Thank you. It's definitely not perfect, there are probably 3-4 small spots that bug me but they should be hidden when the parts are back in. The engine bay is a good spot to learn, lots of hiding spots haha.

I'll be working on the car as much as possible this weekend. Expect some not too exciting updates soon!

Currently in the process of figuring out where my engine is...

After much searching and many minutes on the phone, I figured out where my engine is. I'll be going to pick it up in a few hours.

I've been slowly cleaning and painting engine bay parts, brackets, and bolts trying to figure out where everything goes. I took a bunch of pictures that seem to have disappeared. I also spent a lot of time cleaning the body harness, which nobody will ever see but it makes me feel good. It looks almost brand new.

Speaking of things nobody will ever see, I had to re paint a couple sections of the bay. I must have been high on fumes because I missed behind both shock towers with the clear coat and there wasn't much paint on those sections either which ended up making it feel rough. Everything is minty now.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what brand to use for the rubber coating in the wheel wells?

PS Did the rx7club app disappear for anyone else or is it just me?

some crappy pics, my apologies

Lizard skin.

Also, my phone app keeps having "parse errors" so I barely am able to see threads.

3M or Rust-Oleum Undercoating for the wheel wells.

My 7Club app quit working too, it totally sucks! Also, it's removed from the Play Store for Android so I can't get it back now either.

mini update:
Just got back from working in ND for a few weeks. I was expecting a bunch of packages, but there was only one. So lets open it up...

Oh, it's a "polished" throttle body

What the hell? I didn't realize this was a DIY kind of deal.

I even get the honor of cleaning out the mass of metal shavings still inside of it and straightening the bent throttle cable loop.

Needless to say, I'm extremely disappointed. This is the first item I've purchased from a forum member that I'm not happy with.

I'm hoping there will be more positive updates by the weekend. Maybe after I learn to polish and finish up this throttle body.

Wow, that throttle body is pretty bad. It's like a partially polished project thing I guess, you'll learn a lot about polishing to say the least!

You'll learn a lot about your new projects while you're at it too

Time for a legitimate update. I've been super busy and haven't had much time with the FD. I did manage to get the front subframe back in, wheel wells re rubberized, and fenders/fender liners put on. It doesn't feel like much, but it's the first time the car has rolled on the ground in 6 months or so.

I need about 6 or 7 of those circular black push clip things that hold the fender liner on if anyone has any extras.
I didn't do new bushings on the front suspension yet because everything still looks good and worked great last time it was used...and I'm trying to hurry things along now that it is driving season.
Just a couple other things that aren't real progress, but will come into play later...
New Oem throttle cable

Got my new tablet that will be installed in the double din opening for stealth gauge action

I also picked up a new project this weekend that will be sure to detract from the FD budget. Traded my beater civic for an 83 GSL with a clean body and totally rusted chassis. It still runs and drives like a champ. Need to give a HUGE thanks to Austin (DreamInRotary) for the pro FB tips (wonder steer?) and new used muffler + gas filler tube. Not to mention finding me a killer deal on a super clean rust free 85 GSL chassis!
Receiving love at Austin's FB emporium

Hello Mr. Clean

And that's that...maybe FD can learn a thing or two from grandpa FB

Here we go boys, another round of terribly written and thought out updates!

I was planning on getting my new used ACT street/strip clutch, pressure plate, lightweight flywheel, and jdm trans installed along with the engine but realized I was missing the pilot bearing seal and of course no auto parts store in the state has one...So I kept myself busy with other things.

I dropped the motor in so I can get the vmount setup all situated where I want so I can make the brackets.
What do you guys think? Should I just get the uim and lim polished instead of blacking them out?

This is where I mounted this relay box. I ended up cutting off the vertical black plastic things and keeping the piece that the relay box is bolted to. The other end of the box is bolted to the old radiator rubber mount.

Sizing things up with professional cardboard brackets

My bracketry...there is also a rubber strip where the radiator and intercooler meet.

Almost finished product...just need to paint my brackets and make the ducting

I figured out the mounting for the 8" tablet in dash, just need to get the stereo odds and ends and ecu/wideband to fully hook it up.

There you have it...I'll be back in a month or so with more

I finally got everything together that I needed to install the JDM 5 spd that I got from Nick. I was waiting on a new pilot bearing seal, new release bearing, and my new 2 1/8" socket. ACT street strip clutch, heavy duty pressure plate, and lightweight flywheel are installed...but not without some drama!

Who can see the problem here?

The shaft that the release bearing rides on is broken. Luckily I still had my US spec tranny laying around for donor parts. (Why you selling shady parts Nick?? :p)

Tight fit all the way around. Car is too low for the crane to get all the way under, crane is too tall to fit in the garage door...blah blah blah. You can see I started installing my new stainless allen bolts and nuts on the water pump housing. I have replacement nuts and bolts for the whole engine, I think they look pretty killer on the black

Too close for comfort on the new pain job

In other news, I think I've reached the point in this build where the car will no longer be the classified ****. Most everything from now on will be new parts rather than used. I refuse to put any used parts on the new motor that have anything to do with coolant or oil passing through them. I put down a deposit for the Turblown iwg efr 8374 kit w/new cast manifold so things will be kind of slow until that shows up.

More progress coming in the next day or two. Depending how lazy I get, I'm hoping to install: redone engine harness, charge harness + battery relocation, new black carpet, vmount back in, vmount ducting, and the rest of the stainless hardware + paint uim and lim since I'm done taking the engine out.

You have that crane setup all wrong! Just use a bolt through one of the chain links on the back eyelet and then use use a bolt where the A/C bracket mounts on the front iron and it will work WAY easier. Also you can pull about 3/4 of that excessive chain out of the entire mess.

Good luck!

Well damn it, where were you yesterday? All is good though, I got it in solo with no major scratches I just neglected the "final install" shot.
P.S I've been keeping an eye on your thread...is there a reason you're not considering an Adaptronic ecu? I'm just asking because I'll be ecu shopping in a few months and I've heard different things about adaptronic...but it just seems like a no brainer with a competent tuner (Elliot) fairly nearby.

I'm heading back out to the garage right now, hoping to put up some more rotary **** by the end of the night.

My car came with AEM so I was going to keep running with AEM. I didnt have a reason really other than that. My tuner seems to do a great job with AEM and he really likes Infinity.

I wasn't sure if I would like it or not, but once I saw it in person I was sold. The thing I'm concerned about is, it's only rated to 350 degrees. The lim is going to get cooked by the turbo. I'm thinking about spraying some VHT satin header clear coat over the wrinkle. The clear coat is good up to 1300-2500 degrees, I'm not sure if it will work, but there is only one way to find out right?

You would think that could help, but with all things paint, your top coat is only as good as whats under it. So I have a feeling the powder will just let go pealing the VHT paint with it. But at this point its worth a shot!Or wrap your manifold/down pipe and get a turbo blanket. I have all that on my car and it doesnt have the powder coat yet.
