Took some of your advice to get the car in a better shape and appreciated stage where it's not heavily modified but reliability and longevity built. Thank you

Glad my thread can help you guys out! I've been taking a lot of advice on my build from the guys at synaptic3, they really know their ****. I'll do my best with status updates and pictures when I make some progress. I've been working on my snowmobiles recently so the FD has been on the back burner.

I used Eastwood high temp ceramic paint. Ordered it off their website. It's supposed to be good up to 650f. I haven't reinstalled my motor yet though so I can't say how well it works. Seems like a quality product though.

I guess I forgot to mention, I intern at synaptic 3 performance, who specialize in FD's. Safe to say they're big influence on this build, though i am doing the build at home on my own.

94vrotary- you have to get them directly from BBS. They're actually far cheaper than anywhere I could find. The FD hub size is 67.1 mm. Here's the contact email I have for ordering them. robert.way@bbs-usa.com

I decided against the aluminum pulleys. They're really not a necessity and the money can be spent better elsewhere.

Looking for a 3" resonated midpipe if anyone has one for sale.

Just ordered a set of dale Clark's viton check valves for the emmisions rack.
Need to order a new fuel pulsation dampener
I'll send my injectors out for cleaning once the motor is closer to being together, apparently its bad to let them sit after cleaning without use.

Brakes should be all back together this weekend. I can't wait to see them all done!

At this point I'm also going to hold off on a power fc. As I understand from reading, the factory fd ecu is more than sufficient for my intended modifications. The extra grand+ for the ecu and a tune really aren't worth a few HP right now.

I'm also swapping the FD 108*c thermoswitch to an fc 95*c thermoswitch. I will be changing the trans and diff oils to synthetics, likely redline amsoil or motul. Haven't made up my mind yet.

Nice work man! Where in NH are you? I'm in Bennington. My car's away for the winter. No garage here. Check out my build thread in the sig.

Thanks, im in Middleton, we must be pretty far apart, I don't have a clue where Bennington is. I almost bought those Wilwood brakes, but I didn't want to mess with parts availability with an old kit. I didn't think id have a garage to use but I lucked out.

Bennington is north of Peterborough, or about 50 min West of Manchester. Looks like you're about 2 hrs away from me.

In the process of replacing my FPD… taking WAY too long lol (all my fault as I hardly dedicate time to working in the garage). Let me know how it goes for you!

I think I will be eliminating the fpd entirely. Even if I replace it now, its a fire hazard again a few years down the road.

Lot's of parts from rock auto on the way!
New NGK plugs and wires
Brake caliper rebuild kits
Brake hardware kits
Fc thermoswitch
Shocks
A/C o ring kit
Sway bar links
Fuel filter
Throttle cable

Picked up a mint center console off the forum, now at least the interior is all accounted for!

I'll get some more work done on the car once the weather comes back to double digits outside

Finally got some more time in on the FD!
Its a damn good thing I picked up a spare set of s7 turbos, the hotside is completely eroded.
Not to mention the secondary control flapper? In the manifold is split in half. Its no wonder why the car didn't boost right.

Got the wiring harness all patched up and rewrapped, I'm very surprised the car ran as well as it did between all the broken connectors and sensors.
Pictures to come soon.

Ran a compression test to evaluate engine health, 100-110 psi front rotor and 110-120 rear. At least I have a healthy shortblock going for me!

dang, that manifold is toast. LMK if you need a new one. I think i have a useable one that i would sell for $25 plus shipping.

Looks like you been doing lots of research and what to buy and what to upgrade. I'm remember when i got first got my FD, i wanted to do everything. I've learned to take it slow and do the necessary stuff.

My FC was a real lesson for me, I wanted to and did modify just about everything on the car. Looked great, handled great, ran great, fast, but it was always chasing one headache after the other and not a lot of seat time.
Now I want a car that I can really enjoy. Hopefully I can hit the nail on the head without overdoing it

Nice work man this looks like a solid porject, looking forward to seeing this thing come togeather for you. Its funny, I find my self in a similar situation. I did the same with my rx8, turboing it and what not as well as modifying everything else. Now I find myself going in a similar direction on my REPU as you are with your FD build. All I want now is a reliable car to cruise in and do a couple track days each summer.

cheers

Thanks. I would love to build a repu, but there aren't any around me, and if they are, they're rotted. So I'll just have to stick with the FD for now, what a terrible fate!

Yes this thread and the other don't have much in common. You seem to have done some research and good work. I suggest not getting a midpipe at all. Leave the stock cat in place. You will not be able to control boost with a midpipe. I'd port the wastegate while the turbos are out or on your new set of turbos since these had bent fins. This will help with boost control for current mods and midpipe later. An intake, downpipe and catback at 10psi on stock ecu is great. when you get a pfc and find a trusted tuner you can install the midpipe the day of the tune and also raise the boost to the highest level your fuel system can handle. 13-14 seems to be a good number because the turbos can take it, don't need to upgrade the map sensor, pump gas is fine, and I think the stock fuel system might be adequate. If not I think the fuel pump may be the weak link and a supra Tt pump is a direct replacement can be done in half hour. You can even use a supra intercooler or npr if you're on a budget. I'm not sure if stock is ok at that level, I was at 12 w stock IC, you'll have to check. You'll be at around 320 rwhp and in the mid 12s at 113ish mph with only a couple thousand in mods and tune, not bad. After that the next upgrade to single turbo is a huge process - need a single turbo kit and fuel system and real intercooler which will come out to be pricey. There's always more cost than you budget for. This typically makes the car a true weekend car only, scary to drive and such it's a big move From the mild and fun power of the twins. stay with them for a while.
definitely get that pop off valve now since you're modding. It's a manual valve that opens under a set pressure, there's no way to overboost with it. I don't know why it isn't talked about or used by anyone here. I came up with the idea after blowing a couple motors due to overboost and never wanting to deal with the problem again.

From what I've discussed with the guys at synaptic3, my planned exhaust system shouldn't cause boost creep with ported wastegates especially with the factory airbox. However, should they be incorrect, I will toss a restrictor plate in the system.

I do have an ARC upgraded stock mount intercooler I will be using, but I plan on staying at stock boost for now anyways.

I will very likely persue a pop off valve as you suggested, it sounds like a no brainer.

I have no big power goals with this car, once everything is right and reliable I will be happy.

My FC on the other hand should have everything it needs to put down a solid 400whp with a good tune ..and a complete rewiring of the entire car haha
