Thumbs up FD #2, 93 VR Base, Found sitting in a garage for 8yrs

Wanted to create a thread about my second FD, My first one was a 93 VR Base too.

I picked this 93 VR Base up back in Dec 2017 though a friend, he knew the guy selling it.
The car sat in the guys garage(blown motor) for about the last 8yrs. His plans were to V8 swap it but the swap never went through.
She is currently up and running and I'm fixing little things as I get time to.
More details and pics coming soon

When I first got her home...

My 1st FD was a VR base, too. Look forward to seeing it progress.

First wash in over 8 yrs... It was repainted at one point but wasn't the best job.
Also some damage on the passenger rear quarter. I'll be addressing that later.
Other than that its a nice solid car... and looks good from 10ft.

Good looking base model. Red on black is classic, and the non-leather seats have fared best over time. Are those BBS 16s? Old school.

Bad fuel is bad

Fast forward a couple of months and I finally had time to drain the tank.
It had about five gallons of this GOOD stuff in it.

Did you have to remove the tank to drain it? I just got mine home today. She's been sitting for 5 years but this if my first FD. I wasn't as lucky. She sat in yard vs a garage...

My 93 tank had a drain plug. I ended up draining then removing the tank.
I bought a new tank and fuel pump assembly through Akins Rotary.
I didn't want to hassle with that old tank and then have it come back and bit me later.

Really glad to see you saved her from a piston swap, Stephen

It's funny, I met a firebird nut (he owns like 4) in Fort Myers who also is the original owner of a red 93 touring FD that had sat for many years. The fuel tank and pump looked almost identical to yours. It needed some more parts (plugs, wires, CPU2) to fire off along with a nice tank and pump assembly we picked up from the Lee C/Edwards boys.

I agree that the base model seats definitely age better than the leather. What are your power goals?

I have a funny feeling that Mr. Dale Clark is local to you and may be involved in this resurrection..... am I correct ?

He unfortunately isn't local to me but we've been friends for ages and go to Deal's Gap every year. You may have met him at a DGRR in the past actually.

Thumbs up New Fuel Tank

New fuel tank from Atkins Rotary, I bought it and it arrived at my house in less than a week.
I also installed a new denso fuel pump in a new pump hanger w/ new fuel level sensor but no pics of those.
And while I was up under there I installed a new fuel filter...... Thx to Dale for the SWEET fuel filter replacement write-up.

Arrow Brakes

Worked on the brakes.
I installed a set of Stoptech steel braided brake lines and Speed Bleeders front and rear.

Here's the nastiness that was coming out of the brake lines.

Arrow V-Mount set up

I'll be using a Rotary Works v-mount intercooler/radiator setup.
The v-mount kit is designed for you to relocate your battery but I wanted to keep my battery up front.
So found a used Turbo Jeff battery tray and made some modifications to the v-mount brackets.
That allowed me to fit the battery tray and intercooler/radiator the way I wanted it.

Smile Exhaust..............

Like I said before the car is up and running so this thread will be jumping around out of order and such... anyway here goes....

So here's a update on the exhaust I did a while ago.

Had some time to get the previous owners hack job of a cat-back removed from the car.

I went with a Tanabe Medalion and i'm glad I did, its nice and quiet with my rx7 store mid-pipe which is what I was going for.
It also sounds really good with the mid-pipe removed and a test pipe in its place...nothing too crazy loud.

Time for some pics
