Dud that is kool. I’m going to be in the same shape as you after I’m dun with the body work. I’m redoing an 88 gxl just for fun I love rx7 and got the car dirt cheap so I’m going to give it a shot.
What video did you use to help you?
And is this your first rebuild?

Cheers man.
I used the Rotary Aviation DVDs by Bruce Turrentine. They were a massive help.
Yes it was my first rebuild. Hopefully I won't be doing another one too soon as the bank account is still wondering what hit it....
Good luck with your project matey...

Nice write up! Don't let it overheat and done run it lean and you should enjoy it for a while! Also, watch your fuel levels at the track... I lost a motor on just half a tank at the track... fuel slosh led to fuel starvation.

Then again, I wasn't boosting properly with SEQ, when it was working OK, it felt nice and smooth but there definately is more mid and top end power with non-seq.
My only regret is that I didn't go non-seq straight from the rebuild.
I will let you guys know exactly how much more power it is making soon as the car will be re-dyno'd shortly and the results will be posted.
Watch this space!!
Oh, here's a pic of the car from Kempsey.....where it is now the class record holder!

Hey all,
So now that I've got my boost sorted, I had the car re-tuned.
Result was 281rwhp / 210rwkW @ 12psi on pump fuel.
I'm happy with that but the tuner said a Walbro pump should be my next purchase. I'll do this and get some larger injectors, maybe along with a FMIC and DP, then I'll re-tune and aim to crack 300rwhp...
Here's my dyno graph.

Hey man this is great I wish I had started a thread like this on mine when I first got it!! I have entered a bit of a different level of project as in its a full ground up rebuild and its for a road car, check out my build progress under interior/exterior - NZ build. I am sure your info will help me get mine working properly as I am currenlty having starting probs. Is it very difficult to de-sequentialize the turbo's??

Hey guys,
Thanks for the kind words.
ProjectD - I tapped the hole and loctited a bolt in there, then smoothed everything over with JB weld (great stuff)
BADSVN2000 - Not at all difficult to go non-seq (if you're a bit handy), and I would highly recommend it if you are having boost issues with the standard setup as I was. I still can't believe how much crap (vac lines, etc) you remove when you do the process. I had a 5 litre bucket to put all the pieces in, and it wouldn't hold them all! I followed the rotary resurrection guide, and here are some other sites I found helpful:
http://www.rotaryresurrection.com/3r...ov_nonseq.html
http://www.nopistons.com/forums/inde...howtopic=16665
http://www.fd3s.net/non-sequential.html
It's also good to use the simplified vac diagram when doing the conversion (I've attached it)
Getting the tubos off to cut out the doors, etc is a bit of a pain first time you do it, but it's a good time to clean everything, port your wastegate to stop boost creep and get to know your car a bit better. I also had a peep inside the engine to see how everything looked as far as carbon buildup, etc when I had the manifold off. All was good and nice and clean (probably because I change my oil every 100 miles
My advice is get stuck into it and don't be afraid! The results of non-seq are well worth the effort, I wish I did it earlier!

Great Thread
Great thread.... I just finished a rebuild on my 3rd gen engine as opposed to buying a reman..... My son Viperkillerfd3s did the internal build.
I also installed NEW OEM turbos and kept the sequential setup... time will tell if this mistake or not.... My son did try and talk me into "non" ... We'll see.
But great thread...

Thanks for the comments guys!
Update:
I won my class in the hillclimb series this year, was stoked considering I had some rounds where little bugs were still in the car.
Car is now stripped inside. I have a full cage and seats to install. Selling most interior pieces.
Some pics of a local hillclimb:

How many rpms are your peak HP at? And am I looking at the graph wrong, or are you boosting 25psi??
Congrats again!

i have an JDM FD as well. its running well right now. i also have the deleted seq turbo mod. i love it as well.
what interior pieces are u selling? mine's a road car, and some of the interior pieces are broken that i'd like to replace. (door cubby hole lid, glove box, etc.) i am in canada tho, will be in australia during my leave from my afghan tour of duty, cant wait!
