DECADE build and my RX-7 ownership diary!!!!!!!

started really mocking things up at this point. Installed my oil pan brace and banzai stud kit. Put on my wastegate dump pipe. Fabricated a turbo drain line. Added the motor mounts that would eventually have IRP street mounts installed. Got all the accessories installed including some Togue Factory pullies and air pump delete idler (which I've had for a few years). Also made up my oil feed line.

Sean I'm going to PM you
ZE Power MX6 that is a possibility
Bill....there is no Ted without Bill ;-)
bufferovflo, I do plan to get back in there and add some more heat sleeving for various things. For the time being while I break in the motor I figure I'd be ok as the car won't be seeing any boost or extended driving.

So one other thing that was pretty crazy was that I had a little rodent issue the day I was building the engine.
Earlier in the day I found my cat just staring into a random corner of the house....I knew what that meant. Turns out there was a baby mouse. Later after that while out in the garage I saw another mouse right outside the door. Still even LATER I noticed another mouse but this guy was a little to quick for me to catch unlike the last two. He managed to squeeze underneath a bunch of stuff.
So I brushed it off and went back about my day building up the engine. After one failed attempt at stacking I was sitting in my little seat taking my time when I just got this feeling to look around. After all I had been seeing little dark spots scurrying around all day.
To my surprise I had a little spectator. WHO WOULD OF KNOWN THAT MICE COULD BE ROTORHEADS?!?
This guy was a baby baby and barely flinched an eye when I got near him. He was just so content with checking out my engine parts up close, haha.
I would eventually scoop him up and take him way way out into the yard and place him with the rest of the family that I had removed earlier in the day. I was recording all during my build process as well and after reviewing my videos I could see him scurrying about in the background while I obliviously kept working on the engine. Funny stuff but made for a GREAT picture.

next came time to fabricate and finish up my downpipe. For the time being I am going to run an open dump from the wastegate....loud doesn't bother me too much as I'm still a youngin'
I had this intake building kit laying around that has all these mock up pieces. JUST so happens to be an exact 3 inches and so it made things VERY easy when it came to mocking up the downpipe and deciding what I needed lengthwise to finish mating with the resonated midpipe.
I chose to go with a flex section that was the perfect length and with the flange and everything welded up it was perfect. Welded in my wideband bung and wrapped to finish her off.
Also started making the pipes I needed for the intercooler and such

Then came the time when I really started to stress and worry.
ALL this time.....ALL this effort....ALL this money.....would this thing even start?
Would it blow up up upon first crank?
Did I miss something that would be catastrophic.
There were a thousand things that could go wrong with all the custom wiring, oil/fuel lines, engine build, ect.
I put off the first start it seems for quite a bit until all the stars seemed to align.
I was either going to have a running FD again or at the very least footage of a catastrophic engine blow up on first start that ought to get a few good hits on youtube. ;-)
I did my initial cranking to build up oil pressure which checked out good. Primed the fuel system, set up my camera, grabbed my bro to be my eyes for leaks while I manned the wheel expecting that I would need to keep her running if she did start.
BELOW is how things went......

had GREAT encouragement at zero hour from my brother
@ 0:10 "your **** is gonna blow up"
another angle
kept her right up around 2k till my brother noticed some oil leaking a good amount. It was coming from my turbo oil feed line which I guess I had not tightened all the way. A quick fix and I started her back up for the full warm out that went without a hitch.

Sounds good sir, try and dump that dump tube downward or rotate it away from the car and more towards the drive tunnel. Also since you are becoming the fab master see if you can get that radiator ducted and sealed so it will work much better with that FMIC in the way.

Ya, put a dolphin tale on that WG pipe, or route it back inline and stop being obnoxious :P.
Sean: Whats the good word over there at a-spec? I didnt have a chance to swing by with the new car this year. Busy as **** but I guess thats a good thing.

Sean, I'm way ahead of you ;-)
still in the process of mocking things up and fitting the pieces. It probably won't be the prettiest thing but it damn sure will be functional.
and yes I'm not quite finished with the dump pipe but since I won't be boosting anytime soon for now I should be ok. I was going to probably cut the pipe down a bit since it is pretty long and then angle more towards the center of the car like suggested. I will also probably angle cut the end as I'm not sure there is anyway for me to "dolphin tail" it like you suggested Bill without a tube bender or welding on a curved piece at the end.

uploading now but here's a ~10 min vid of the car idling and it's maiden voyage around the block. Yes I was so anxious I forgot to throw on the air filter.
The car was actually a lot louder to begin with because I forgot to put in the wastegate valve seat so it was sort of open giving it that louder race rotary sound. The few shots at the end of the video are more updated after I fixed that issue and the car is ALOT quieter now....that is until the wastegate cracks open for the first time which i'm DYING to hear but that will have to wait till spring
