Kilo Racing 3 Rotor FD Conversion

David,
Regarding the charging issue, I was faced with the same thing a few years ago when I had to store my car. Do they have an incandescent light in the garage? If so, grab an adapter from Home Depot that will allow you to plug a trickle charger into the light socket.

I have the X2-30LA. It has 400 CCA and I've had zero issues with it starting my LS1.
Kinda off topic, but I got the new turbo setup and cooling system road worthy about a week ago.
Everything is working pretty well so far. I drove the car to Daytona for Rod Run over the weekend.

Been extremely busy the last two months as I am teaching entrepreneurship full-time at a university. Thankfully, the semester is winding down this week and I will have a bit of a breather then.
I don't have much progress to report on the v-mount setup as I most likely have a turbo sponsorship for one of the new billet style units and Kilo has been waiting on this info to fab up the system. Have been working with the company to properly size the new turbo which should be done this week. What I originally thought would work turns out to be the wrong solution so I am glad I've taken the time to get the help needed. Once I nail this down, it's full steam ahead, once I get the new turbo in that is

Unfortunately no light socket in the storage unit so I'm pretty much SOL on this.
Good to hear and nice car

Tis the time of the year to make whatever changes you can. LOL!

^ sorry about that. The car is still down at Kilo Racing waiting on the turbo decision and then v mount fab work. I looked for pics and don't seem to have any.
I'll need to get the car back and promise to take some pics for you but it will be about two months I think.

Let's Get This Party Started!
Finally, an update. Was waiting on a turbo sponsorship to come through and it just did. Borg Warner has graciously offered to sponsor the car and has provided an EFR 9180, one of their billet wheel turbos. The EFR series features:
- Low Inertia Turbine Wheel
- Dual Ceramic Ball Bearings
- Flexible Compressor Cover
- Forged Milled Compressor Wheels (FMW)
- High Flow Wastegates
- Ease of Orientation
Here are details on the EFR series:
http://www.3k-warner.de/files/pdf/ef...nical_data.pdf
The 9180 is the largest of the EFR turbos and supports up to 1,000 HP. My understanding on the rotary is the 9180 turbo will make less than that, which is fine with me as I am happy in the 700 WHP range. I'm most interested in seeing how the spool up is with the billet wheel compared to my former turbo, the Precision T78 bb unit.
So, the turbo gets in on Tuesday and then it's off to the races with fabrication work on the v-mount setup. Once this is done, then the car needs its wiring completed, the engine needs to be broken in, and then the car tuned. I'm sure I am leaving out some miscellaneous stuff but am hoping everything is sorted out by the end of March or early April.
On the other good news side, I was able to secure a storage unit that has electricity so I will now be able to trickle charge the battery and work on the car, at least the stuff I can do
Finally, the thread now has over 500,000 views, making it to my knowledge the most viewed individual thread on the forum. Thanks for the interest and help over the years. I truly appreciate it and hope to have a really nice conclusion (to this phase) soon.
Will keep you posted with progress.

David you and I both know that built rotarys, and concluded builds never happen. LOL! Congrats on the views. You think it will be finished before DGRR? I've been slowly tinkering with the small issues that kept my own project from making Sevenstock last year that way I can make it over their FINALLY. : )

David I don't think the EFR 9180 is going to do what you want. Yes it will spool quick but the top-end may be lacking. The turbo doesn't have the right size/flow to feed a ported 20b.
Based on the compressor map, you'll have to max the turbo at 43 psi to hit over 700 rwhp.

Would love to see you there and check out your car. Looks really nice BTW.

Haha
New lithium battery that appears to hold much better than what I tried.
It was custom built by a friend of mine in cyprus. Weighs 2.1 kg and dimensions are 18 cm x18cm x 4cm
There are also other versions with 8 cells for more load

Marco, I'm no turbo expert for sure, but I've had this spec'd out by several turbo specialists, including the person who designs the EFR line at Borg Warner. As an aside, Borg Warner has a rotary race team so they have some knowledge of rotary flow rates. Anyway, there are two versions of the 9180, one with a T3 frame, .83 A/R, and internal waste gates and the one I got, the one with a T4 frame, 1.05 A/R, and an external waste gate. The general consensus agrees with you on the T3 frame model, that it will not flow near enough for a ported 20B and the best I would see would be around 550 WHP at 20 PSI. However, it is felt the T4 frame unit will work well and achieve the levels of HP I'd like to make. We shall see I guess and I'll certainly post the results. Heck, you know how it is with the 20B, I'd be very happy to be in the 550 - 600 WHP range with great spool up as that's about all the car I can handle anyway. I've never yet tracked the car at the high boost setting. Want a nice dyno sheet though for bragging rights For comparison, my Precision unit was a T78 bb with a 1.05 A/R.

Look forward to results either way, I've been begging people to go 9180 on a 13b for a long time as I'm curios how it will perform so this will work just the same. My calculations should be pretty close to reality though, I haven't had them fail me yet. They were spot on for my 20b also, I got the power I was expecting where I was expecting it.
I'd expect the 9180 to come on a lot sooner then 3,800 RPM. My GTX4202R hits 16 psi @ 4,000 RPM, less in higher gears. But then again you have that 3" exhaust don't you?

Hah! That's why I stated for this "phase" of the build as it never seems to end. That's the plan Trey, shooting for everything back together by the beginning of April so I can take it to DGRR. Would love to hang out with you. What's the status with you? Got that engine running the way you'd like? Saw the seats you got, they look really nice.
David, I've been working on the house still and haven't started the car since November. I promised myself I would finish the house before fully working on the car again (as it's a major priority). House will finally be done the end of this month. I had all kinds of little quirky issues after putting the car back together. The head lights wouldn't work, the engine wouldn't start, my fuel swirl pot was leaking, and finally I had a major coolant leak on the water pump. Plus one of my injectors on my PP's failed (and it was brand new). All those little things kept me from making Sevenstock last year. All the above have been corrected so I just need to get it back on the road for more testing and finish some more cosmetic stuff. So far the engine revs alot faster than before.

David almost was in that ultimate street car challenge and has other sponsorships I believe. You'll be surprised how willing the higher end parts companies are to deal with, give them a call. I got a very good deal on a transmission package for my project because they knew my car.

I'm glad to hear the ball is rolling again. 500-600rw in these cars is a lot of fun. That's probably around what mine makes the majority of the time when i'm cruising around. it's easy to turn up with a button when/if you need it. When do we get to see pics of the new shiny parts?
I've had mine on the road now for close to three months and have been driving it 1-2 times a week (weather permitting). It's nice to be to the point of working on the small stuff for a change. I really wish I picked up the tig torch long before I did! I put the car on the dyno a few weeks ago. It made 755rw/713tq on 93 octane @ 16psi still spinning on the dyno. more than I was expecting! I put a new set of colder plugs in and now have high boost set at 18psi. ...not sure what it's making bit feels peppy.
Are you planning to bring the car back to Jacksonville or take it NC? I'd definitely like to check it out.

755/(16+14.5)*(18+14.5) = ~804, not bad
+1 for wanting to know where you are going to keep her would be cool to meet up again. Been 3 or 4 years since I've seen your car, mine was a heckuva lot slower back then.
