How i built my V-mount setup

As i have had severe trouble with getting the motor to run cool i decided to make a proper V-mount. I also took the opportunity to make the engine bay look a little bit nicer.

I have been running the Greddy FMIC for two years now but have not seen good intake temps atal. Not to speak about the radiator. I had intake temps of 60 C when driving down the street at an ambient temperature of around 25 C. The same goes for the radiator. I could never make a full lap around the track without cooking the engine... Maybe this is due to poor ducting, i don´t know. If i took the front bumper off, it worked a little bit better.

This is how it looked when i pulled the motor for this winter.

Then i cut all the unnecissary metal away in the front to get easy access to build how i liked. This will also make it easier to pull the engine later.

I then went to China for 3 weeks of work and someone stole my phone at a gaming arcadium... So i lost most of the best pictures of the mock-up and so on.

Anyway, i cleaned the entire engine bay, mocked everything up and fabricated som brackets for the IC and radiator. I then rolled the engine bay black.

Black is good because you don´t see the dirt so easily =)

I was too cheap to buy a greddy elbow so i used the OEM one to make my intercooler pipes. Does not look so nice in the pic but the reality is different i must say. Pretty pleased anyway.

I also did a new turbo manifold with smaller diameter runners during the winter. This was to create a bit better spool. I also fabbed a new down pipe which my friend welded (hi works as a welder at a big nuclear power plant here in Sweden). I also made a new SS316L 3,5" exhaust pipe with a dragger muffler... It sounds too much!! I need to add one more muffler.

The down pipe is 4" and made of SS316L

The V-band flanges are 3" and 3,5"

I also slapped the pettit flares on. This went extremely fast. Just cut the quarter panel and did it the usual way. I will try to paint them for next year. Or maybe wrap the car =)

I did not want to have the new fuel lines inside the car but at the same time i didn´t think they were so protected under the car either so i put them into a square pipe which i bolted under the car. Now i feel safe!

This is how it sits now. Tomorrow i will go to a small drifting track and have some fun over the weekend. I have bunkered 24 tires (used ones) so i hope they will last sat and sun.

the V-mount works VERY well! Im seeing 29 C in the intake when cruising on the highway in 24 C ambient... The water only gets hot after a few laps on the rew limiter around the track =) The engine easily produces 500 hp at 1,4 bar with my Turbobandit 70mm turbo on pump 98. I will do some ducting this winter but im not positive it will be any better. I am very pleased as it is now.

Thanks man! I had to cut grooves in the pipe to make the bend tighter =) And i reused the pipes from my old FMIC setup. That´s why there are so many welds on it. But anyway, it looks pretty nice. Also made of SS316L

Would the intercooler pipe to the tb have been easier with a shorter greddy style elbow? Also how do you fasten the bumper to the tube front?

nice work. my only question is, isn't a greddy elbow only like a 100 bucks? how can you be too cheap to buy that with all that you've put into the car?

Good question, the Greddy elbow costs around $150 and then shipping + tax so totally maybe $250. Not so expensive maybe but after all i did to the car it felt like one more of those expenses that i really did not have to do in order to get it to work. One more thing is that i had to fabricate those IC pipes fast as the first drift event was just a few days away. Anyhow, maybe i do it during the winter. Probably not =)

Not easier but probably better considering the bends in my pipe. The Greddy elbow would let me make a more straight pipe. Im thinking about the pressure losses.

I don´t fasten the bumper to the bash bar, i just use the mounts on the side. It sits pretty good actually.

I wouldn´t do this on a street car but as this is my drift car it doesn´t matter so much if the bodywork does not line up so well =)
