I have been a red car guy all my life, at least till I drove my CYM. Since then, it has become my favorite color and I prefer it to my VR. Rich may suffer the same fate -- which is not a bad thing.

I seriously hate yellow... but I love that color on FD's!

That thing looks pretty damn clean. I like all of the changes you have made already to make it more tasteful.

PS. I need those headlights!

Thumbs up

Went to a local Cars & Coffee meet early this morning which was very well attended. Seems like the closer winter gets, the more guys bring their sports cars out to play

There were tons of Ferraris, Porsches and M3s to look at, but as the meet dwindled down a few of us took the time for a mini-photoshoot. One guy there had a very nice camera so I'm waiting for his high-end shots, but these iPhone pics will have to do for now

Cool

The BMW is an 850CSi, I'm told it has an M-worked V12 engine and 6 speed manual trans. Extremely clean inside, and when all four windows were down there a wide open space from front to back---pretty slick.

The Cayman GT4 is simply gorgeous in person. Sounds awesome, but I can verify that it's not as fast as a single turbo FD, at least not during a quick second gear pull

The NSX is evidently a very rare color and more valuable than I had thought. Extremely beautiful car and sounded awesome leaving the parking lot.

Supra was very clean, pretty stock and well taken care of.

Something tells me that at least one of these cars will be headed to IRP for some work in the near future

Brought the CYM to IRP to help the guys knock out some much needed work:

* reseal leaking oil pan
* install six new OEM pillow ***** and two bushings in the rear control arms
* install new OEM clutch slave cylinder and clutch line
* face the downpipe and resonated midlipe flanges to aid in sealing and eliminate minor exhaust leaks

As you can see, the underside of the engine still looks new with 0 evidence of being run hot. Thanks go out to Ihor and the crew at IRPerformance for taking care of the CYM for me

Looks good! Which bushings in the rear are you changing? Did you have a clunking rear end? I need to do the pillow ***** in mine as well.

I'm pretty sure facing the exhaust involves machining the flanges flat and true. That way the exhaust seals better.

Damn! I'm more of an FC guy myself but your CYM is truly very impressive! I like the work that you've done on it; it looks amazing. May I be so rude to ask what you paid for it?

That last pic with the GTR tho

Had a very productive weekend..... lots of pic coming up

Had the car on the lift at IRP after the oil pan reseal and clutch slave/clutch line install so I took the time to clean the underside of the car a bit. Thanks to Mr. Mobeoner for his help bleeding the clutch as well.

Also checked the compression, and the results were pretty damn impressive. This was with the car not fully warmed up so I'm sure the hot numbers would be a bit lower, but pretty happy with the results nonetheless. Maybe 2000 miles on the engine now, IRP Stage 3 street port and full rebuild with RA 2mm apex seals and resurfaced rotor housings:

Cool

Made it out to Renna's Tuning Cave in PA with Mobe riding shotty and Mr. Scrub was there waiting with many rare beers and sour ales. Late night wrenching commenced and fun was had by all

Worked til about 3am hanging out and cleaning up the engine bay--rerouting and tucking wires, replacing old rusty hardware with shiny new pieces, etc.

Street tuning went extremely well---- John Renna is The Man in my opinion, and consistently takes cars that have been poorly tuned by other 'big name' tuners and has them running 100% better. His attention to detail is top-notch, and he really cares about what he's doing. Can't ask for more in a turbo rotary tuner. I say this based on over 17 years of FD ownership too

The car idles rock solid, hot starts like a boss, has zero little driving issues that most modded FDs have, boosts quickly and pulls very well to 8000 rpm. Accelerates smoothly under all conditions, including part throttle to redline and in parking lot stop and go.

Street tunned (tunned!!) to 1 bar boost with AEM windshield wiper fluid fun and an Apex'i 3 bar map sensor for those interested. New OEM 9 spark plugs and new OEM NGK plug wires. The session went without a hiccup, literally the easiest I've been involved in--- because we all know that's rarely the case

Extremely happy, anyone in the northeast owes it to themselves to check this dude out

My couplers are blue and completely clash with my car. I see you have yellow. I'm going to change mine to black.
I guess I better get out there and measure them. 2.75 inch is my guess. Cancel Christmas! I need car parts!

I'm thinking black as well, the previous owner loved the 'yellow on yellow' thing--which is not my thing

Guys, we can use Christmas to our benefit---- FOR collecting car parts

Cool

I spent my Black Friday at IRPerformance in Metuchen NJ with quite a cast of characters:

Ihor Huk, Overlord of IRP
Selwyn Diggedy-gado, IRP master technician
Forty Ounce/Dr. Poco, owner of multiple FDs (including an authentic Mazdaspeeed car)
ZoomZoom/Mikey M, CYM stud and photo hotshot
MazdaspeedR1/Mikey P, owner of one of the most modified FDs I've seen in awhile

Laughs were had, parts were traded, irons were ported.

Along with knocking out a set of streetported intake ports for another 400+ rwhp FD, I was hoping to get the following work done on the CYM (with help from Mr Huk):

Remove control arms, press in six new pillow ***** and two new bushings
Refresh/rebuild original shifter assembly
Install newly painted R1/RZ front strut tower bar
Miscellaneous odds and ends, because it NEVER ends

On to the pics!

I took the time to wipe the hub area down and clean things up while it was all apart. Ihor mentioned that these pillow ***** were about the worst he'd ever seen--- a low mileage car driven mostly on the local roads of Yonkers NY will get like that over twenty years I suppose

It's worth noting that the aluminum control arms weigh next to nothing once the bushings/pillows are out of them.

A little elbow grease in the parts washer goes a long way towards making things pretty again too.

The Tein Type Flex suspension on this car look to be in mint condition after a nice wipe-down. I really think the previous owner just basically installed pricey parts on this sucker and let it chill in the garage for many years.

The shifter looks to be completely original and every single boot is ripped. This might explain my Renna and I were sniffing the delicate aroma of rotary exhaust fumes during our WOT highway pulls, lol.

Secret switch? Gonna have to trace this one down. A quick text to the P.O. assures me that this does not do anything covert like turn off the milage counter--that it's stereo related.

An example of 1993 beat-up parts vs new Ray Crowe-provided Mazda OEM Luvvin'

The Cusco Titanium front strut bar that was on loan came off in favor of a newly painted shiny black R1/RZ unit. Nice and stealthy, I think it looks awesome stretching across the bay

You can also spy the nice new allen-head water pump pulley hardware. I'm slowing replacing all the old rusty stuff in favor of new bling.

I also took the time to install a pair of LED bulbs into the recess above the rear license plate--- along with cleaning up the dirty light covers, this really helps the Po-Po get a great look at your license plate as you break the speed limit on local highways

Now for the *real* pics, an impromptu photo shoot courtesy of Mr. Mauro. He mentioned a few may come out to be 'poster material' and he may have been correct. The man's got talent

FEED headlight lid...... the ultimate 'does the owner really value function over form?' mod

These Knightsports lights are so sexy, I may start driving with them up all the time

This right here is the Money Shot in my opinion

Not pictured: a dozen more FDs/FCs/8s just off camera waiting for some IRP attention.

Another version of the last pic, this one I like to call 'V8 Delete'
