Hey Trey! Yes on the timing. Although there is no rush at this point I'd like to get it back before fall semester starts in August. I think that is very doable.

 

No big updates as I am waiting on the v-mount and turbo/exhaust fab work to be completed.

Thought I'd share my newest "upgrade", compliments of the state of North Carolina:

Sweet tag....looks like you don't have much competition on the plates in N Carolina like you do in FL!

 

Big difference than FL. In NC, all my options were available, including "3 ROTOR", "1BAD20B", and the one I had in FL, "1BADRRR". To use any of those, though, I had to go with the standard NC plate and I wanted the Auburn University one. Specialty plates here limit you to 4 characters only, hence the "20B".

Saw a guy in AL that did "00:01" on his plate and I love that but you have to be an Auburn or Alabama fan to appreciate it.

 

I had 3 Rotor but turned it in when i sold my last 20b car lol

Long awaited update on the car. Car is now back from Gato were it had a bunch of fabrication work done.

SS tubro manifold fabricated and installed on car. Really nice work with matching length runners. Will be ceramic coated to hold in heat. Still needs a bung for the turbo back pressure sensor which will be installed pre-wastegate.

Exhaust system completely reworked to open it up a bit. Added in v-band clamps and then a larger high flow cat to control the rotary "stink" so we shall see if this one holds up. The car dumps to atmosphere under WOT so maybe it will work. Will also be ceramic coated.

V-mount work pretty much done. 4.5 inch core used on the intercooler which is rated at 750 WHP rotary. Koyo n-flo radiator modified for v-mount use with stock twin fans and shroud installed. Ducting added to the sides to direct airflow into the v-mount unit. Still needs to be tweaked on the right side and then the back to ensure air doesn't get around it. Kilo is using the opening on the left of the v-mount for air into the turbo. New coolant fill assembly made to accommodate the v-mount.

Needs the AIT sensor bung and meth injection system nozzle installed on the piping and once everything is tweaked and finalized, all of it will get coated in a black ceramic thermal "dispersant" to help control temps.

Kilo can now get back to work on the wiring of the car as that had some issues so it's all being redone. Kilo is also focusing on the aesthetics of the engine bay with a goal of hiding as much of the wiring and fuse/relay box stuff as possible. As Kilo says, "we shall see".

Oil coolers being flipped to swap the inlets and outlets to the top versus the previous bottom configuration (too close to the ground for my liking).

Then it's on to firing up the engine, breaking it in, and then tuning. Sure I am missing something...

Car is looking good David. That 4.5 inch core should cool very well. So, are you planning to fab up some type of cold air intake that goes past the passenger side of the cooler and feeds from the mouth of the car, or are you going to run open intake with a screen? Also, make sure they take care to shroud and duct everything to force as much air as possible through the IC and rad. Progress looks good.

 

Haha crazy but I believe I saw that samurai for sale a couple years ago unless rotary swapped samurai are a common thing haha

 

Really nice work on the install!! Your stating an intercooler good for 750 whp, but your setup seems it can easily surpass that powa!

May I know what is the core size of the radiator? Is it the standard n flow koyo rad? My understanding is that now you have stock fans underneath the radiator, does it mean you can no longer have the undertray in there? It would be nice if I can see a picture of the setup under the car? Also the IC piping is 3 inch? Cause in the picture it seems bigger!

The horsepower rating for intercoolers are for piston power. Just an FYI. Otherwise looks sexy.

Thanks Tim. Kilo is not quite sure what he wants to do with getting air to the turbo. There is enough room to run a filter and I don't want to just put a mesh over the turbo intake. I personally like the idea of fabbing up a cold air intake but Kilo usually goes the "keep it simple" route so we shall see.

We discussed ensuring the shrouding and ducting is done as best it can be to force all the air through the v-mount. As it currently is, this is not quite the case. Gato is going to have to bend some of the shroud materials with a bender as its pretty thick stuff.

I'd guess there aren't too many of those around. This one is show car ready and very well done. It's been entirely redone and the underside of the car is as nice as what is above.

Hey Andrew. Good to hear from you. The radiator is the standard Koyo n-flo unit. It appears to be the largest that will fit and it is snug for sure. With the fans down there, I don't think you can run an under tray. We had taken mine off anyway as it increased the temps on the car. We did back to back runs out on the road at different speeds with the under tray causing temps to go up around 5 degrees celsius across the board.

I'll try to get some pics of the underside of the car but I'll have to rely on Kilo for that until I get the car back. He's not the best with the camera. Finally, I think the IC piping is 3 inches but I didn't ask.

Thanks The 750 I posted was for a rotary. It's supposedly a 1,000 WHP unit so we calculated back for the 3 rotor. Think this is conservative but I'm not planning on doing any more than that anyway.

 

I'm gonna start saving up for a trip to deals gap next year I hope it will be ready by then I'd love to see it in person hear it and see it dissapear into the horizon haha

 

^ You and me both. The car has been down for almost 1.5 years and I am really looking forward to getting it back. I drive out close to the Tail of the Dragon twice a week to teach and I'd really like to take the car. Been driving the wife's Miata but it's just not the same.

 

Car is looking great David. We definitely need to set up some sort of get together in the spring, as it seems like most of the 20b cars are being completed. Love the wheels as well.

 

^ Yes they are! Would love to do the Fd testing thing again around the time of DGR next year. DGR is something I've really been wanting to go to. Plus that should give me enough time to install that T56 I picked up recently.

 

^ I agree we should do something. Waiting on my car to be back together and running before moving forward with getting something set up. The VIR testing event is something I'd love to do again so we shall see. I don't want to negatively impact DGRR so we'd need to be careful about that.

As for DGRR, that is a nice event and I'd love to see you there as it's literally in my back yard. Wish DGRR could be combined with a track event close by but there isn't one of a good caliber around. We will figure something out and make it happen.

 

Oh I definitely understand that. I just remember the last VIR event being on a Monday because I think Gordon was able to reserve the track cheaper on that day? So it being scheduled after DGRR would be awesome with so many fd's already in the area. A double event reminds me of the Optimal Ultimate Street Car Challenge. All those competing car are displayed at the Sema show in Vegas. That Saturday, they would then convoy to the Motor Speed Way for the event finale. This could be our Rx7 version of such event.

 

^ I like the idea and this is what a member had suggested last year I believe. Seems to me it could enhance the total experience. Didn't sit well with the DGRR guys though.

In any event, we will figure out something. Now let's get those 3 rotors on the road
