Damn, wish I would have saw this post earlier. It seemed like there were a ton of rotary guys at FD ATL, which was awesome! My car was at the NRG booth in the vendor area.

I was there as well. I saw you walking down the hill, heading across the rocks towards a spot to sit Monster. I didn't wanna fangirlscream since we haven't officially met. Mohan and Madmike were robbed IMO.

Carbon wrapped the bubble tech canards, test fitted the driver's side. Just finished 2k clearing the vinyl wrap to give it some depth and gloss. (will post again) Just needs a quick cut with 2000 and buff to bring out the gloss and pieces should be installed tonight permanently.
Very impressed with the accuracy of the design by Benny at Bubbletech. Although its extremely aggressive, these pieces make up for the lack of aggressiveness of the 99 bumper against the feed kit. I personally dislike all aftermarket bumpers for the RX7 But a 99 spec, with some added edges to match the rear wing and the flat edges of the front/rear fenders sits with my eye.
I like the canards. Pretty aggressive, but a turbo p-port 4 rotor is not exactly a low profile car.
I hate how when you have aggressive fitment or wide fenders how the front of the tire sticks out past the lower bumper. Canards do cover this.
Wide front fenders should come with wide front bumper or add-ons.
Lower front bumper add-ons should be available for those of us with aggressive fitments on stock fenders.

I tell you, there is a place in my heart for a smooth quiet side port turbo 4 rotor (more like Scoot 4 rotor concept) putting out an easy 1,000hp in a stock body FD and it is a smart, sneaky, sexy neck-snapper not cowardly...
An FD with this much power/lightness is going to need all the downforce it can get to make it driveable at speed.
I would suggest using something more aggressive than the stock 99-spec lip, even if it keeps the same basic profile. That, or just keep the front end nice and low...
mounted the canards with rivents and stainless hardware. The clear coat came out great. Darkened the pieces to nearly black, with a hint of carbon weave. With the mazda emblem installed and turn signals, it really looks purposeful.
There's something about add-ons like this vs replacing the whole bumper. Its hard to put it into words, but I can't wait to show you guys, you'll see what I mean!! I've got tools and stuff everywhere, no sleep, no time, but soon will push it out for some real pics. I've switched up rear diffuser direction, may wait on that before final pics.
From my perspective, I see a stock rx7 which is the gloss black of the body. The 99 bumper which is gloss etc. Then the rear wing, side steps, riveted on flares, and canards look as if they are add-on's which were only installed out of necessity/functionality. Comparatively, an rx7 with aftermarket front/rear bumpers, or integrated sideskirts/molded flares, starts to look less like an rx7 and more like something else. Not a bad thing, just a comparison. Like tailight spoiler for example, installed the Car Shop Glow version, only to realize that it serves no real function for me and was a little to much on the looks, unfortunately will need to sell it I know, my brain works strangely.
Mounted the street style diffuser, after painting it, only to conclude that its not aggressive enough to match the front end now So, selling that a good friend from Indiana, who's coming through in a few weeks to scoop it up.
The pro-style diffuser will be installed in semi-gloss black, keeping it clean and simple as possible, going to run it without the center diverters or side pieces.
The overall idea is stretch the rx7 into a widebody, but make it as minimal as possible, only out of necessity for traction and down-force. The crazier it gets the more I miss the last car
Anyhow here's a 4 month recap since the bodywork began on Jan 10th:
1. front apron damage repaired
2. body stripped to bare frame, mounted on rotisserie, restored etc
3. interior gutted, roll cage installed / painted
4. CF interior panels + dash design worked up, pedals installed, brake booster, abs deleted, etc
5. wide body and paint, cut and initial polish
6. subframes, suspension components painted, gas tank cleaned, transmission painted, powerplant frame etc
7. brake calipers replaced
8. differential installed
9. coilovers installed
10. chassis wiring, dash wiring, battery, fuse boxes, etc
11. wheels / tires
12. intercooler water exchangers, water cell/pump installed and wired
13. fuel tank, lift pump, fuelab pump, surge tank installed and wired
Starting to get closer!
From here:
-fittings ordered for fuel delivery (trunk portion), should knock this out in next 2 weeks, all of the lines to/from surge tank, fuel filter etc
-brackets finished for Ignition Coils, and 8x coils ordered, to be installed shortly
-interior side of water cell/intercooler pump lines need to be installed
-start making measurements for engine wiring harness
-install doors/mirrors (will likely do that when the car is running/complete)
There's literally nothing else I can think of after this besides wait for engine!
Looking amazing dude, the canards make a great improvement on the aggressive side as the 99 spec bumper is a little to laid back. Keep up the great work!!!
Well guys, been working on the -AN lines for the surge, fuel, and heat exchanger system. Then off to bleed the brakes. Can't honestly think of anything else to do, the car's about done.
Thinking about pushing it out into the street and cleaning it up from some pics just for you guys. But at this point its just a wait.
Its a little frustrating to have pushed so hard to arrive at a waiting point, but its better to be ahead then behind. Hopefully will hear something about the engine soon. Would be cool to have this project up and running by end of summer or early fall before its cold, but we'll just have to wait and see.
