I may look into a qr, i've never had one. I dont mind the Vios for driving comfort it just sucks getting in and out over the bolster as you mention. Removing the cage helped a good bit.

I would have loved the FEED AST but at twice the price and not being sure about fittings, assume i'd need an aftermarket aluminum radiator to tap for the fittings? Hard to swallow. RE-Amemiya is a decent piece, but as you say the polishing, and the welding could look better but my engine bay is far from perfect as is. I'll look at replacing the lines later.

Thanks for the kind words. I'm enjoying working on the car.

I love my QR, my car would be unbearable without it.

Don't get e wrong, I am not knocking the RE Amemiya AST - I have one myself, the FEED one is a stupid price and is probably a PITA without their radiator/intercooler setup. As my coolant just got drained I am going to either powdercoat or polish my AST. It's funny because my Cusco catch can (which was cheap) came polished beautifully. I just wish RE took a tiny bit more time to finish their products. I was also very disappointed with the polished finish on their V Mount kit when I got it, especially considering the huge premium they charge vs GReddy, hence all the powdercoat and custom fab work I had done.

Glad to hear you are enjoying the car especially during the "what else do I need to fix" phase

No I get it. Good parts, great innovation but attention to details could be a little better.

I forget where I found out about this but today I got a blox jdm-usdm license plate adapter. One side of my tag was being held on by a zip tie so this was needed.

I have been having an issue with the car dying while dropping to idle after being under load. Looking through my power fc, it appears to be locked (probably by FEED) as most values are zero’d out. I just purchased a datalogit which will hopefully allow me to unlock it and look into the tune and idle issue. Not the first thing id like to spend my money on at the moment but drivability is #1 so eventually ill get to replacing the interior and body work.

Idle issue when coming to a stop was just fixed. Clutch switch.

I had read about this before so I looked under the dash and operated the pedal, could see the plunger moving so figured all was well. This morning I went into the power fc switch/sensor check and found the clutch switch was not coming up. Just got home and decided to remove it, to my untrained eye it still looked ok. I decided to pull it apart and do another search, the plunger wasnt sticking out far enough. I put a spring in from a pen, stuck it back together and plugged it in. Clutch switch is now showing in the power fc. Took it for a drive and man it is great to press the clutch pedal down and not have to tap the gas pedal or ease the throttle down.

If anyone sees this and is wondering, this is what your switch should look like with a good spring. Didnt think to take a before pic, it wasnt even sticking out half as much.

FC Datalogit arrived a few days ago. I ordered it without thinking about my laptop status... I only have a macbook that works at the moment lol. Will get that sorted soon.

Also purchased some idemitsu premix, a funnel and measuring bottle from mazda trix. My OMP is supposedly working but extra lube shouldn't hurt.

And thanks to a user here, I have a brand new set of FEED canards on the way for the front bumper. This should get me in gear to work on repairing the bumper and fender.

I need to make a decision on the rocker panel, either fix it right or modify some side skirts to fit with the feed fenders that would cover the damage. IMO the car needs skirts badly to go with the overall look of the car, not sure the feed style sides are what I want though (and they wont cover the dent).

NP on the canards! I also modified a pair of sideskirts to fit since I hated the weird gap on the fenders

Thank you again.

After about 1000km in my ownership, first break down. Lower heater hose split open on the way home from work. Split was too long to cut and slide so had to send the gf to auto zone and bring some hose to me. By the time I could pull off and shut it down the engine only got to about 100 C on the power fc so hopefully no internal damage.

Now I will replace all of the coolant hoses (as I should have done anyway). Have to figure out the heater hose situation with the car being RHD.

In case anyone else needs heater hose part numbers for RHD, here you go:

61-214 seems to be the same as the US, so that should be easy. now to find the other two.

Was able to order every single water hose under the hood from a mazda dealer online, with one exception. F100-61-211B, which is the heater hose that busted on me. I will continue the search for this hose, may have to find someone in Japan to send to me. The upper heater hose, F100-61-212A corresponds with a Mazda 929 heater hose so I was able to purchase that one. The rest of the hoses are the same as the USDM cars. Of course I threw in a new thermostat and o-ring as well. Will be looking into water pumps now.

Was able to order both heater hoses from nengun. We'll see how much of all this I actually get.

Radio was shutting down at higher volumes, changed the ground setup this morning. Afterwards I decided to remove the pinstripe. 3m eraser is totally worth it if you need to remove a pin stripe. This was in progress pics:

While going over the car yesterday I remembered my HKS filters were falling apart. I dunno why I didnt replace these sooner. I went on banzai’s website and ordered a pair with overnight shipping about 2pm yesterday. Couldnt believe they actually went out the same day. Great service

Small update, im a dumbass. Twice recently ive ordered stuff without double checking before doing so. I got the dual gauge pod in 52mm and my gauges are 60mm. It was quite expensive for a piece of plastic (though nice) so not sure where to go next, I may buy the correct one down the road. I removed the gauges before figuring this out. In the process the connector that is soldered to the board on one of the gauges broke off. Im gonna try to fix that at work today.

I received the IRP water pump, tstat and all coolant hoses from mazda. Going to pick up the final hoses from japan today, post office is holding them due to signature required. Hope to have everything swapped by the weekend.

Car looks good but I wouldve left the pin striping as only FEED cars do it and gives it a unique look. Car just needs carbon side sill skirts, front bumper canards, splitter and hood and would look fantastic. Keep up the good work.

The pinstripe is a craft company thing. I kinda liked it but kinda not. Im working on making it my own so not leaving it as is forever.

I got all the hoses and such changed the saturday after thanksgiving. Started the car and bled, looked for leaks etc. seems to be good. I left the next day and wont be back til this sunday so i havent driven it in almost 4 weeks, cant wait to get back.

Always nice to get a haul of shiny new parts! That's the upgraded IRP pump right, not electric?

Also I am very jealous of your ability to year round drive the car

Keep the updates coming!

Yea its the updated IRP pump. I let the car warm up and idle for a good bit yesterday to check everything over again after the cooling system overhaul, so far so good.

I also got in a bride tuning pad to cover my ripped vios bolster.

On black friday i bought the full lrb speed rear interior kit. Seat delete with a battery relocation and the side panels. It came in earlier this week and I had some matte black vinyl ready to go on. I got it all wrapped and threw a few pieces in to see what I was getting into. Battery tray is bolted in with riv nuts placed in the chassis and the rest is bolted together.

very happy with it so far. Will take some time to do the riv nuts and remove the rear seat belts but shooting for having it completed this weekend.

Ran into an issue with the bottom panel at the rear. I guess US FD’s or FD’s with factory bins atleast come with 3 studs on the floor between the strut towers. Mine has 2 holes in the floor and the holes dont match up with the pre drilled stuff. I drilled the new holes but as you can see theres a gap so ive gotta get some bigger spacers to pick that up and match them together.
