No porting, factory sealed motor, good compression.
Thanks, hopefully!

Thanks! Your FD is a inspiration! I really want to be about there racing.

I did talk about it with the tuner, they highly recommended against it for my goals (track and road racing), the restriction add heat and back pressure effecting reliability. Fine for the street no good for racing when your on boost for ~20min at a time.

I did get some new parts, once i have the manifold and exhaust housing in hand ill work on refab. Got the new Gen 5 gates from a friend, figured it would be nice to have some cool turbo sounds so got a vented box.

Also got this mean sump for the inevitable rebuild/porting down the track

Did you consider going with a different IWG manifold to see if you could keep boost in check? It’s disappointing to see these IWG setups unable to control boost.

It has nothing to do with the exhaust manifold.I have noticed other vendors claiming this, and I have already tuned this vendor's setup, and other's who exhibit the same boost creep. One has to understand that there are a lot of variables, and most other shops simply do not have enough data. The first 30 turbo systems we did not a single setup had any creep...

This particular car is the worst I have ever seen. There was another guy who had similar, who switched manifold designs( made zero difference) and later ported his WG and it did fix his issues.

Yeh, i wouldn't blame the manifold, whilst its frustrating the setup does not work for my FD it works for almost all others, the manifold itself is awesome along with the entire kit, i am really disappointed it didnt work out for me as i am a huge fan of how simple it makes everything.

Its the turbo itself, the 8374 internal gate is on the borderline on flowing enough for a 13b to run low boost. For me i am over that borderline, i cannot explain why as i simply do not know. I do have a 3.5" turbo back to a 3" catback. I have a greddy vmount kit and stripped out all the non essential stuff in the throttle body. The engine is stock / unopened / 100psi+ on all faces.

Edit: also i would not recommend porting the waste gate, you have to lose the divider which really hurts spool defeating the purpose of running a EFR.

Not to derail your thread, but is there any rhyme or reason to know if the IWG setup would work before pulling the trigger? I’d rather stay twins than deal with external gates as potential failure points on a track car.

No worries, the only one I can think of 100% is the ability and willingness to run high boost. That said i seem to be the only person that has not been able to resolve this with porting the internal wastegate

Hopefully someday someone will make the rotary community the EFR 7674, EFR 7680 and EFR 8380 options we need to be able to run closer to an all out set-up on low boost with IWG

I remember it took a long time after the base GT35R came out before the tailoring of turbo sizes for specific applications in the GT line became available.

A custom cast IWG turbine housiing (by TiAL or Treadstone or similar) would be a great start. I've seen somebody is making custom turbine housings for factory placement on Subarus. Sorry the porting didn't work out.

I have some updates! Progress has kicked off again, this week i tore down the hotside of the car and swapped on the EWG housing, the car is now at a local fabricator (@InvisibleManRacing) who designed and fabbed a very tidy downpipe and wastegate plumbing (I want to run this car in some events that require a road licence down the track, this needs plumbed in gates). He is now making up a coolant swirl pot to remove the AST and a 2lt oil catch can (scrutinising requirement) and plumb in the cold side of the turbo.

Then need to run some new coolant / oil / vac lines for the CHRA and wastegates then its ready to go in for tuning! Should happen quickly.

After that we will be working on either a 4pt or 8pt cage (depending on what i can get away with for race regs) + seat and harness mounts.

New downpipe with waste gates plumbed in, i have a RHD car so the steering column runs near the down pipe but there is now plenty of clearance with this design

New turbo position, much much nicer IMO

Swirl pot (just need a coolant flange to finish)

Race seat (have 2 of these so i can take a navigator

New helmet, has built in comms and water supply

Dual "Remora" WG Asm

That WG location and routing should work just fine.

Its coming together! Intake, IC piping, Oil catch can (with drain to sump), coolant swirl pot and aluminium oil filler all in place fabed (@invisiblemanracing did the fab work, check out his stuff, its legendary).

I drove the car down to HPR yesterday and had a solid tuning session, everything worked fantastically the cooling system kept temps just over thermostat, the oil pressure was good, fuel pressure stayed flat to redline, IATs stayed around 30c.

The car made 350rwhp and 380nm torque at 14psi, i was hoping for a bit more but the power curve is great. The advise right now is to change to better coils. Keep in mind this is a unopened 13b.

Here is a video from one of the dyno runs

I really like your re-routed external gates. Your boost control looks rock solid. Those are good numbers for a stock port at 1bar. Don't let the dyno jockeys fool you. How does it drive?

Thanks! It drives really well, the power band comes on in a very smooth way which will be great for the racetrack, its much more consistent when compared to the twins. The tuning is very good, i dont feel any weird reactions at tip in or partial throttle.
