Ok a little update ! I blew my motor on the way back from the roto rally .. Ironic it happened just cruising on the highway .. seems like a spun bearing as the motor still starts and has 17 inches of vacume . But its making a very nasty noise .

CreativeFD 04-30-13 08:48 PM

Same thing happened to my motor in January. Brought it to Pettit now all is good.

glad they got that fixed , i'm currently saving up for the new motor . I'm going to go with a reman vs rebuild this one . incase it has some internal damage . and that way I can start to build this one slowly get it ported and have a monster motor for next time.

Hey my friend! I know we've chatted back in forth between PMs but I never saw your build thread! Great work! Way to stick with it and bring her back!

Dliverance 05-29-13 05:58 PM

Did you take the blown motor out yet and look inside?

Thanks gringo LOL , Yeahh.. the car is alot of fun when it works .

Deliverance not yet started the tear down today finally had room to work on it

But unfortunately I think My ecu may be fried...

when I put the ignition in no lights or anything came on figured battery was dead , let it charge for about 4 hours then tried the ignition again , car cranks , lights turn on , but none of hte instruments or the Power FC commander turn on ..

I just went to get the battery replaced since it was under warranty and I'm gonna try it tomorrow . But damn I'm starting to believe this FD is cursed... Wangan midnight anyone?

DreamInRotary 06-21-13 10:56 PM

Like you say, the flat black FD is trending but you have to admit - they look like jet fighters when they're done! I love the way a flat black FD looks in person, I've seen a 500whp dyno'd beast of an FD in that color and it looked amazing.

Good luck on the build man, cool to see! :bigthumb:

stationary gear. gone both look like this front and rear done .

Attachment 665680

Rotor Gear Gone as well .. Both like this

and Attachment 665681

Quite a bit of carbon on the rotors as well I only had the engine for a year..

1 of the housings had some chatter Attachment 665676

and a spark plug crack

Attachment 665677

the oil pump was completely Gone forgot ot take pictures of it , and the Eshaft was bad to from where the bearing originally spun

P.S. I never ran this car low on oil .. it had low Oil pressure form the first day I put it in the car. I figured it was a bad oil pressure sensor. but I guess someone did run the car low on oil beforehand , and that messed up the oilpump which in turn caused this ...

catastrophic damage could of been avoided had I rebuilt the engine back then ..

But now We start the build up.

I got this Lightweight flywheel for a great deal .. it needs ot have the friction plate replaced . but for the price it was hard to pass on

Attachment 665674

Attachment 665675

I have a thing against sidegrading , when ever I can I try to upgrade . since hte flywheel is out why not!! ,

epson1 07-27-13 07:10 PM

sick car

Dliverance 07-27-13 09:00 PM

So what did you determine was the cause? Bad oil pump? Clogged pickup?

Bad oil pump 99% chance . I never ran the car low on oil ,and the car wasn't low on oil when it blew in fact I had just filled it up with some oil

Thanks , and no reason not to .. I never found the engine to be lacking in anything .

and it blew not because it was a rotary . But because of combined negligence between the previous owner for running it low on oil , and myself for not rebuilding before it turned into this mess

This is 110% correct, a lot of heads love to blame the rotary. Weather it's a piston or rotary a half ass engine, will fail it's just a matter of time!

^oooh special visit from engine builder.

but like you said . People like to blame everything just because its a rotary but low oil pressure would destroy any engine weather it be V8 or not LOL . specially getting rev'd to 8k and raced every chance it got .

and my goal when all said and done is to take down a V8 or two..
