For many of us, the power we have now, gets old and we find ourselves craving more. Especially if what we're use to now, is what we drive everyday. Even if it isn't usable on the street, there's the rush.

 

After driving Carlisi's beast, I was pretty much floored by the difference that extra rotor can make........I want one

 

The 20B is definitely different because of the extra torque that is available so the car really launches with ease. From my "spirited drives" over the past two days, I really can't control the car if I use more than 40% throttle. The wheels break loose in all the gears I've tried (1-4). Haven't done this in 5th gear as I am a little afraid of romping on the car at that speed.

It is a lot of fun though. Left my condo building the other day, turned left and hit the throttle a bit. Did some very nice drifting action Found a good back road (off of 9A for those of you in Jax) and went through gears 1-4 and found that anything over 40% the wheels would start to break loose. I'm also running 12 inch rear tires so that is pretty impressive. If you slowly roll into the throttle you can use the power without spinning the wheels but it is not as fun

This is at 525 WHP and 14 PSI at 6,800 RPMs. I would think if we ran the dyno all the way up to redline, this would equate to 550-560 WHP but maybe someone can look at the dyno I posted and extrapolate the info. It's a straight line up so it shouldn't be too difficult.

I will someday turn up the boost a bit but only to dyno the car so I can have bragging rights. After a few driving lessons maybe I can use the power but not now.

Come to the Mazda Drivers HPDE event at VIR 13-14 June (or the 30-31 August event) and let other Mazda owner see that incredible car. You may even want to enter the event and have one of their great instructors help you with car control. VIR is an amazing track with lots of runoff area.

If your car isn't a daily driver, you should seriously consider replacing your tires with R-compound tires. The difference in grip could help with your traction issues. Probably won't solve them but should help a bit. Best of luck.

 

it is a daily driver. The current tires are Michelin Pilot Sport IIs so they are pretty good.

 

David, you might want to look into the Michelin PS2s, I am ordering a set for my Fikses that are on order and I've heard rave reviews about the PS2s. Lots of good info on them on the tire rack site, they're a true street tire but very sticky

If using the OEM wheel sensors, we can build traction control.
my AEM and Pi ECU are setup to use the boost controller solenoid(s) to lower / decrease wheel spin. This is something C and I were *very* interested in wiring up.
Sadly the SQ6 is still pending but the AEM was almost a 45min deal to setup. It sucks with TC on to be honest, makes me too comfy/confident in my poor ability.

 

Other tire possibilites: Michelin Pilot Sport Cup, Toyo R888, Yoko Advan 048. I have kept the PS Cups on car may a time .. as to lazy to remove, only drive on road on a nice day, etc, etc

 

PS2s are amazing tires - one of the few tires that actually maintains decent grip on wet roads which is a huge plus in my opinion with these tail happy cars.

On warm days they grip like any other high performance tire, wear is moderate and over all traction in all conditions is superb.

David, what sizes are you currently running? Apologies if it's been mentioned in the last 2834 posts

 

He is running 335 rear and 265 front I believe, not sure about the front though...

 

toyos are awsome, the best tires i ever used. just my 0.02. :P

 

You can't really make a generalization like that. Some lines of Toyo tires have great reviews, some mediocre.

Kai/David, what diameter wheels? Toyo RA1s are available in 275 and 335 widths:
