^^ Thanks! its good to feel "close" to done with the car. its a GREAT feeling when your wish list is almost complete and everything else you want doesnt exceed $300+ lol!!

I've offically became the guy i hate... when i got into rx7's i liked the 99 spec, but it was never my taste. same goes with the 99 spec spoiler.. I am getting old. im falling in love with how subtle the look is. now im 99 spec plateless and thinking about the 99 spec spoiler =/

I would think it would be easier to unbolt the PPF and lower the transmission with a jack to make access easier. Rather than making a custom socket...... But it got the job done.

BTW, how do you sleep?

Looking Great bubbles...

Im not sure if you covered it before, but what "process" or surface is needed for the vinyl to lay on...?

reason I'm asking, I'm considering doing this to my car, but it has a less then craptastic current paint job that would not surprise me if it was spray bombed... with a few spots that have some kind of foreign object in the paint that need to be removed first...

I'm not a fan of work CR's, but God Damn, in white they look awesome...

how much vinyl do you need in order to get the whole car done (assuming some minor screw ups of course)

thanks

J.

when you have polly mounts the engine/transmission doesnt move much up and down, at least mine doesnt

besides going that far you might as well remove the trans since its only 2 more steps from there

2 braces AND ppf it would be easier if it was garenteed to give me enough clearance to put a wrench or whatever in that space. i think i would still need to make a tool. plus i botched dennis' sensors as well so now when i go to fix his it will be a 20 minute job vs unbolting all that crap

i just started sleeping on my back... i use to sleep on my side/ stomach lol.

thanks. im not sure. this is my first time doing vinyl. ive been told vinyl doesnt stick on primer. i sanded down the clear coat, body filled any imperfections, primer, paint, wetsand then vinyl'd. i only see the vinyl a temp solution since IMO my paint was hideous. i got 5'x50' and i ran out and need more for my rear bumper. i messed up on my hatch and bumper once so take that into consideration. also i took off all my pieces and i wrap the vinyl around back. if you do it like the pros with all the panels on the car, you will have AMPLE material.

thanks on the rims. i love em.

trueee didnt even think of that but i have irp mounts and im pretty sure they dont allow that much play to make a difference.

btw killer rims!

Great build thread! I've been wanting to vinyl my car for a while but I haven't been able to make the plunge without having more of an idea of wth I'm getting myself into lol.

Was there a reason why you decided to take off all the body panels to wrap it? Would it be easier to wrap them while they're still on the car?

not much done today... i was procrastinating and in a huge debate to cut my bumper for vents to the oil cooler or make a duct that divided air from the center opening to the oil cooler.
cut the bumper: openings are ~9"x1.65"x2= ~28 inches^2
center duct: 26.5" x 1= 26.5inches^2

so not by much, but the vents in the bumper yielded a bigger opening, and a more direct path for air so i went that route...

i drew it up on the computer, made it a vinyl decal, applied it on the bumper then spray painted over it black. Peeled off and i had my template and cut away!
pics......

Do you think your going to get any wind flap on that piece under the cuts seeing as air will go in the bottom and up top making it... you know... like wave from the wind! might not though.

not sure if you need to duct those holes now, im thinking that it might do more harm than good being that the holes are still somewhat small. I think adding a duct might restrict more air from below, though doing so will allow you to route air directly to the rad.

either way, i think you need to tweak it slightly to match the curves of the bumper, i photoshopped what i meant.

now thinking about it... if you went with the 99 spec with a front plate, then you could cut 85% of where the license plate goes and create a big *** duct just for your IC, it wont look pretty but you can put your plate on to cover it up. Its more of a setup for function rather than looks.

Im not sure but i dont think that will be and issue since the bumper is fiberglass and pretty rigid in my opinion. also this design was inspired by the RE-Amemiya bumper cut outs. Although mine are bigger i dont see it being an issue (Re-amemiya bumper has sidewalls on the vents so its more rigid. we shall see!

ducting would be beneficial since it will force the air through the oil cooler. if it is left open, air will hit the oil cooler and go down since it is angled that way. air flow is like water and will take the path with least resistance. therefore spill out and be kinda useless

i cant tell the difference of what you photoshoped. the only thing i see the difference is the inner bottom corners...

You know thats an oil cooler right behind it right? plus there is a rebar and frame behind that so there is no real room for a duct.
