Yep guess I heard right , makes me sad lol. I really need to take a trip to Japan and look for some parts. I was told you can get used wheels and seats pretty cheap, if they are worn you always get good deals on them. I'm all about buying used and restoring as I can see you are doing. Great job getting the good deals!

so fast forward to today.... the car has gone through a lot. i wont link all the pictures from the body shop, tear down or reassembly but as you can imagine, it was a lot of work. so much in fact i cant even recall what all i did. it was a lot of things. for anyone interested in anything i may have done, i can search for pictures and stuff.
here we are today
i have a million billion pictures of everything i did to get to this point. its been a lot of work but very rewarding. the whole point of this build thread was to document all the things i was doing to show that i CAN do them competently but maintaining this thread on top of my life/work schedule is tough. sadly facebook is the location where i was able to make all my updates since its extremely simple and quick to do from my phone but it is what it is.
i am almost finished with putting the car back together. i am troubleshooting a couple things now and am powering through all the issues as they come up. nothing ridiculous so far so i must be doing something right. i really cant stress enough the amount of content i have for the car with the progress that was made from page 1 to now. its a lot and linking it all here would be insane. same with getting them all uploaded to photobucket. i will do it one day but not anytime soon.

Nice! Is that Phantom Blue? I was thinking of doing the same thing with my car, which also desperately needs a repaint. Did you have them repaint the bay, or does it match the Montego paint in there pretty nicely?

also, all that rust on the rear quarter was repaired of course. all the old metal was cut out and new metal welded in. there were a few minor spots all over the car but this was the bulk of the corrosion repair. i wish of got pictures of the metal being cut, shaped and welded.
BEFORE
old metal out, new in and putty over it
sanded
primered

this thread is going to be all over the place for a little while as i get it caught up and transcribe all my fb posts here.
a pretty good amount of work went into the block after i had it apart. i figured since the insides were new, the outsides should match. i did the oil pan brace of course along with the engine mounts. i did all new seals and gaskets from mazda for everything that was going back on the block and hi temp paint of course.
this is the stock inside heat shield for the twins. its laced with the dei gold foil and painted with the high temp silver i used on the block
all of these parts were cleaned with a wire wheel and alcohol. a lot of them came out looking brand new. getting the alternator back together was a lot of fun. if youve never put one together, you should try it out.

so i have left okinawa and am now in america. my car has been left in a safe place and i will be with it again next year around this time. i left it with a few minor things that i didnt have time to get to before i left. the video shows it in a state where the engine bay is 98% complete and the interior maybe 70%.

Awesome to see another FD that was near death brought back to life and running even. Great job.
You may not consider yourself an expert but I would say there are not many FD owner's who have ever removed and reinstalled a dash in these cars, including removing the wiring harness.
I took one apart once when I parted out a car. Was glad I did not have to put it back together.
Great work!
