^^ I personally don't like the creased look of thinner heat shield materials but from a function over form perspective they are ok I guess.

^^ Me too

Some pics from today. We started making the exhaust system. I was fed up with the exhaust shop continuously postponing my appointment for weeks and weeks so instead of having a custom muffler with dual tips made I decided to keep my HKS Hi Power (aka police magnet). The system is like this:

3.5" downpipe ------> 3" resonated midpipe -------> HKS Hi Power muffler

Some more progress pics:

Exhaust system is finished. I am happy with everything except the HKS muffler. I was never keen to put it back on but did anyway not to delay the project any longer. Once the car is back on the road, first opportunity I get I will replace it with a better looking (not canister style) muffler because....

....

Dual Tial MVR 44mm wastegates. I wanted slash cut dump pipes placed parallel but due to limited space we had to place dump pipes in separate spots. No big deal.

Downpipe and part of midpipe covered in heat wrap.

Instead of oem fuel filter I'm using an aftermarket easy to replace fuel filter

Still testing tyre sizes. I narrowed it down to 3 combinations:

F: 245/35/18 R: 255/35/18 little stretch on both f and r, no rubbing, maybe spacers, front is a touch shorter
F: 255/35/18 R: 255/35/18 little streth on rears, maybe spacers, same size tyres to keep oem balance
F: 255/35/18 R: 285/30/18 no stretch, no spacers, rear fender roll definitely needed, fattest looking

Btw wheels are F: 18x9.5 +38 R: 18x10 +38

It's about time I updated this thread.

Red seatbelts are on:

Custom panel for maxidisplay. There are 3 leds. Red one is warning light, blue one is the shiftlight and the green one is for aem water/meth injection.

AEM water/meth kit is installed. Once the car is running I will have a tray designed to cover the spare tyre hole and have a custom boot carpet made so only half of the meth tank will be visible.

Pineapple Racing idler pulley:

Sakebomb Garage map sensor bracket and adapter:

Greddy elbow and the turbo hose were touching the strut brace so we had to raise the strut brace a little by adding homemade spacers:

Custom adapter plate for oil temp sensor:

Intercooler piping is done. Not much left in the engine bay really, except the HKS air filter.

Looks like you've been busy! The start-up date has to be within reach now? I'm curious as to what the dump pipes will sound like, videos please?

(btw I like the red seatbelts )

Thanks Eric. Yeah we will start it up in the next few days but I have to do the break in before I can record any wild wastegate videos. The seatbelts turned out ok imo.

Had to trim the rebar for 99spec bumper:

Custom AST tank:

Trying to avoid the cluttered interior look, it's a difficult task as there is not enough room in the RX7. I decided to hide the boost controller and the aem meth/water controller in the glovebox . Power FC hand controller is going in the centre console where the ashtray is. The ashtray was good to keep the coins but what can I do...

She's alive!!! Started at first crank, smooth as silk (lots of white smoke though, turned the workshop into a nightclub). Started again for the 2nd time but didn't start at 3rd try Looks like we have no spark. No idea why. We are checking everything, igniters, hks twin power, spark plugs, ignition cables etc. I might start a thread about this.

Meanwhile finally got my tyres. Pirelli P-Zero 255/35/18 (F) and 265/35/18 (R). They have a rounded side profile which I like.

Very nice build. Please coat the turbine housing though, or get a turbo blanket. Everything else is so fresh and clean, that turbine housing will rust in no time and stick out compared to everything else. That has always been a pet peeve of mine lol, very nice car

Thank you. I got the shortest possible manifold for better response but the negative side is it is a tight fit and the exhaust housing is almost touching the intake manifold. There are no coating services here and I don't think a turbo blanket will fit but I will still try to make one fit...

Just use a high temp paint. I use VHT flameproof 2000° paint. It comes in many colors also. I usually paint the hotside and run a turbo blanket

Thanks XLR8!

I don't like the rpf1 wheel caps so I bought some generic caps and had custom stickers made. Design is made by our forum member Tayfun-Bathurst

It’s about time I updated this thread. There has been so many dilemmas along the way I forgot what parts I purchased recently or what changes we have made but anyway here is what’s been happening.

We had ignition problems which was fixed by new coils and igniter. The engine was idling high (as you can see in the video) which is fixed but still not super smooth, probably ecu tuning related.

After I had ignition problems I ordered new spark plug wires from Sakebomb Garage and I am also getting NGK race spark plugs (heat range 10) this week.

I didn’t want to cut the oem carpet around the meth tank so I got a new carpet and insulation material. Forgot to take the photo of the carpet though, will post later. I also didn’t want to cut the oem spare tyre tray so I got a new one made which goes around the meth tank.

The car has been in the workshop for more than a year and during this time it got few scratches, most people wouldn’t mind it but being a bit OCD, I decided to have it fully re-painted instead of just painting the front bumper and other new parts. So that's next once the minor bugs are fixed (idle, tune, bleeding the brakes etc.).
