Once you finish toying around with the car I may need to pick it up as a 2nd CYM. My daughters argue over who will get the CYM once they start driving, so a 2nd one in the garage would solve that problem.

Car is looking better every update and so glad to see all the mechanical's being taken care of to keep it in tip-top shape.

Well, its about time to button this thread up and put this baby to BED

This build thread was more of a, "Fix 20+ Years of Wear & Tear" thread, updating many components that had worn over the years on this 63k mile CYM.

The car was and is nice, and the previous owner had certainly put lots of money into the car by modifying it. But it really needed a lot of love, and while it's a low mileage chassis, it had spent many years in Yonkers NY--- which is murder on suspension, bushings and pillow *****

This has been a pretty long drawn out process for many reasons, and I've been working with the new owner to make sure everything is to his liking. I've essentially become like his own personal mechanic on this car

So, on the pics:



Super-high quality Samco couplers in a Non-Banana Peel color? Yes prease



Engine Bay looks way better. I'm pretty proud of myself (*pats self on back*) as this bay is worlds better than when I purchased the car.



Glad I delved into the OEM shifter. I knew it wasn't shifting quite right, and found many original oem components in pieces and the lower shifter bushing and circle spring were literally missing. Complete rebuild with OEM parts in my last order from Mr. Ray Crowe before Malloy shut him down.

 

Next up, the new owner picked up a mint new big-baller JDM yo Spirit R shift **** and E-brake handle from me. Installed that, took the time time to really vacuum and clean up the carpet while the passenger seat was out

 

You'll notice the future owner also shipped over a nice JDM Miata steering wheel which I installed along with a used clock spring (thanks Fritz!). Previous owner had removed it.

Horn now works, Yay! I had been using the dumped wastegate if I needed to get anyone's attention on the road

I took the time to clean up some little odds and ends too:

***Left the OEM Bose Privacy cover on the car at the new owner's request, courtesy of my brother Ryan (owner of a super-rare SSM Base Racecar)

***Installed new OEM 'hangers' for the lanyards on the cover in the rear hatch

***Replaced the bulb in the rear hatch dome light, now it works with no issues

***Double-checked and seated firmly the connectors for the electronic door plungers on both sides. Now when you open either door, the interior dome lights come on if in the 'door' position



Pics don't do the new parts justice, they're so much nicer. In the background you can spy the JDM e-brake boot surround--- the e-brake mount for the boot (and the plastic panel for that matter) are different so to install the handle correctly you need to swap over the plastic boot surround. I installed the USDM boot surround the right way, using a sturdy staple gun so the boot isn't going anywhere



Being that shippers aren't always the gentlest with their cargo, and frequently have greasy hands, I did my best to protect the new Hiroshima parts

Along these same lines, I went into the PFC Commander and lowered the rev limiter to 3500 rpm for the flatbed trip. Car will start and drive, but no beating on the car fellas





And...... the final shot of my ownership. A look back while she warms up. It's been a fun journey, I hope the new owner really drives the car and enjoys it---- And doesn't start swapping out major parts and messing with it as this car needs *nothing* changed in my biased opinion

 

Looks like it needs a matching shift boot to me....

Well I finally got my CYM today!! After 4 other FDs I finally have the one I always wanted. Thanks rich for giving me a great car. Don't worry I won't be making many changes, and the ones I do I will check with you for the parts and won't be engine related. Most likely just wheels, 99 wing and that's probably it. Again thanks for everything you have done to the car that you really didn't have to do!

 

Great to see more updates! I don't remember if you said anything about it or not, but what additions does the CYM have that makes it better than a standard FD?

All U.S. CYM cars were R1s, which came with dual oil coolers, engine strut brace, and black suede seats. Only 350 U.S. models were delivered in CYM. Standard "base model" FDs did not have the passenger side oil coolers, strut tower bars, and came with different bucket seats. The color is not for everyone, but to each his own. I know from experience that when a line of FDs are parked at a car show, for whatever reason, people tend to attract to the bright yellow and I'm constantly chasing honey bees away from my car
