Well some time has past since my last update. Moved cross country twice, currently live in Arizona. Went to DGRR a few times, even won best in show and magazine feature, which never got to do.







Got married and have a family with a zoo of animals.





Have another low mile FD (mildly modded).







Also start making production runs of my different tow hook designs and seat mounts.



The FD hasn't run for 3 years now after I blew the motor up at VIR. The failure was at the ignition coil sub-harness when the protective sheathing split and started to short out between the front and rear leading coils. Since then I've collected go fast parts and a new motor from IRP via Gavin Lowe.



Next few posts will be what was done prior to now.

Okay, so after a lot of fuel starving issues with the stock fuel tank I decided to modify it with a built-in internal fuel surge tank setup. The first design was okay in performance as jkstill can atest, but wasn't quite what I was after. The second design allowed me to get down to a gallon in the tank before full surge. Catch is the surge system is so good it makes the fuel level is a bit deceptive. What I think is a 1/2 a tank is actually 1/4, so will be tweaking it with a few ball valve removals and adding Holley's new fuel soak.

 

Went with a Sparco D shped racing wheel, but moddified it to retain the cruise control button (god I love cruise control), kinda bummed my new ecu setup won't support it, but then again this car will be purely a track car for the most part.







Also made some carbon ducting for the oil coolers, as well as made some protective meshing.

 

Bought a used Autoexe strut bar which was majorly tweaked, or somehow my frame is.....anyways, cut it apart and rewelded it, found a few clearance issues, namely at the ABS pump bango bolts.









Also got a 2 way Tomei LSD for cheap as well as a greddy back cover. Which I later converted to 1.5 and went witha 4.44 final drive ratio. Got super lucky with the shimming, by not requiring ant change (will see if it works out).

 

Evo X Recaro backrests modified to fit the stock bases. Amazingly modifications was minimal and just had to the reupholster the bases in the same cloth material. Small extension bracket, clearancing for the seat belt latch and shims

wow, very cool work on the seat upper/lower combination. i'm sure the stock bottom is much softer and makes the seat have a very nice feel.

 

Where did you find the ball valves? Also, why am I suddenly posting on the forums again? Haha. Can't wait to see you enjoying the car again. We're headed to 7 stock this year, you should come!

Auto-x front strut bar didn't look too bad as far as being off.

If you jack the front up by the front subframe and put a ratcheting "cargo bar" for a truck bed between the shock towers you can move them out about 3/4" pretty easily. Of you need to pull them in you can use ratchet straps.

If you need to twist the front in other directions you can get creative with the jack and using the car's own mass.

Not really useful on an FD except to fit parts, but on my FC I was able to get almost another 1/2 degree negative camber each side just pulling the strut tops in toward each other.

The cars are pretty floppy ahead of the firewall and largely for crash standards.

Mainly adding this in case others search and find this trying to install their own fixed strut brace.

I'll hit you up if I come to a road block on the Infinity setup. Hoping to have on-the-fly adjustable boost, traction control (fuel cut), and anti-lag.

The digital dash with data-acq will be arriving today and possibly will be get a 8" tablet for the center dash panel for on the fly adjustments without dealing with a bulking laptop.

 

Alright continuing on with the build

Started to have issue with getting the engine up to temp during normal city driving and found that my Mocal oil thermostat was kaput. So I when with an Improved racing unit and fabricated my own oil temp sensor -10AN fitting. After the swap the engine warmed up and maintained proper oil engine temps like a champ.

Thats interesting. What are your temps now? I have the Mocal unit as well and have issue with temps staying warm enough while moving. Ive read this is normal tho being bypass units. I dont like it being as low as it is of course. Ive also seen guys just put cardboard in front of one cooler in the colder months.

 

Temperature range in normal driving is now 165 - 210F with the Improved unit, with the size of oil coolers I have it's doing a really good job keeping the motor at/near optimal temp.

 

Last year I finished the racing seat mount design and had a production run made, took awhile to sell them, but most of them are finally sold. Just the forward seating positions left now.

Also made the very last engine mounted oil catch tank as well, last one is for me since I sold my original one who needed one asap.

And onto the new stuff, lots of goodies, expensive goodies.

AEM Infinity ECU, CD-7 Digital dash with datalogger, complete new fuel system, all new sensors, GTX3576R turbo with v-band divided turbine housing, MSC double adjsutable shocks (5:1 on cost compared to Tein), new brake rotors, list goes on.

Fabricated a new header and downpipe system to accommodate the new turbo. As well as built in a way to place to wastegate where I wanted it and have front and rear exhaust ports completely divided all the way to wastegate.

Also fabricating stainless line throughout to address the heat deterioration I experienced with all my coolant and oil feed/drain line, some scary levels of deterioration.

Damn, New parts are Sweet!!! That Dash looks Killer!

 

Installed and modified the new 1000CC ID injector setup (all around), with new fuel rails and fuel pressure regulator. Reduced the step height so the ID fit without adaptors as well as shaved the sides of the spacer to allow for the EV14 electrical plugs.And fabricated a new fuel pressure regulator mounting bracket as well as new lines. Will be going stainless line tot eh fuel tank and integrate a Ethanol content sensor on the return line.
