intake. Or get that piece that connects the intake to the IC duct. Because right now you have the worst of both worlds- not feeding air into the intake and the same time have a big hole in your duct…

Your AST is a green… Green = bad- notice all other plastic pieces are black … If it bursts and you don’t catch it in time it could cost you an engine. Don’t bother getting an aftermarket one IMO it’s just better to delete it all together.

Thanks!
Other than replacing the lip and headlight cover I don't plan on doing anything visual for a long time. I want to get it mechanically sound before I put any money into looks lol. The engine bay picture is actually when I finally got the hood open after the hood latch broke. I put the stock connector back on but i need to replace a bolt because I don't think its the original so its loose.

Im going to take my car into a shop and see what I need to fix and see if maybe just buying a rebuilt engine is the way to go.

If the compression is good on the engine there isn't a need to replace.
