I'd started to like the build until the nice red engine bay was painted black and that front thing on the bumper...why?

Painted the bay black cuz the red was faded/cracking/scratched/and overall looked like ****. The black IMO cleaned it up and helps hide the eyesores like the ABS and relays.

Front splitter and air dam are for:

A) Protect the Radiator and hoses
B) Provide downforce for the front of the car
C) Protect the underside of the car
D) Air dam closes the gap between the splitter and the bumper

It will look more badass with the APR adjustable splitter supports. similar to this:

But whatever floats your boat man.

This seems strangely similar to my build except the front air splitter thing and v-mount.

Its super crazy to the other college students driving their parents oldsmobile! Great build so far, what was your deciding factor on going from a fmic to vmic? Do you plan on getting a vented hood and setting up any ducting? Any ideas on which turbo? For my self, Im really leaning towards a 35r, similiar boost properties as the twins, ideal for my desired power range. Keep up the good work!

Haha i know right! Also that you drive someone else's dream car.

FMIC to vmic was a heat thing. Texas just sucks for heat :\ My temps weren't bad but they weren't good and I felt since I was already there I would go for it. There's a long story of making the brackets and a hella lot of walking.

Hood, yes to vented and ducted, just don't know how I'm going to do it. I was thinking of cutting the stock hood and pushing it down then building a front lip on to it sort of like the Panspeed time attack fd.

Already have the turbo mate haha! Aspec kit gt35r. It definitely is a little bit laggier then the non-seq twins and even more so than the seq twins. But when its spooled I was actually planning on going with an Apexi Rx6 since it supposedly has really good "street" power where the 35r had "track" power.

i dont know how people drive their FD's with no radio i would go insane lol if i could have a radio on my R1 i would but then again thinking about it the sound of turbo spool or a good exhaust is sometimes just enough.

I wont lie i would trade like 50 radios for A/C in the Texas summer haha But usually its just me for extended periods, most of the sound deadening is gone and the advans have a hella ton of road noise so there isn't much you could hear if the car was buttoned up. I usually just put my headphones in .___.

Remember downforce in the front needs to be matched with downforce in the back to be of any use. ie. a functional wing. What do you have planned?

Props to you for doing all the work yourself as well!

Yup I know. Plans are to buy the RE-A pro style diffuser with all the extras and maybe a gt (probably the APR gt300) wing when I have the money. I'm not really a fan of having a big wing on stock body (little too aggressive for my taste). I'm at the slow moving point now, since I'm still trying to recover from the turbo...

Not much of an update. Got off from working 17 hours straight and have to open at the store tomorrow...

Decided on the route for the hood, going to mock it up with some high density foam, make a mold, and the finish it up. just gotta cut the hood unfortunately and its going to have to be repainted :\

Idea via the Okuyama Time Attack fd:

I see, lol.

You know the black engine bay looks good, my only deal would be people thinking the red isn't original paint because of it. But like I said it looks good to me, I'm even kinda liking the neon wheels you mocked up. IMO I think the splitter would be complimented with some mild skirts. By its self I think it stands out a little, either way nice work man keep it up!!

Funny you should mention that, I was just asked that question about the paint at the last car meet I was at. Yeah the plans are to run some FEED sides or something along those lines with a rear diffuser to balance the car out because right now you're right the splitter is much lower then the rest of the car and has an awkward appearance. Appreciate the kind words. Waiting on money now

The only problem with cutting it down is, right now its covering up a radiator hose I have underneath (I didn't weld the radiator to change the flow). I think i just need to figure out a way to get it to angle it slightly higher for more clearance, then I could change it up. I kind of want to run the burnout front bumper and leave the splitter without the air dam.

Haha! only work two jobs during the summer, but somehow I manage it during the school year.
