was able to put a few break in miles on it this Saturday at a little car meet/cruise before putting her away for the winter. Now she sleeps with about 200 miles on the clock.

It was about 10 degrees out lol

haha yea it was a bit chaotic at times. The pics (I didn't take): first 2 are from the lombard location, panorama is Soldier Field, last one is at AH. Me and my buddies only stayed at the Lombard meet maybe 1 hr before leaving to the Arlington Heights location where we chilled inside at HOME bar.

From there we kinda took our own route down the highway to avoid the cluster ***** and by the time we got to Soldier Field the entire place was full and cops were already locking it down. For me it was more about just getting the car out and about and having something different to do on a Saturday with my buddy in his STi and a few other friends just rollin' around.

Yea I really basically only went to the lots for the fundraiser/food drive. I was well aware that 2000 cars all following each other at the same time was going to cause problems. Main reason I didn't participate in the group cruise/route.

It was worth it to me just to see the crazy turnouts at the lots with some nice cars and it was all planned like a few days in advance on facebook

I was the only FD but I saw like 3-4 FCs and a handful of RX-8s. Did meet a guy who just picked up a FD last week for his first rotary....maybe he'll join the club soon.

Thanks man.....didn't come without a lot of stress, heartache, and hours of wrench time and laying under the car.

Did I mention HOURS of wrench time and laying on my back under the car weather it be 100 or 0 degrees it seems....but totally worth it. The car is literally my happy place, shrink, and getaway all in one. NEVER fails to put a smile on my face weather I'm just out driving like grandma or pushing it like a madman.

Definitely a car/machine for the history books.....but we already know that.

Cheers

Sick build, I am myself barely getting into the nitty gritty of my Rx7. The engine was supposed to have been street ported by Hayes and Installed by Mariah. My friend and I cracked it open today after 2 days to tear it out of the car and it was stock, and an absolute crap build to boot.

We have to start from scratch now.

Can't wait to get my car to your level man.

small update:

so the car is basically been hibernating for the last 2 1/2 months while we still continue to have a pretty rough winter here around Chicago.

I can not express how much it SUCKS not being able to drive this thing. After basically working on the rebuild and single setup ALL summer I was able to finish it right as winter started. I haven't even broken it in yet and spring is quickly approaching.

I'm getting ancy to finally see what kind of monster(or disaster if things don't go as planned) I've actually built for myself. I got a lot of friends talking the talk wanting to see if things go BUST!

SO to add another piece to the puzzle to make sure that DOESN'T happen I finally spent sometime on rewiring my fuel pump. The car isn't planning to break any records so for now I am just going to keep the Supra pump that I was using when I was still on the Twins and just feed it some proper juice as we all know the problems the factory wiring has.

I decided I wanted to do it the "right" way and use bulkhead terminals and all new wiring. I did the extra work so upgrading to a bigger pump or duals in the future would be easier if I make it to that point of wanting more power.

Now I didn't exactly have the right tools for this so maybe it comes of as ghetto but I'm more concerned with function when things are all said and done. The first connector I drilled for came out slightly oval which created a tiny gap around the connector. This wasn't really a problem as this style of bulkhead connector needs to be sealed anyways as some members here have had problems. I used some JB weld to seal and reinforce the terminals then shot it with some paint to make it not look so sloppy. Nobody is ever going to see this as it's hidden and I kept that in mind during this whole process.

Trunk is a mess with wiring for my amp, sub, and all the relay wiring for the fuel pump.

The final pic of the wiring was just a test fit as all the wiring is going to be wrapped and protected before it's all said and done.

I may eventually relocate the relay to hide it more but for now I didn't feel like tearing all the hatch interior out and it mounted so nicely to the stud right there.

Looks good, I actually de-pinned the fuel pump wire from the big white factory connector so I didn't have to cut any wire for my pump rewiring.

nice, what happened to me actually was that when my bulkhead terminals were finished the one next to the factory bulkhead was just BARELY too close which prevented me from being able to reconnect the white connector. The bulkier depress section of the connector wouldn't clear the one terminal I added on that side.

I ended up De-pinning the the fuel level wires and isolated them so they could both be directly attached to the factory bulkhead. I capped away with the factory pump ground since I was running a new one and spliced the factory fuel pump power wire to feed as my relay energize for the new wiring to the pump.

maybe I went a little overboard but seeing as I had the time now I figured why not. I really didn't just want to have this happen utilizing the factory bulkhead now, or for future upgrades.

yes it will, I think there will be something like 7 or more FDs with all new setups rolling around so I think a few meets will be in order

and just a lil video for my thread to document this exhaust setup as I may be changing the exhaust in the near future.

I've never been a fan of the RB exhaust tone. To me it sounds too ricey or maybe it's just the videos.

Although, my selection of exhaust it's not exactly the cheap route: RE-A twin dolphin tail:

That definitely is a nice exhaust you got there but a man's gotta leave some room in the budget for other things lol.

I would also wager to say that NO videos do any exhaust justice as to how it really sounds. I would bet that your dolphin tail sounds better than that in person. I think it fair to say though that we all agree that SUPER DUPER straight pipe rotaries really don't have much of a place as daily driver-ish cars on normal city streets.

tiny update:

Car is running great. Right now I'm on the PFC base tune with some small changes by myself, mainly for the idle. I'm running on the wastegate spring which right now is about 4 psi to keep things safe for the break in. Car has around 600 miles on it and one oil change under it's belt.

My LIST of things to do before i get to really tuning is the following:

install/wire up Triumph fast reacting air temp sensor
install/wire up GM 3 bar map sensor
install/wire up Bosch 2000cc secondary injectors
remove all resistors/connectors/ect for the current 1680s
weld "dolphin" tail tip to the wastegate dump pipe
install proper wastegate springs
hook-up/route boost controller lines

purchase water injection and a datalogit

here's a quick video my buddy (STi) took while we cruised for a bit today.
This was his first time actually hearing my car while i got on it a bit...scared him pretty good since he wasn't expecting it to be so violent he told me.(it was my plan haha) Camera audio sucks and does no justice as those of us who have heard an open wastegate rotary know how crazy they really can sound.
